Chevy Spark Sales Grew 30 Percent In August 2020

Chevy Spark sales grew 30 percent year over year in August in the United States.

According to documents seen by GM Authority, sales of the subcompact hatchback city car rose by 30 percent last month. Given General Motors no longer breaks out sales numbers on a month-to-month basis, the actual sales volume unit was not shown. However, we can still calculate a rough estimate given information gathered gathered thus far.

During the third quarter of 2019 (July, August and September),  Chevy spark sales totaled 6,616 units. From here, we can calculate the per-month average, which comes to around 2,205 units per month. Based on this figure, we can deduce that the General Motors sold roughly 2,866 units of the Chevrolet Spark last month, given a 30-percent increase over the 2,205 unit-per-month average.

While this is not an exact or official figure, it is still a worthwhile datapoint to consider.

Chevrolet Spark Sales - Q3 2019 - United States

In the United States, Chevrolet Spark deliveries totaled 6,616 units in Q3 2019, a decrease of about 6 percent compared to 7,029 units sold in Q3 2018.

In the first nine months of the year, Spark sales increased about 10 percent to 20,265 units.

Chevy Spark sales numbers reached 31,281 units last year, rising considerably after a performance of 23,602 units sold in 2018, and 22,589 units sold in 2017. Chevy Spark sales peaked in 2014 with 39,159 units sold.

Meanwhile, Chevy Spark sales in Canada peaked last year, with 7,582 units sold, rising from 4,937 units in 2018, and 3,982 units in 2017.

The Chevrolet Spark did not initially receive any significant changes or updates for the 2020 model year or 2021 model year, with a refresh (otherwise known as a mid-cycle enhancement, MCE, or facelift) performed for the 2019 model year. However, a new Special Edition model with various exterior enhancements for the LT trim level was released after the latest refresh for the 2019 model year.

Customers are offered the LS, the LT, and the Activ with regard to the trim level cadence, with the Activ equipped with a unique front and rear fascia, off-road skid plates, unique wheels, and a taller ride height.

  1. Yup, that pic of the white 1LT in special edition trim is the exact car I just picked up 3 months ago. This little car is winning me over more than I thought it would. And for the price I paid, there’s no way I could go wrong. I’m just kind of shocked that the sales numbers are as low as they are.

For anyone looking for a cheaper but high quality (for the price range) city/work/commuter car, this is hands down the way to go.

  2. I bought one in August as a second vehicle to buzz around town and flat tow behind the motorhome. 14K CDN all in for an LT 5 Speed was awesome and it feels far more substantial than it is!

  3. Been thinking about buying one for the wife who commutes 20 miles one way to work on a very busy I-35 between Austin/San Antonio. The car seems like its fairly safe and zippy but I worry about the power issue staying with traffic on that crazy highway. With her coming home at midnite, dependability is #1 concern. The price is cheap enough to pay cash and that is a big plus.

    1. Don’t worry Mike. This car will stay up with San Antonio traffic with ease. I’ve rented one and was pretty damn impressed with it. I’d love to buy a one or two year old Activ model but I just can’t logically justify it right now.

    2. @Miike Hartman: Don’t worry about that, just like David said. My car certainly feels much more peppy than the HP rating would lead me to believe. I live in the LA (California) area and driving in traffic out here means you could either walk faster or you get run over if not doing 80 mph! My little Spark works great in either one. The only thing I would say is that you obviously don’t have the passing power when going anything over 40 mph. So if traffic is moving at 50, 60, 70 or above, don’t plan on kicking it down and flying past them! Otherwise I can fly along at 80 with zero problem and the car is surprisingly stable on the highway.

  6. News likes this saddens me that GM is discontinuing the Sonic and gave up on the Cruze. I can understand the flux the industry is in, but it felt shortsighted to leave entire segments like that so abruptly especially with looming economic uncertainty.

Like the Spark looks like a nice car, but I opted for a 1.4T Sonic for that little extra zip on the Highway and that bit extra storage space.
