YouTube’s StreetSpeed717 is the proud owner of a C7 Corvette ZR1 with a highly modified 6.2-liter LT5 V8 built by Late Model Racecraft. His Corvette ZR1 is good for around 1,000 horsepower at the crank and he has so far gone undefeated in the various unofficial roll races he has participated in with the car. So when the owner of a 1,200-horsepower 2020 Mustang GT500 recently challenged him to a roll race, he was a bit nervous that this record-setting pony car was going to the be one to break his winning streak.
Despite being down on power to the Mustang, StreetSpeed717’s C7 Corvette ZR1 definitely has the right hardware to hang with this nitrous-fed GT500. The Corvette gaps the Mustang in every race where it’s not on nitrous and when the owner does turn the bottle on, the finish is pretty much too close to call. We know the Corvette is lighter than the Mustang, but we really thought it would have had this race in the bag given its massive power advantage.
It’s worth pointing out that this C7 Corvette ZR1 appears to be equipped with the ZTK Performance Package, which adds a rear wing and front splitter that increases drag on the car and can slow it down in a straight line. It may be even faster in the top end of the race if it was running the base-spec aerodynamics package with the low rear wing. Also hampering the Vette is the transmission, which slips badly in fifth gear. This is an 850-wheel-horsepower car on a stock transmission, though, so perhaps it’s not surprising that the eight-speed automatic has seen better days.

It’s funnie how to different people write to totally different story’s it’s like watching FOX Mews then flip over to MSNBC. Bottom line both cars have Mods and on Nitrous, the Corvette is 500lbs lighter, no back seat, 6.2. The GT500 with a back seat 500lbs more 1.0 less 5.2, Take Your Pick
The Corvette is NOT A MUSCLE CAR!!!!!!!!
Bad enough that Streetspeed717 is once again Street racing on open roads in the middle of the day. Worse that you are promoting and condoning his reckless behaviour.
…with their respective License Plates in full view.
Shut up Karen
Too close to call? The vette was pulling back with the GT500 on bottle, like very clearly coming back before he had to lift because of the 5th gear issue.
How close?? The vette was CLEARLY faster when the Mustang was WITH OR WITHOUT nitrous!!
Pretty easy to see that in the video…. Mustang was only in front while being quicker on the
GO signal.. Vette immediately began pulling (reeling in) the ‘stang….!
I think the Corvette showed the Stang a thing or 2. You guys have a pack of badass rides. Including the Rapture !!!
Too bad the Ford decided to make the 2020 Gt500s only automatic… takes all the fun out of the drive.
Dumb asses have always compared a mustang versus a vette duh get that damn camaro out in that garage which is what the mustang is to be compared to and that pony will bust its ass.
Ohh cause that’s far, a shelby mustang vs a stock camaro. How about the lpe1000 Camaro vs the shelby mustang. That’s fair.
