General Motors just launched the 2021 Cadillac XT4 in China, the brand’s largest market since 2017 and where the compact crossover was introduced two years ago. The company reports that the third model year of the Cadillac XT4 hits the Chinese market with a host of updates and new technologies, introducing the brand-new Face ID system – an unprecedented biometric mechanism for keyless entry and start.
In fact, the 2021 Cadillac XT4 is the first GM vehicle to include this new facial recognition system, which is powered by state-of-the-art hardware integrated in the front door frame that overlays the vehicle’s B-pillar. The Face ID system includes a high-definition binocular infrared camera, an adaptive light supplement system, a touchscreen and a fingerprint reader. For the time being, it’s unclear if it will be a China-only feature or if it will come to North America.
The Face ID system is an optional feature on the 2021 Cadillac XT4, which costs 10,000 CNY (about $1,470 USD at the current exchange rate) and offers a keyless experience. When the user approaches the driver’s door, the touchscreen and high-definition camera are automatically activated by detecting the proximity of the user’s smartphone. Once powered on, the system scans the person’s face and unlocks the door.
The new biometric system also incorporates fingerprint and password unlocking, which can be combined according to customer preferences. After entering the vehicle, the user can start the vehicle without a key. This feature can be configured for use by up to eight people, with one administrator and seven regular users, making car sharing more convenient.
Additionally, the 2021 Cadillac XT4 integrates the latest Cadillac User Experience infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay, enhanced voice recognition and many other advanced features to keep up with the demands of younger customers. The new features are complemented by the next-generation OnStar telematics system with high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot and full roadside assistance.
The 2021 Cadillac XT4 is now available in China with a new exterior color dubbed Cherry Bomb that has an exclusive crystal paint finish. All versions keep the turbocharged 2.0L LSY I-4 engine with 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, mated to GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission with Electronic Precision Shift technology. Here are the starting prices of the six versions of the 2021 XT4 in China:
