1956 Ford F-100 For Sale Has A General Motors Heart

On the surface, this 1956 Ford F-100 seems like the perfect vintage cruiser for any Blue Oval fan.

With glistening Matador Red paint, a perfectly straight body, shining chrome trim and bumpers, newly finished stained wood bed panels with stainless steel strips and American Racing wheels, one would think Ford fans would be all over this pickup, which is currently for sale online via Barrett-Jackson. There’s one aspect of this pickup that may turn the Ford crowd off, though: the engine.

Powering this pickup is a General Motors-sourced 6.0L Vortec V8 engine, which was available in several models such as the Chevrolet Silverado, the GMC Sierra and the Cadillac Escalade, among others. The engine is linked up with an automatic transmission (Barrett-Jackson did not indicate which GM automatic the builder used), along with a Ford nine-inch rear differential with 3:55 gears. The truck also has an adjustable Volare front torsion bar and CPP brakes.

Inside, this pickup benefits from a nicely crafted cabin with two-tone leather upholstery, a Vintage Air heating and air conditioning system, a polished billet steering wheel with a hand-stitched rim, a Lokar shifter and a polished stainless-steel steering column and pedals.

Barrett-Jackson is famous for its auto auctions, but this truck is being offered for sale via the company’s Scottsdale Collection Showroom, which sells cars similar to how a classic car dealer would. Barrett-Jackson is asking $52,900 in exchange for this bright red, GM-powered Ford F-100. That’s quite a bit of cash for this truck, no doubt, but there’s no denying this is a very high-quality restoration. As the old adage goes, cheap work ain’t good, and good work ain’t cheap.

  1. They’ll deny it but even Ford fans know that Ford engines are crap.

  2. While old is cool, especially with trucks, you can’t out cool a 55′-59′ GM truck so forget the ford design BS.
