One of the major changes that General Motors applied to the C8 Corvette Stingray for the 2021 model year was the addition of two new colors to the vehicle’s color palette: Silver Flate Metallic and Red Mist Tintcoat.
Red Mist Tintcoat gained some notoriety earlier this year when Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter called it one of the most exciting colors Chevrolet has offered on the sports car in its history, saying that it “looks like it is glowing from the inside.” Juechter liked the color so much, in fact, that he ordered his own personal 2021 Corvette Stingray in the new color.
It’s been hard to track down a good photo of a 2021 Corvette painted in Red Mist Tintcoat in recent weeks and months, but the National Corvette Museum pulled through this week, uploading an entire gallery of well-lit, high-resolution photos of a Red Mist painted C8 coupe.
The NCM says this particular car is an early build of the 2021 Corvette Stingray and that if residents of Bowling Green, Kentucky are lucky, they may see GM employees piloting it around town. This particular car also appears to be equipped with the optional five-spoke Carbon Flash painted wheels and the Z51 performance package.
Red Mist Tintcoat replaces Long Beach Red Metallic on the Corvette color palette for 2021. By comparison, Red Mist Tintcoat is a brighter and more vibrant shade of red/burgundy, whereas Long Beach Red appeared darker and less radiant. Similarly, Silver Flare Metallic replaces Blade Silver Metallic and is a shinier and more exciting color to look at than the shade it replaces.
Production of the 2021 Corvette Stingray is slated to begin in November, but with GM still working to try and wrap-up production of the 2020 Corvette and Corvette Convertible, which was severely hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCM says the start date is still a moving target.
In addition to the two new exterior colors, the 2021 Corvette will also introduce a new Stingray R graphics package, new interior colors and new paint color and stripe options, among other small changes/updates.

My first choice was long beach red, but I like this red mist so that’s what color I ordered and can’t wait to get it. Hopefully they stay on track with production.
My first choice was Torch Red …them came the new 21′ Red Tint Mist and that’s what I have on order for my new convertible and I can’t wait !
I am very ambivalent about this color. I would like to see it in the bright sunshine. All of the pictures I have seen of this color have been on cloudy days. I am hoping it will pop more in daylight. I have one on order of this color. I picked it on the samples in the configurator and the price and build applications. Looks nothing like those colors. Might look great in person. I will say the car itself looks better in person than in any picture.
Looking forward to reading more. Great blog. Thanks Again. Really Cool. Clifford Fish
Looks like a candy apple red with some additional metallic added to the paint. I have one on order.
JD here
I Ordered my C-8 back in August. Well I struggled between the Shadow Grey and then boom, they added the Red Mist. Weeks ago I had seen the (SOLD) Shadow Grey at the dealership and a couple weeks ago I saw the Red Mist (SOLD) at the dealership. I decided on the red mist but only saw it in the show room with some daylight on the front of it.
Guess one will never know until we see it in FULL daylight ……..sun or NO sun but prefer sun. Some say it has shades of the old Crystal Red.
OK folks Here is a JD Tip of all tips, I was told the 2021 Camaro has the same color as the Red Mist but it’s called “WILD CHERRY”. I then headed an hour up the road to a dealer that had one in stock. It was after a rain and the car was not very clean, hard to picture it in a C-8 when your looking at a Camaro. I think I will like it so call a dealer near you and see if they have or will get the 21 Camaro in Wild Cherry.
Good hunting and hope this helps you all. Lets hope they start building C8s again, we may be looking at Christmas at this rate.
