First Images Of Refreshed 2021 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV Revealed

Last week, General Motors officially launched the refreshed 2021 Chevrolet S10 in Brazil – the second and last update of the mid-size pickup that the company has marketed internationally since 2012. Now, we have the first images of the 2021 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV, which receives a styling refresh of its own in addition to technological enhancements.

As we previously reported, and in keeping with tradition, the refreshed 2021 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV adopts the same front-end changes made to the S10 pickup, bringing it up to date with Chevrolet’s latest corporate identity. Preliminary images show that the 2021 TrailBlazer midsize SUV adopts the distinctive new front-end design of the range-topping S10 High Country.

As such, the 2021 Chevrolet TrailBlazer wears the prominent horizontal bar grille with the CHEVROLET script in high relief and the gold bow tie at the bottom right. This design is inspired by the distinctive grille featured on several variants of the brand’s North American pickup line, such as the new Colorado ZR2, the Silverado 1500 (Work Truck and Custom) and the Silverado HD (Work Truck, Custom, LT and LTZ).

Unlike the 2021 S10, which offers a different front-end design for lesser-equipped variants, this chrome-accented grille comes standard on the 2021 TrailBlazer, which once again appears to be offered in South America in Premier trim only. The rest of the body-on-frame SUV remains unchanged on the outside, with a new wheel design and a couple of new colors as the only novelties.

The 2021 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV’s interior was updated with the latest connectivity and safety features from GM. Among them, there’s a new-generation infotainment system with eight-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, high-speed on-board Wi-Fi, a new instrument panel, Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Braking and six airbags.

The 2021 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV is expected to launch in Brazil shortly, when an official image gallery, all equipment details and pricing should be revealed. The model will maintain the 2.8L I-4 XLD28 turbo-diesel Duramax engine that delivers 200 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, though upgraded with an improved turbine for better acceleration.

  2. BOF for Brazil but not here? Come on! The Brazil model deserves trailblazer not the FWD USA one! However it does not matter women still like the overpriced FWD CUVs and continue to buy them!

    1. I would love a zr2 version with the diesel for the USA . Please Chevy get with it.

      1. You want them to bring this to the US, and also put a diesel in it?

You may as well go ahead and ask for a manual transmission with your pie in the sky requests.

  3. I’m not a huge fan of bof suvs, or trucks in general, but I kind of agree with Wullah now. The release of the Trailblazer was sort of a letdown for me, especially considering that the subcompact+ size is the vehicle class I’m most passionate about.

GM could still use the old GMC Jimmy name and plush up the interior and I bet they could charge a premium for a bof suv, especially if they give it some of the ZR2 goodies. I’m just not sure if it would make sense financially since the Trailblazer is manufactured in Thailand and Brazil, but it doesn’t seem like it would be too large of an investment allowing GM to somewhat compete with the Bronco and Jeeps. Currently in Brazil GM charges a huge premium for the Bof Trailblazer (starting at 45K). It would have to be priced starting around 40k to compete in that segment of vehicles in the U.S. and GM already has the Tahoe and Yukon that start around 50K.

Perhaps, naming the new Trailblazer something different would have made more sense. I’m still holding out hope that the platform leads to a new iteration of the Cruze or Sonic hatchback with the availability of a somewhat sporty trim with a 2.0t. However, I’m not going to hold my breath on any new exciting ICE vehicles from GM because it doesn’t seem like they want to invest any research and development there. Personally, I think that could prove to be a mistake in the 5-10 year short term, but I don’t have a crystal ball.

  4. I would love a zr2 version of this with the diesel in the USA. Or better yet just put a traverse body on the zr2 chassis the wheel base is only a 1″ or 2″ off.

    1. The traverse is quite a bit wider I think. It would probably make more sense just to use most of the body and panels already in production in Brazil. They wouldn’t have to redesign anything really, maybe just plush up some panels and the interior. GM could implement the same production used in Brazil and do it in the US where the Colorado is already made, or just import the body, or the whole thing. There are a lots of options GM could explore if they green light a project like this, especially considering they could ship to the east coast with massive container ships, not limited by the Panama canal.

  5. This would be a great addition to the GM line in America. I have a 2002 Trailblazer LTZ and would buy this truck in a heartbeat. I like the bof design because I don’t really need a pickup but like to tow my ATV’s. In addition, my Trailblazer has proven to be an excellent vehicle for flat towing behind the motorhome. I was excited when they announced the new Blazer and then it came out looking like every other fwd SUV on the market. I’m hanging on to the Trailblazer until something better comes along. Are you listening to these comments, GM?

  6. These as they are would never have done well in America. They are like the Holden trucks just enough different that they would have struggled.

