Some lucky Michigan car enthusiasts were treated to a surprise when two General Motors employees arrived at their car meet in a pair of Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing pre-production prototypes.
The two Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing prototypes proudly rolled up to the meet at High Octane Cafe & Bakery at Bloomfield Township, Michigan, revving their supercharged V8 engines and showing off their camouflaged-clad bodywork. An Instagram user going by the username @diyauto captured the powerful performance sedans on video as they arrived at the meet and also filmed them accelerating down the adjacent Telegraph Road when they left. As the sedans fly by the camera, the unmistakable whine of a supercharger can be heard emanating from under the hood.

The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing will be a more hardcore, performance-focused version of the regular CT5-V. The sedan is expected to feature a supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 engine. This same supercharged V8 was also found in the previous-generation Cadillac CTS-V, where it produced 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque. It’s worth pointing out that the sedan will not feature the twin-turbocharged 4.2L Blackwing/LTA V8 engine that was offered in the Cadillac CT6 Platinum and CT6-V, despite the fact that it will receive the ‘Blackwing’ moniker.
A six-speed manual transmission will be standard on the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, while GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission will be offered as an option. More aggressive exterior styling, model-specific alloy wheels, lower and stiffer suspension and more powerful brakes will also be in store for the CT5-V Blackwing. Some small cabin changes will be applied, too, such as a sport steering wheel, bolstered sport seats, additional carbon-fiber trim and more.
The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, along with the smaller Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing, will go on sale in the summer of 2021.

When the hell are they going to just reveal the thing already?? We;ve been waiting for this for the better part of 2 years, we already know so much about the hardware, just release it! I want it to start killing the Germans before GM pulls the plug on the entire CT5 lineup – must be my PTSD-CT6V talking there.
I think you’ll have an encore performance of the CT6 V saga. DOA.
Just think, if GM had kept Pontiac, you’d be looking at the 3rd gen G8 cruising the car meets instead of an over priced Cadillac! I know the thought gives me a headache, and my ulcer burns like crazy too!
@JAWS4,
So true, man. God, I wonder how long the G8 would have lasted. We would have gotten a second gen instead of the Chevy SS, but would GM have moved it over to Alpha for a third gen? Seeing what they did to the Impala, Lacrosse, CT6, XTS, CTS, ATS, etc., probably not. But I do know this, the second gen G8 would have had to have the LT4 in some capacity…and that would have been amazing for Pontiac.
May the brand forever rest in peace!
Summer of 2021 could be about 12 months. Guess we have a ways to go.
They sound pretty menacing, though…
Nice to see some news of this vehicle! It is exciting! Like G8Burnout posted, they need to release these as soon as possible! No need in waiting any longer. When BMW releases a new model. M models come out the next year usually. These days the competition models launch very early too. So GM needs to continue with improving and stay with the long game for Cadillac. The bean counters be damned.
But damn! I hate the Instagram embedded videos. As once one watches it once, the site forces us to watch it again on that site. Some of us Men do not have nor use Instagram.
