Following several delays, including the 2019 UAW strike and a shutdown of North American production operations resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, General Motors is finally churning out high volume of the latest Chevrolet Corvette C8 at the automaker’s production facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The 2020 Corvette is the current model rolling off the line, but now, GM Authority has learned the date for the Start of Regular Production (SORP) for the 2021 Corvette.
According to sources familiar with production plans at the GM Bowling Green plant, the SORP for the 2021 Corvette will be November 16th. The GM Bowling Green plant has been the exclusive producer of the Chevrolet Corvette since 1981.
As of this writing, November 16th is the most up-to-date timeframe for the SORP for the 2021 Corvette. That said, it’s entirely possible that date may change between now and November.
The 2021 Corvette is the second model year of the latest eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette, otherwise known as the C8. The 2021 Corvette brings several small updates and changes to the nameplate, including the addition of two new exterior paint options, namely Red Mist Tintcoat and Silver Flare Metallic, as well as the deletion of Long Beach Red Metallic Tintcoat and Blade Silver Metallic from the C8 exterior paint options list.
The latest 2021 Corvette will also offer new exterior racing stripe options and a new interior color combo, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As we’ve covered previously, General Motors is currently working to fulfill a long backlog of orders for the latest Chevrolet Corvette. However, due to the production delays incurred this year and in 2019, some of the orders for the 2020 model year have been pushed back to the 2021 model year. Additionally, some of the options are now more expensive with the 2021 Corvette, including the Z51 Performance Package, Front Lift Suspension, and 5-Trident Spoke Black-Painted Aluminum wheels, which means those customers who have had their orders pushed back will pay more for those specific options compared to pricing for 2020-model-year vehicles.

November 16?
Yes, Excited !!!!! Order placed 8-13-2020 for a C-8 2021 HTC, Torch Red, Adrenaline Red, Front Lift, Performance Exhaust, Bright Red-Calipers, Body-Color Ext. Accents, Gray-Painted Wheels, Torch Red Seats Belts, Mag Ride.
I hope by June of 2021
I ordered the 2021 C8 coupe Z51, front lift in Red mist and museum delivery 6/30/2020. I’m hoping to get it before the end May.
I think that is unlikely given all the 2020 orders that were cancelled by GM and allowed to priority order 2021’s. I am one of those people who ordered a 2020 in July of 2019-got bumped due to UAW strike and COVID and was put at the front of the line for a 2021. Dealers have NO idea what is doing on, as GM totally blew this rollout starting almost 6 months later than usual producing the first C8’s. Nobody knows what the FLU/COVID fall season will bring-but I would bet that Bowling Green will be shut down again, and if that happens-who knows when anybody will ever get their car.
I agree, I got bumped on the 2020 as well I was told I was 4 in line…still waiting.
I was bumped from 2020 also getting the 1st 2021 at my dealer. Red Mist, Convertible, LT3 Z51 High wing with the ground effects, black top, lift, mag ride.
Ordered my c8 2020 Long Beach red lt1 first week of October 2019 . Luckily I was very calm about the problems GM had with the pandemic. Never owned a corvette before but glad I waited. Received my car on September 24 2020. Best handling auto I’ve ever owned. Great Sales Manager to deal with. Very Happy with the CAR. 👍👍
I placed my C8 order on 10-9-2019 (yes…one year ago). Due to the strike and Covid-19, my order never advanced beyond the 1100 factory status level and now I’ve been pushed out to the 2021 model. My dealership expects my car to arrive in June-July. My first Corvette was a red/white ’58 and I’ve waited 50 years for the mid engine to arrive. I’ve learned to be patient. Hope you don’t have to wait as long as I have.
Hi Lawrence, is it June-July of this year, or next year?

Dan, his post was on Oct.6, 2020 so I think he means 2021. I sure hope he gets his before then because I ordered after him!
Not happy paying more for a C8 I already ordered. I have been pushed back to 2021 C8 coupe, silver flare metallic, adrenaline red seats, 2 LT, Z51, GT2 seats, front lift, edge red calipers, edge red engine cover, engine appearance package, ext side composite rockers, carbon flash painted mirrors and rear spoiler and gray trident spoke wheels. Would be a miracle to receive it by Christmas.
when did you order the 2020 c8?
Oct 1,2019
I ordered August 18, 2019 and was push back to a 21. Number 6 out of 13 and the first 5 were picked up before this Fakedemic hit.
