Refreshed 2021 Buick Regal Launches In China

Almost a year after being leaked in the local media, and after the debut of the GS variant in the Asian country last April, the refreshed standard version of the 2021 Buick Regal has been launched in China. General Motors has just revealed all the details and official images of the updated Buick midsize sedan for the Chinese market – the only one where it is marketed today – with starting sales immediately.

Notably, none of the refreshed 2021 Buick Regal variants will make it to the North American market – where GM discontinued the nameplate as the Tri-Shield brand is moving toward a crossover-only lineup. Unlike in the United States, the Buick Regal pursues its career in China because it is manufactured locally and demand for sedans remains significant in that particular market.

As such, the updated 2021 Buick Regal goes on sale in the Chinese market with four versions and two trim levels – Elite and Luxury. The main changes are concentrated on its new, more dynamic and fluid front-end design as well as an updated powertrain configuration and state-of-the-art technological equipment.

2.0L LSY I4 engine

The refreshed Buick Regal maintains two powertrain options. The base engine is the same turbocharged 1.5L LFV I-4 rated at 166 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.0L LSY I-4 engine that makes 233 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque serves as the range-topping option. Both are mated to GM’s 9-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Precision Shift technology.

For its part, the interior design of the refreshed 2021 Buick Regal boasts a new multifunction steering wheel, a reshaped center console with the same button gear selection mechanism found in the Chinese-market Enclave and the all-new Envision, as well as new color combinations. In addition, Buick’s latest infotainment system now supports wireless mobile projection, while an OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is also included.

The refreshed 2021 Buick Regal is now on sale in China in that country’s exclusive notchback sedan configuration only. The standard version of the Regal offers a lot of standard features to strengthen Buick’s wide range of sedans in the Asian country, which covers all the main segments with the Excelle (B+), Excelle GT (C), Verano (C+), Regal (D) and LaCrosse (E). The suggested prices of the four versions are:

  • 2021 Regal Elite 1.5T: 188,800 CNY (about $27,625 USD at the current exchange rate)
  • 2021 Regal Luxury 1.5T: 196,800 CNY ($28,795 USD)
  • 2021 Regal Elite 2.0T: 206,800 CNY ($30,260 USD)
  • 2021 Regal Luxury 2.0T: 216,800 CNY ($31,720 USD)

  1. Hey Ruess and Barra you really know how to piss off buyers of sedans showing us what we could not have . sedans although have softened there is still a market for them . ask MB – BMW- Honda _ Toyota – Nissan _ .

    1. I agree with you. I would love to purchase a new sport back. I need to haul stuff and the hatchback works great instead of an SUV. The dealers never promoted this car, GM never advertised it and it was left to die in the US. Of course if you want a used regal, the dealers have the prices inflated because of lack of stock. Come on GM… do you want to drive me right to the Asian or Germans? I’ve purchased GM products for the past 30 years….

      1. So go buy one. I’m sure they’re are still some wasting away on the lots.

They haven’t gotten the formula right with the regal since the 1997.5 model. Which coincidentally had more hp and two than this turd.

  2. Mr. Ruess and Mrs. Barra are NOT showing you what you can’t have. This website is. GMAUTHORITY is not affiliated with GM.

Maybe you knew that and just wanted to post something derogatory?

How many Buick Regals have you bought?

    1. That’s true. GM never marketed the regal. How is the public to know about it!

  4. Buicks are my choice of vehicle. I never was crazy about the Regal design (though I could see the family resemblance with the LaCrosse), and I’m even less-enamored with this latest refresh.

  5. The refreshed 2021 Buick Regal launch for China sort of demonstrates the advantages of having a population size of over 1.4 Billion as there may be someone who wants to buy a car that most people may not.

  6. Another slap in the face from GM! Marketshare will continue to shrink with this poorly run company!

  7. Wish I had that push button system in my Regal with space for two cupholders.

  8. Love my 2019 Regal TourX! that said, a 2021 design sportback with the new LSY motor (better mpg and regular gas) along with the console revisions (Button shifter) would be cool also! Too bad GM is piss poor at option packaging and pricing! The 18-20 Regal could have sold so much more.
