Digital payment is becoming the new go-to way to pay for goods and services. Want to order some food for pickup? There’s probably a digital app to order and pay for the food, depending on the establishment in question. The same goes for hotel reservations, parking and virtually every other commodity.
General Motors is taking full advantage of the new app-based economy with its in-vehicle Marketplace service. Through the GM Marketplace, users can order and pay for food, parking, fuel and countless other goods and services all from the central touchscreen in their vehicle.
The automaker recently put together a video instruction for owners of the 2021 Buick Encore GX on how to take full advantage of the GM Marketplace app in the new subcompact crossover. To demonstrate the system, GM showed users how to use the Yelp app within GM Marketplace to make a reservation at a restaurant.
As expected, this process is pretty straightforward. All the user has to do is enter the GM Marketplace menu, select the Yelp app and then select the ‘Change Location’ tab. The app will then display a number of nearby restaurants, what type of food they serve, how many reviews they’ve received and what their average review score was. After selecting their desired restaurant, the user can hit the ‘Reserve Table Here’ tab, indicate how big their party is and select a reservation time that works for them. The infotainment system will then provide them with route guidance to the restaurant.
This is one of many everyday tasks that the GM Marketplace app can help expedite. Other companies with a GM Marketplace app include Domino’s Pizza, Mobil1, Exxon, Yelp, Parkwhiz and IHOP. These various apps allow the user to order and pay for food remotely from their vehicle, pay for and reserve parking and more.
