Right out of the box, the C7-generation Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is an absolute monster, rocking the boat with the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT5 engine pumping out 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of torque. It’s a hefty sum, no doubt about it, but that hasn’t stopped Hennessey Performance Engineering from adding even more giddy-up with its various engine upgrades. Now, we’re getting an earful of an uncorked ZR1 in the following brief video.
The video is just two minutes long, giving watchers some nice rolling shots of a black C7-gen Chevrolet Corvette as it unleashes its blown V8 up and down some straightaways. This particular vehicle belongs to a Mr. Kimmel, who sent it off the Hennessey for its HPE850 Supercharged Engine Upgrade.
True to the name, the upgrade ups output from the LT5 to 850 horsepower at 6,300 rpm, and 850 pound-feet of torque at 4,300 rpm. Making it all possible is a high-flow intake, new headers and midpipes, high-flow cats, and new tuning. The package also adds new exterior emblems and a set of premium floor mats, all of which pairs quite well with the ZR1’s unique exterior styling and aero.
Interestingly, this is the least-powerful upgrade Hennessey offers, with an HPE1000 Upgrade and HPE1200 Upgrade also on the table.
The extra power is no doubt nice, but what we’re really digging here is the sound. Press the loud pedal to the carpet, and this upgraded Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 unleashes some real thunder, screaming up to redline with one very wicked exhaust note.
It’s enough to paint a smile on anyone lucky enough to be sitting in the cabin, as we see in this video.
“It never gets old,” Mr. Kimmel says as his newly upgraded Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 burbles and pops on deceleration. We wholeheartedly agree.

It is very easy to get more power from a boosted engine. An intake, exhaust and a tune will certainly wake them up. With this being said, I’m sure that Hennessey charges top dollar for this package. It’s easy to install these bolt-ons yourself. Just find a top notch shop for a ZR1 ECM exchange and you’re ready to go.
The extra money goes for the badges plastered everywhere.
It’s a C7 Corvette which makes this a non-story; it would be different if Hennessey had solved the problem which apparently prevents the C8 Corvette from getting a 850 hp supercharged or twin-turbo V8.
There have been countless C8’s that have been TT’d already and make serious power. Do a little bit of research and you’ll find plenty.
Next year the c8 will be toonable, their is no problems with the c8 other than not being able to toon the computer properly.