Now on the other hand GM was not all that sure the mid size trucks were going to work here. We know now they will and did but with a good make over before they came here.

Now that we are moving to the second gen platform I would love to see a restyled model built here as a SUV in 2 and 4 doors. It would be an open body concept like the Bronco. Also would share the second Gen ZR2 suspension.

The present chassis on. My Canyon has points that out can be expended and contracted for length. That is how we go the long bed. This will be modified for the next gen an I hope they bring with it a Bronco fighter.

But if you have ever seen what these had they were more basic than would have been acceptable here just as the trucks were before they were redone.

Putting off road tires on a Blazer or Acadia is not going to cut it.

    1. I think it would make more sense to try to compete mostly for Grand Cherokee (technically a uni-body i think) and 4runner sales then the Bronco and Wrangler to a lesser extent… Let the open top continue to be a niche market and visit that down the road. Modular bodies are great, but a traditional 4 door hardtop needs to be the top priority, if GM decided to pursue a project like this. Pricing would be critical and to keep price down making just one body style would be logical.

Most new Wranglers sold are 4 doors and I imagine that number will continue to grow. Some sources say they 4 door Jeeps outsell the 2 doors at a ratio of at least 2 to 1. I think offering a 2 door is unimportant and perhaps a waste of resources. The most important aspect is the price if GM could introduce a base trim it at under 40k it might do well… But doesn’t a 4×4 WT Colorado MSRP for like 34K? The question is can GM keep the cost down, that’s why using a lot of the existing body, at least the basic structural sheet metal (pillars, sills, base) , makes sense to me.

      Reply
      1. A Jeep and Wrangler type vehicle is a life style vehicle in one of the fastest growing segments there are. Yes most are 4 doors because that is what is most useful and what customers look for, We have a ton of hard tops ans new 4 runner sales not even close to what a Jeep fighter would be. A=

Also the GM one would be lift off panels much like the coming Hummer no cheap soft top that is a pain and generally tears,

Pricing is key and one based on the truck would be starting at $29K. If you are going to offer trail use a 2 door is needed.

MSRP is around low 30K range but you find them selling for in the High $20K range,

The Bronco is based on the Ranger that is higher priced then most Colorado models and the base Bronco is $29. Proof it can be done. Base price at $40K you have to be kidding?

        Reply
        1. You said it yourself, MSRP isn’t always what things actually sell for. A basic 4 door SUV based on the GMT 31XX would realistically sell for the mid to high 30’s. The Base Bronco is also a 2 door, which probably won’t sell nearly as well as the 4 door variant.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee outsells the wrangler, and isn’t facing direct competition from the Bronco already, but the segment does overlap a little. Some people in the market for a Wrangler or Bronco will certainly look at other SUVs. How well is Ford doing right now btw? Last time I checked they hadn’t delivered a single Bronco or Mach-E.

It’s time for GM to make some decisions that make actual sense… and using an existing body would make the most financial sense. The equipment to produce it already exists and it would be the quickest way to bring a horizontal engine to the midsize SUV market.

So are you going to buy the New EV Hummer, or the new fictional Bronco fighter, or a C8.R? Or are you just gonna buy another Equinox? It sounds like you’re a little out of touch with reality.

          1. Fully in touch with where the market is. Boring CUV models are what sell. Like it or not the Nox prints money.

As for me I would be very interested in a Bronco fighter from GM to replace my Canyon. It would need to to be body on frame and have removable panels that are solid like the Bronco.

No Hummer as that kind of money I plan to buy a Corvette, either a C8 or a C1. One is more fun and the other is fun but a better investment.

            Reply
            1. “boring CUVs are what sells” but you want to dump millions of dollars into developing a lifestyle SUV in a segment that sells only 230k units and just recently got even more competitive… so you can have a retirement toy. Ok 👌 that’s straight up hypocritical and nonsense.

              Reply
              1. Oh, you mean like pointing out that Ford hasn’t delivered a vehicle not scheduled for production for months? I guess they could’ve half-assed it like GM and had the customer be the beta tester.

You yourself pointed out that most Broncos would likely be the 4 door. That starts higher than $30k and the packages add from there. You see more Wrangler Sports than anything else? No.

But they need a 5 passenger unibody crossover! Because that isn’t what the new Blazer already is, pathetically enough. Add some more plastic skid plates/wheel arches, give it a tiny lift which will no-doubt F up the suspension geometry worse than it already is, and throw in some all terrain tires, boom, Grand Cherokee competitor.

I know that, even as obtuse as you clearly are, you’ve seen the buzz and excitement over the Bronco. You see the Jeep Wrangler selling all they can build, the more expensive the more desirable, and profitable enough to make the whole company more viable for yet another “merger of equals”.

