2021 Chevrolet Silverado Gets New Trailering Features And Tech

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado lineup has received a number of new trailering features and technologies that aim to make towing easier for owners.
In total, the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado has received three new trailering features:
- Trailer Length Indicator: the Trailer Length Indicator will appear on the truck’s central infotainment screen when a trailer is hooked up and the turn signal is activated. By displaying a red overlay twice the length of the compatible trailer on the screen, the driver can easily see which vehicles are present in their blind spot and if there is room for both the truck and trailer in the other lane.
- Jack-Knife Alert: This system will track the position of the compatible trailer in relation to the vehicle and provide an alert if a potential jack-knife situation is believed to be imminent.
- Cargo Bed View enhancement: this system comprises Cargo Bed Zoom View and Bed Hitch Guidance, which provide a rearward facing view of the truck that helps to align and hook up a gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailer.
These same trailering features were added to the 2021 GMC Sierra lineup as well. In a statement, General Motors said that it continually hears customer feedback indicating Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra buyers want “class-leading safety, technology and comfort to tow what they need, whether it’s a boat, an RV or a trailer hauling off-road toys.” These features will be available on both the Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD.
In addition to the new trailering features and technologies, the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado also has increased towing capacities for the available GM 2.7L L3B four-cylinder and GM 3.0L LM2 inline-six diesel engines. The truck also adds the new Multi-Flex tailgate, which operates in the same fashion as the MultiPro tailgate offered on the 2019 and 2020 GMC Sierra.

Sam,
Does this enhanced trailing system for the 2021 models have any information on backwards capabilities to upgrade the 2020 GMC trucks. I haul large trailers with the GMC AT4 2020 model and would like to have an upgraded system as well.
I hope they offer these features on the lower trims and not just available on the most expensive highest trims. There’s a lot of us that could use these features in our trucks we tow with, but don’t want or need panoramic sunroofs or leather
I’m also interested in knowing this; can the ’21 enhancements be uploaded to a 2020?
All these safety features for towing are all well and good. The most safety minded option is the “Heads Up” display. You no longer have to divert your eyes from the road while driving.
What I want to know is what trim levels is the Tech package available standard or as an option?
When will we be able to build a 2021 online?
I have a 2020 3500 DRW, LTZ. This was a lightly loaded LTZ without the entire camera option. I didn’t order this pickup, so I got what it came with. The pickup is wired for the rear tailgate camera (it was a bed delete 3500), but I would like to add one camera to use when hooking up the gooseneck hitch. Because it doesn’t the multi camera option, there doesn’t appear to be a way to do that right now. That sucks. They should allow you the ability to buy cameras and add them to the truck. It is frustrating, you know that they could do it, but chose to force you into buying a bunch of other options to get the multicamera option, without the ability to later add the cameras. I hope this is corrected soon.