The only good news is i’m first at my dealership for a 21. And at this pint i would rather get a 21 in early 21 than a 20 in November.
My order also turned in my C6 for trade in.
I’m not happy about being moved to the 2021 Corvette. But when the factory lost work weeks over the strike and then again over the virus ,there are just unseen circumstances that cannot be planed for. I’m sure that GM would rather have been making C-8s, than having the plant shut down for those weeks. I’m just excited that I’ll be getting a C-8. and really glad when it’s in my garage.
I ordered C8 early January 2020 and have had to replace that order with 2021 model order. Not happy about delays and price increases but candidly I would probably just be getting my original order about now so it would be sitting in the garage mostly due to COVID restrictions on activities. I am happy about the new colors offered and I changed my color from Torch Red to Red Mist Metallic. I am now looking forward to delivery probably in the late Spring 2021 timeframe.
We’ve ordered our 2021 C8 in Red Mist Tintcoat, Z51, Edge Red Brakes, Two-tone Adrenaline Red/Black interior. Don’t like the time delay but may be able to get a Grand Sport or Z06?
Seriously wish GM would get off their ass and update the C8 Build to Order online to the 2021 stuff since they are done with taking 2020 orders anyway. Very annoying.
GM said that they would produce 20,181 2020 C8’s before they would start the 2021 model. Now they think that they will achieve this goal by November 16th.
As of September 8, 2020 they have to produce 10,762 cars. I don’t know how they will be able to produce this many cars in the 49 production days between 9/8 and 11/16. That’s 220 cars a production day, an impossible number to achieve.
Why would GM put out a 2021 production date they they cannot achieve unless the promised un-built 2020’s will be built as 2021’s. Only time will tell the end to this story.
GM to produce 2020 and 2021 at the same time Starting 11-16, and will continue with 2020’s until all 20181 have been built.
I put down a deposit on a 2020 HTC torch red, 2LT, Z51 GT2 two-tone seats, front lift and carbon flash wheels in December. I plan to do museum delivery depending on date. I live in northern Indiana. I too am not pleased with the price increase when I made a deposit 9 months ago!
I think GM has ruined the corvette experience for everyone this year. Was planning on museum delivery but thanks to gm for changing my build date from September 21 to November 2nd now there’s no way I can do museum delivery now living in Minnesota. how many more experiences are you going to ruin for people? All gm did was tie up a bunch of orders and screwed people over on this car. And now there going to start MY21 November 16th this is not right getting a car that’s a year old before you get it.
I ,m done with buying Corvettes. In good faith I put cash deposit on 2020 2LT long beach red.The dealer said it will not be built as 2020.Only reason I purchased was it was first year of mid engine
Purchased my first corvette in December 2019. Used 2017 coup. Blown away with its performance, enjoyed every ride. Corvette was a dream when I was young. Now in my seventh decade it’s a reality. Hard work pays off. When the c8 came out it changed everything. Sold the 2017 to raise funds for the c8. Ordered a coup, torch red, black leather interior, GT2 seats, front lift, carbon flash outside mirror and wheels. Beautiful car and within budget. Looking at mid to late summer for delivery. Wouldn’t it be nice if GM could add a second shift and deliver my corvette Memorial weekend. I’m in my seventh decade and don’t want to die waiting for my c8.
They did add the second shift recently.
Great, maybe Memorial weekend.
Thanks for the info.
ordered my c8 jan 21 2020 pd for it in full at the sum of 75,347.00 and still no car, do you think they care?
Why would you pay for a car in full, before it was delivered. There are plenty of dealers accepting orders for $1k or $5k. My dealer accepted $1k.
I’m waiting til the dust settles, premium pay is a thing of the past and Chevy resolves a few of the noted problem areas. Thinking 2021 convertible, LT2, ceramic matrix gray metallic, natural mulan leather, front lift, mag sel ride, side rocker panels.
Ask Dump about the Fakedemic…..
Harold, keep your mask on and stay in the basement.
Harold,
How about asking that fraud Fauci and his gal pal Nancy about the PLANdemic…..
Why are people that are NOT interested in cars hi-jacking this comment section? Pathetic.
How many 2021 corvettes have been ordered. i ordered mine on Sept 17 2021
September 2020 I put down a deposit on a 2021 HTC. Today my dealer will be placing my order with GM.
My question is since it is a HTC will it be produced toward the end of 2021 like the 2020’s?
