General Motors dropped a teaser video for the upcoming 2022 GMC Hummer EV late in July, sparking a flurry of speculation and providing some insight with regard to what the battery-powered utility will offer. Now, GM Authority is here to report on a fresh development with the reveal of a new GMC Hummer EV wheel design.
The image seen here shows what appears to be the 2022 GMC Hummer EV stripped down to its bare platform and battery pack, with large electric motors placed at either end. Next to the motors are the new Hummer wheels.
The wheels come with a silver finish and intricate pocketed-spoke design. The design uses a concave face for added depth, as well as faux beadlocks around the perimeter of the wheel face. In the center of the wheel, the Hummer logo is displayed in black.
It’s currently unclear if this particular wheel design will be standard or optional with the 2022 GMC Hummer EV.
Last month, we got an eyeful of a separate GMC Hummer EV wheel with a slightly more open-spoke design and polished finish. These new wheels appear to have a smaller overall diameter compared to the wheels seen in the original teaser video.
As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV will be offered as both an SUV and a pickup truck, with the latter referred to as a “Sport Utility Truck,” or SUT. Both body styles will ride on the new GM BT1 electric vehicle platform and will feature the automaker’s latest Ultium battery technology, both of which are featured in these new photos. Range-per-charge is expected to top out at 400 miles for certain models.
The powertrain will consist of three separate motor configurations, including a single-motor, dual-motor, and three-motor setup. Max output will hit at 1,000 horsepower, propelling the GMC Hummer EV to 60 mph in just three seconds. Vehicle production is expected to take place at the GM Detroit-Hamtramck facility. Look for a full reveal in the fall.

I’ve read many articles on this hummer I’m still a bit confused on what footprint this is going to have? Is it going to have a Sierra/Silverado footprint? Or more Colorado/canyon?
Eric the a Hummer is based on the Full Size truck platform. That platform was designed for ICE and EV applications.
expect something around Crew short bed and Tahoe size in the vehicles.
Thanks for the info, I was hoping it would be on the bigger side.
It is still going to be H2 size. H1 really is too large for greater sales.
The new Hummer is going to be smaller than the H2, from what I can understand, between the H2 and H3.
Over all bulk of the body but it is still a full sized vehicle.
The H2 was based on a Tahoe but they stretched the body to the limits. This time it will be more in proportion to the Frame.
C8.R,
Perfect explanation, wel said. You hit the nail dead on the head.
As for the wheels there will b3 a number of options based on trim and SPO options just as we see with the trucks and as SUV models.
These wheels look very much like the old H2 and H3 wheels, which I believe all housed 35 inch tires. It’s smaller than the variants we saw in the last teaser video, which I expect to be the ones you’ll find on the big boy, 1,000 hp variant.
I bet these wheels are either the base trim, single motor variant wheels, or the ones for the dual-motor variant. I’m betting that the dual-motor Hummer will be the best seller of the three, with around 700 hp.
As someone who has an H2 these rims dont look like mine at all. They hold a resemblance to my H3 rims.
I am really hoping for something smaller. The H3 was a good start, but I would like to see a H5 or a two passenger H7!
This is only 5ne first, give them time.
Barra has already said that the line is expected to expand. I imagine that, assuming the SUT and SUV are successes, GMC will build a Wrangler-sized electric SUV to beat Jeep to the punch. Boy, would THAT piss off all those Jeeple lmao.
Where are they gonna charge all these new electric vehicles when they start hitting the market
Just like other vehicles. You can buy a charge station for your house. And alot of major companies have charge sites. But its time for people to start looking into charge stations that replace gas stations
There has to be a federal program to install charging stations at every mall, big box store, movie theater. Anywhere you’d be expected to spend at least an hour. There needs to be “charge” stations, just as there are gas stations. These would really make sense, if batteries could charge from near empty to full, in about the same time it takes to fill a tank with gas. I bet the technology exists now for this, but try getting it into the works, over the objections of oil and gas company lobbyists.
No be cause as the market grows more chargers will appear.
The truth is we may see batteries that will charge 80% in the time to fill a tank of fuel. Then chargers may at any gas stations and charge times will no longer be a factor.
We are not there yet with a battery that is cost effective or durable yet.
The gas stations would be all over 5his if they could charge this fast. Gas stations are making more money in beer and lottery tickets vs gas. Gas is just to get you in for over priced goods.
With a base price starting at $70,000 not many charging stations will be needed!
Base price will start at $50k for the single motor, RWD version.
Also GM is working with outside vendors to set up more charging stations in the areas they expect the initial first high sales to be in.
That is part of the reason not to rush things out over night. This transition will take time and is not for everyone immediately.
The only thing i would replace my H2 with is another H2. These are really cool and all. But its a cheap replacement.
Why isn’t GM making an electric version of the vehicle I see the most on the roads in my area? The Equinox? The Trax is useless, if you have anything more than 3 passengers and a few days worth of groceries. I get 5 people in my Equinox comfortably, plus it’s great for when I buy flats of flowers and tomatoes in the spring. I’m always amazed at how much I can get into my Equinox, back seat up or down. I see so many of them on my 40 minute commute for work, that GM must be making a mint off this suv. So, why is there no electric version of an actually useful vehicle? The Bolt? Get real. A Hummer? Who can afford it?!
Karen if they built and sold a Nox version now you would not pay the price it would cost.
The idea is that people will pay more for the Hummer initially and that will even with less models to bring a greater return on investment,
By doing this with profits made by the Hummer it will lead to cheaper batteries and cheaper EV models like the Nox that you would buy for near the same cost of a gas model.
If they did a Nox now to make a profit it would be considerably more than the price for the present gas model and too few people would buy.
Much of the new technology today was found in higher priced cars first and in a short time the cost came to where it is now cost effective to be even in the cheapest base models.
We see this in electronics. Just look at big screen tv’s. They came out they were $6,000. Today they are larger and $400.
Bingo
C8.R nailed it. Look at Tesla. First the high priced sports car, then the large expensive sedan, then the large expensive SUV, then the more affordable mid-sized sedan, then the more affordable mid-sized CUV. Working on product and cost improvement every step of the way so that eventually they can produce mainstream products profitably and at reasonable prices. Same goes for most new EV brands (Lucid, Rivian, etc).
The ones that started with small “affordable” EVs had to make them with such cheap materials (Mitsubishi iMiEV) or with really short range (original Nissan Leaf) or have completely gone out of business (Coda)
And this wheel be all wheel drive ..??
Miath,
There will be three powertrain setups:
– Single-motor, RWD
– Dual-motor, AWD
– Tri-motor, AWD
Invest in GMC now. These sales are going to be huge the first 2 years. I guarantee it
Demand for the H2 was initially extremely high for the type of vehicle it was. Part of that was because of how distinctive and extravagant it was, and part of it was because of how athletes and celebrities all bought them. What ended up killing that meteoric rise was the equally meteoric rise of fuel prices. With no need for gas this time around, there won’t be soaring gas prices to kill Hummer again.
This time around, I agree Jeremy…these are going to take off like a rocket. And I don’t see any downside like expensive gas to kill the momentum again. This could be one of the strongest moves GM has made in the last 30+ years.
Invest in GMC now. Once they begin to take orders. Its going through the roof from this alone.
