Chevrolet Silverado Rival To Ram Rebel TRX, Ford F-150 Raptor Rendered

With the recent debut of the Ram Rebel TRX and rumors abound that Ford is working on a supercharged V8-powered Ford F-150 Raptor of its own, there’s no doubt that one of the most highly anticipated products in GM’s pipeline is the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado ZRX. The performance pickup is rumored to feature the automaker’s supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 engine, beefed-up suspension and other goodies intended to attract off-road enthusiasts and outgun its rivals at FCA and Ford.
The arrival of the Chevrolet Silverado ZRX is still quite far away, unfortunately, so for now, we have to rely on amateur rendering artists if we want an idea of how this exciting new truck will look. Rendering artists Oscar V recently tried his hand at designing a Chevrolet Silverado-based rival to the Ram Rebel TRX and F-150 Raptor – though instead of using the ZRX branding, he went with his own made-up ‘Meteor’ name.
While the branding is a bit off, the idea is the same. Like the Ram Rebel TRX or the upcoming Silverdo ZRX, this fictional truck features raised suspension, large knobby off-road tires, bead lock wheels and a redesigned lower front fascia with an integrated skid plate for additional ground clearance. This truck also features a redesigned front grille and a scooped hood that look as though they were designed to feed more cool air into the engine bay to cool the LT4 V8. Completing this package is a rear sport bar, side steps and a roof-mounted light bar.
While the Chevrolet Silverado ZRX will probably look quite a bit different than this rendering, it still gives us a good idea of what this latest generation of Chevrolet Silverado looks like when given the off-road treatment. The real Chevrolet Silverado ZRX will likely arrive as a 2022 model year vehicle so be sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more Chevrolet Silverado ZRX news, Chevrolet Silverado news, Chevrolet news and around-the-clock GM news coverage.
That still wont be enough. Both the raptor and trx have supercharged engines with over 700hp. If chevy wants to compete they need to go all out. Drop the lt5 in there, taper the front and rear bumpers for better approach angles, transfer the air suspension from the tahoe in there and offer deflatable tires and a winch as extra options.
If GM really wants to go all the way out, then resize the chassis of a 2500 HD to fit a 1500 and build the zrx off of that so the tow rating will be a healthy 15k or so.
The Raptor only has a 450hp twin turbo V6.
Ford already announced the GT500 engine will be dropped into the Raptor, possibly as an upgrade option.
This front end looks worlds better than what Chevrolet has today still need to clean up the lower corner bumper area. Chevy supercharged 6.2 hasn’t out gun Ford or Dodge models in the past when it came to horsepower so let’s see how this play out if the truck ever see the light of day. Biggest problem is Chevrolet needs to STOP following FORD and Dodge and get back to moving to the Beat of its own drum
Didn’t make a choice. The render is nice, but more is needed.
When is GM going to stop being re-active and get back to being proactive?
So tired of seeing what if’s, could be’s, we should’s etc….
Coulda – Shoulda – Woulda
John, I agree completely. GM used to be a front runner. No more. GM. Now they play catch up. If this were a race, they would have to use up the tires and use more fuel to get back to the front. This means they have to spend even more $ to even get close to the competion. Then the final pricing, will be out of site for most average Joes. GM has to get back to doing what they did in the 60’s. In the height of the muscle car wars. I know thats along time ago, but we need them to be a better competitor. A 1500 built up to a 3500 style frame and a much stronger front suspension. Including tie rods half shafts and ball joints. Ideally, it would blow the compition away, if it would be available with a Dana 60 solid axle and a Dana 70 rear axle. Fox coil overs both front and rear. Just do it right!!
Unfortunately not in my lifetime and perhaps never again.
Is the branding off though? A meteor did take out the dinosaurs 🦕 after all. Having moved myself from years of gmc/chev to dodge, they will need to make substantial changes to sway me back. While I enjoy the exterior body styling, box bars with lighting is 80s, instead gm should get crafty with led placement and take a page from baja truck styling. The interior is what needs major overhaul in my opinion.
I learned how to drive in my Dad’s ’68 Firebird 400 (a blast). But, “My” first car was a “get to college” Chevy Vega, surprisingly, also a blast. In ’83, I enjoyed the hell out of a champagne beige 280 Z. Then I was introduced to trout fishing the Eastern Sierra so I jumped into an ’89 V6 Nissan Pathfinder 4×4 of the year… When the fishing turned into an annual re-union of our 35-40 guys plus trip (The Crowley Posse), I graduated to my first 4×4 Suburban and I was hooked. In 2004, I got my next 4×4 Suburban, a Z71. I loved her, no doubt. But, year after year my buddies would come to fish in Tundras, Ford150s, Dodge Rams… Their different creature comforts and techy stuff left me wanting… and still waiting for my Chevy folks to catch-up? In the next year or two intended to buy a Zr2 Bison, Turbo diesel, but I’ve seen many views of the interior and I can’t help but begin to feel this creature’s “discomfort”… So, before I decide on my next purchase I’m gonna look for the maker of the full-size truck that has front seats that completely recline. At my age I need a rest stop on the long drives and I just can’t get much rest folded in half… Come on Chevy! I’m trying to be faithful, but your pushing me away…
A competitor to the TRX and Raptor make a lot of sense, but what about a successor to the SS pickup? The Tahoe has the RST. Ford had the Lightning. A new Typhoon and Syclone would be sick. They should also fire all the people who were responsible for the new Cadillac offerings having nothing to go against AMG, M, & RS offerings. I don’t understand what GM is doing with their lineup.
Elon you better get with the times. Ford already announced the 750hp supercharged V8 going in the Raptor in the next iteration. Know what you’re talking about before mouthing off.
Looking at the pics, it sits to low and the tires are not 35″ and no pics of the under carriage so we don’t know what the foundation of the Meteor will be… Someone talked about the fenders, GM needs to shave them to accommodate the bigger – wider tires turn radius and approach. as for the heart of the truck, don’t laugh… the stats on the Blackwing v8 turbo would be a good fit. I know the HP isn’t near the Ford or Ram, but they can’t beat the torque. In a truck, the weight and towing have to be considered and so more torque is required IMO. Torque for hauling and mountain grades and especially for off-roading or even rescue… I don’t see straight line drag racing but I do see off-road, hill climbing, towing, and towing in the mountains, and lastly, hunting and fishing off the grid. I thought about the 6.2 SC, but GM would need to increase the cam, TB, add a different pulley, add a tune, offer better push rods, valve springs, and rockers, basically better heads to enable another 110 HP to match the other 2 competitors. If they didn’t do it the Camaro ZL1, which gets spanked, until these are added, then it spanks the others, no way the truck is going to get it, so why not the Blackwing power plant and set a new turbo trend. This turbo can easily be upgraded and generate more HP/TQ with a few modifications for the DIY’er need for speed owner…
One thing I have actually noticed is the fact there are plenty of common myths regarding the lenders intentions any time talking about foreclosure. One delusion in particular would be the fact the bank desires your house. The lender wants your hard earned money, not the home. They want the bucks they lent you along with interest. Steering clear of the bank will only draw a foreclosed final result. Thanks for your article.