Oh and GM hasn’t delivered a single GMC Hummer, yet. I thought it customary to announce/build/deliver an all-new, radically different vehicle simultaneously? Like, within an hour or two, I guess?

                    Reply
        2. Don’t let this idiot bring you down to his level. GM should build a real 4×4 SUV in the same light as the Wrangler and Bronco. Just like Corvette, it will be a halo vehicle to generate interest, and the ones that do sell will be much more profitable than dumping 30 crossovers into a rental fleet. Even if 60% of the intended buyers decide a Traverse or Colorado or Silverado fits their needs better, they’re still there because the came to see the lifestyle vehicle.

How many Grand Cherokees does Jeep sell to guys who’s wives said “no way” after the test drove a Wrangler? Plenty.

Since Blazer and TrailBlazer have been ruined, I say they simply call it the Chevrolet Bison. I believe GM needs this vehicle more than they realize. I say that as a Ford guy (who does have a ’74 Chevy C10 in daily-driver rotation, lol).

          Reply
          1. GM already has several “halo vehicles” they don’t need to waste money developing more, especially for a niche market.

“How many Grand Cherokees does Jeep sell to guys who’s wives said “no way” after the test drove a Wrangler? Plenty.” –This is exactly why GM could just use the body already in production in Brazil and drop it on current GMT31 frames to compete with longitudinal SUV applications.

Doesn’t Ford currently trade at like $7 a share? Doesn’t GM trade at like $26? Doesn’t GM have a larger market share? Telsa stock can take a swing as big as Fords whole market cap and people barely notice… Why should GM follow the lead of a company like Ford that struggles to keep up?

Didn’t Ford’s CEO just bounce, right before the tentative release of the Mach-e and Bronco, that seems strange. The Bronco is OK, I guess, but reeks of desperation. I think Ford isn’t selling nearly as many Rangers as they anticipated and their desperation is showing.

Maybe you should stick to the Fords and the old ass GMs in your rotation. Leave the adult decisions to those capable of making them.

    2. Corey, read the article again. It’s an S10. It has a real frame and can probably tow 7000 pounds with the diesel engine. Go and look at the tow rating on the North American market Blazer with the V6. It’s only 1500 pounds. It’s not a real truck, with no backbone ( frame ) just a pretender.

  13. Being an owner of a 2 wheel drive 81 K5 Blazer, I think it would make good sense to offer a rugged, Colorado-based halo truck(knowing its not going to be a big seller) that runs alongside the crossovers(which pays the bills). They have turned the new Blazer into a crossover, but they could call a truck-based SUV a K5 for Chevy, and Jimmy for GMC. It would be interesting and nice to see.

  14. I don’t understand this at all. Why is GM spending the money to develop different vehicles for different sub-markets? Why, with the Bronco on the horizon, did they decide that the Blazer and Trailblazer, needed to be crappy crossovers? While at the same time they were making a true truck-based SUV for other markets? This body on frame Trailblazer looks fantastic. Especially the diesel option. Straight-up WOW. But no. We get dumb crossovers wearing the name tags of these historic icons while other markets get actual good stuff.

  15. Dumb… they look horrible and I would never buy either one. Had an 84 s10 blazer in the day and I still miss that old box. The new Trailblazer looks like another damn Equinox which I cant stand and the S10 looks too much like a Ranger. Ford killed it with the new Bronco. GM needs to remove head from rectum… Born and raised a GM guy but these are even more disappointing than the new Blazer.

    1. Unless you live in South America you don’t have to bother being disappointed by either of these.

I wish they would update the headline for this article so idiots that can’t read would stop posting nonsense about these vehicles that ARE NOT FOR THE U.S.

    2. I’ve got a 2005 Trailblazer LS which I’ve loved since I bought it new and we’ve got a 2018 Traverse LT1 that we also really like. The lineup was fine with the Trax, Equinox and Traverse. Sacrificing the Blazer and Trailblazer badges to the Crossover gods for no appreciable reason was, yes, dumb. The new USDM Trailblazer is an abomination and the Blazer is too. They did the same thing to the Blazer that FCA did to the Cherokee but with even worse execution.

GM could’ve saved a ton of money on tooling and design and marketing and just sold this Trailblazer here in the US market. This Trailblazer, in 4×4 with the diesel trim would’ve been a hit. Instead we got 2 more generic soulless crossovers. Thanks GM.

Theres enough mid size compact suv’s, we want full size blazer, with a removable top, and optional packages that include standard transmission and duramax diesel w Allison trans with true off road package. Like back in the 60’s when the 1st blazer came out we need to put jeep and bronco back in their place.
