2021 Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt Will Not Be Sold In This One State

Back in November 2019, GM announced the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt Edition at the 2019 SEMA Show. Now, nearly a year later, the special edition, heavy duty truck is almost in production. But when it does finally go into production at the end of September, the Silverado Carhartt Edition will not be available for purchase in one state.

Specifically, the Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt will not be sold in California, GM Authority has learned. In fact, CA will be the only U.S. state where the special edition model is not made available, due to a peculiar reason associated with the amber roof marker lamps.

The 2021 Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt Edition is based on Silverado 2500HD LTZ Crew Cab model and includes the optional Z71 Off-Road Package, LTZ Plus Package, LTZ Convenience Package and Safety Package II.

The special edition pickup is only offered in Mosaic Black Metallic paint, which is offset by unique Carhartt gold pinstripes throughout.

Up front resides the prominent bold grille with “CHEVROLET” script. The grille is finished in Mosaic Black Metallic, and features chrome grille inserts and the Z71 badge. The truck also features a black hood vent surround, body-color front and rear bumpers, a black skid plate, black Z71 badges, black beltline moldings (DLO surround), painted mirror caps, painted door handles, and Carhartt badging on doors and tailgate.

The Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt Edition also features roof marker lamps, 20-inch machined aluminum wheels with Grazen metallic painted accents, all-terrain tires, and 4-inch Black assist steps.

The bed features Chevytec spray-on bedliner and a soft roll-up tonneau cover, also adorned with the Carhartt logo.

Inside, the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt Edition features Carhartt two-tone interior trim, including stitching and seat panels. The headrests feature an embroidered Carhartt logo, while the all-weather floor liners also get the Carhartt logo. A Black bowtie on the horn pad and GM’s Safety Alert Seat round out the package inside the truck.

Interestingly, the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD Carhartt Edition almost featured Carhartt’s signature Duck Fabric technology for the seat upholstery. However, as we covered previously, the material didn’t really make sense for a truck interior, so instead, Chevrolet matched the signature Carhartt material color with its own leather treatment, creating the unique two-tone seats seen in the special edition pickup.

  1. Well what’s the reasoning? Read the article 3 times and it doesn’t say.

  2. Now that is a clickbait headline if ever I saw one. Since it’s California, I’m pretty sure, “This One Weird State!” would have been fine too.

Also, thanks for not telling us why. I guess we’ll wait for another article to explain why California won’t get this trim package.

Huh? The headline represents EXACTLY what’s taking place here. Your beef seems to be misguided.

“Also, thanks for not telling us why. I guess we’ll wait for another article to explain why California won’t get this trim package.”

Actually, we spent a month researching the reasoning behind this is, and we did so in a separate piece here:

      You are welcome!

      1. Yeah, I saw the other article. My “beef” was the headline purposely not saying which state, so that everyone would have to read the article.
Then, the article didn’t even explain why, when you already knew, just so you could post another article.

That’s called clickbait. That’s also why so many people upvoted that comment.

No one is forcing nor obligating you or anyone else to read anything.

“Then, the article didn’t even explain why, when you already knew, just so you could post another article.”

You’re making a lot of false assumptions in that statement. Here are the facts: research initiatives have different timelines. The time to press of both articles reflects those varying time frames. There is no conspiracy theory here.

“That’s called clickbait. That’s also why so many people upvoted that comment.”

So the amount of time it takes for one to do the legwork on something like and then to report on it – which no other outlet has done, by the way – is something you term “clickbait.” Is the “fake news” accusation coming next?

          1. So the question is, why would you sabotage your article with such a crappy, cheesy headline?

            1. The amount of cry babies like “Nate” is surprising and also saddening.

Readers like “Nate” got information that they didn’t know before. It cost them nothing to get it because they read it on a free publication and yet they’re upset.

Obviously none of these trolls masked as “readers” ever worked in journalism. They couldn’t possibly understand the idea of a developing story or a follow-up story or even developing a story or a headline that’s remotely interesting.

Alex – GMA is one of the best auto blogs out there. Keep it up and don’t let these cry babies tell you otherwise.

              1. Nate – I must say… you have issues.

GMAuthority reported on the situation and then explained it… and you’re STILL complaining!!!! How ridiculous is that?

Do you troll all other sites / publications / blogs the same, or do you have a ‘”thing” for Alex and GMA?

  4. Good thing i didn’t bet any money on it, i thought it was Hawaii. Guess California really is as f***ed up as they say. They probably feel Carhartt is only for conservatives, and there are none in California to sell the truck to. Ram should jump on a deal with Ariat and make an Ariat Longhorn Edition before Ford puts them on their king ranch.

    1. Just driving a truck in general is too conservative for California, let alone a carhartt edition truck.

  9. Roof marker lamps. 99.9% that is the reason. I don’t know the exact reason behind it, but any truck built for California uses GM RPO code YF5 California Emissions, and I think its all got to do with California vehicle laws on clearance lighting. Not sure if GVWR has to play into it or what. Carhartt Edition, the lamps are part of the package.

Here is the RPO code description and footnotes for U01 roof clearance lamps.

“Lamps, Smoked Amber roof marker, (LED)
1 – Included with (ANQ) Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition. Not available with (YF5) California state emissions requirements.
2 – Not available with (YF5) California state emissions requirements.”
