General Motors has officially announced that the all-new GMC Hummer EV will debut this coming fall. Reservations will also open up in the fall, while production will kick off a year later in the fall of 2021. The automaker declined to provide any exact dates or additional details on the forthcoming battery-powered pickup, but did include a new teaser video that lists some enticing features to whet our collective appetites.
The new video is just over a minute long, and like previous teaser videos, includes an appearance from NBA legend LeBron James.
“The real revolutionaries, the ones that change the game forever, understand that strength is never enough,” James narrates. “Evolving, imagining, seeing the world not as it is, but how it could be. That’s how true greatness is realized. That is how you change the world.”
The video lists a few specs already known to us, such as the automaker’s claims that the GMC Hummer EV will produce 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque, and sprint to 60 mph in three seconds. The automaker’s Ultium battery technology will provide the juice.
The video also lists a number of the all-electric truck’s features, including:
- Open Air Infinity Roof
- Adrenaline Mode
- Crab Mode
- Super Fast Charging
- Next Gen Super Cruise
- Modular Sky Panels
- Ultra Vision Cameras
The video footage is composed of several quick shots that show a behind-the-scenes look at vehicle development, featuring things like the GM’s new BT1 vehicle platform, which will underpin the GMC Hummer EV. We also get to see a clay mockup of the truck’s design, and a bare prototype model being built.
The video ends with an outline of the truck in silhouette, followed by an outline of the GMC Hummer EV’s second body style, an SUV model, also in silhouette. The truck body style will officially be called an SUT, or Sport Utility Truck, while the SUV body style will stick with the common SUV naming.
The GMC Hummer EV was originally slated for a reveal on May 20th, but was delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stay tuned, as we’ll have plenty more to say about the new GMC Hummer EV as its debut approaches. In the meantime, make sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more GMC Hummer news, GMC news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

Yes! Finally some news. I’ve been dying for any new information about the Hummer EV. This thing looks so sick. Recognizably Hummer, but modernized.
I can’t wait to see all of it and read the details.
Most here have had a good feeling about this from the beginning…but that optimism is always cautious. Would they screw up the styling? Would this just be an electric Sierra with a Hummer grille? Would it clearly half-assed, the “GM Special??” Were they just capitalizing on an iconic name to make some extra cash, and that’s it?
Sitting here today, I can say this: they’ve done none of the above. Instead, they’ve stayed true to the classic and immediately recognizable Hummer styling DNA, worked in tons of power, capability and rugged utility, and done this thing THOROUGHLY, the first time, and haven’t settled for less. Which we’ve been begging for from GM since Day 1.

Ladies and gentlemen…this looks AWESOME.
What are you basing this on? The clay model that looks like an Avalanche?
I’m pretty sure we’ll need to wait a bit to see what this thing actually looks like.
Nate…buddy. As far as the looks, I think it’s pretty obvious that the design is spot on in terms of Hummer heritage. Unless you’d like to argue otherwise (which is a pretty rough hill to die on), but hey, if you so choose, be my guest.
And as far as the capability, read up on the BT1 chassis, and what it’s based on, for all you need to know. On this site, anywhere, its all over the interweb. As far as utility, check out all the options, teasers, and descriptions of the vehicle from people who have seen both variants already.
Any other questions?
We don’t know what it looks like or what it costs.
Those are the top two things people most want to know about when buying something.
Maybe it will be awesome. Maybe it will be amazing. But it’s a bit early to claim that.
I’d say we have about 80% of the vehicle visible in the looks department. I assume you watched the teaser vid? The prototype is fully visible, only thing off are the roof panels, tires and doors. Not to mention that we have the front image and silhouette. So we basically know what it looks like.
Cost, I’ll give you. I expect pricey. But being pricey wouldn’t negate this as an awesome vehicle.
From everything I’ve learned about it, my opinion is that the Hummer EV is awesome, not only in physical form, but in concept, in the bringing back of a decade-gone nameplate and keeping true to its roots. I don’t think I’m alone.
You’re obviously very excited about it. Personally I think it’s just a niche project, and not really that interesting.
They’ll sell a few, but in the grand scheme of things, it just isn’t going to be important.
I am. And you have a right not to be. Plenty of other ICE trucks (Sierra is my personal favorite) or electrics to suit your taste. The joys of an open market.
But on importance, I think an EV Hummer has more potential to warm up the most anti-electric crowd to EVs than any other vehicle in existence. Probably won’t sell 50k+ units a year, but GM doesn’t need to. They’re making money on a high-margin product in a hot segment (lifestyle/offroad vehicles). Agree to disagree.
Looks like some of the details are nearly spot-on with recent renderings
Things just got a bit interesting….
Over-the-air re-flash capabilities to upgrade the software for the next gen super cruise is the most intriguing part. Autonomous driving hummers? Would have never imagined this even a couple of years ago.
Crab Mode could be like tank turn seen in other electric trucks.
It’s likely for rock crawling and going over obstacles off roading not for turning.
Likely super slow and high torque.
Or side-by-side turning….
Likely, Crab Mode is a advanced Quadrasteer 2.0.
It is the tank turn or with EV it will have a rear steer that will let the wheels turn the same way to drag walk side ways that would be much more useable on the trail.
I truly appreciate the effort being put forth by GM. But, as a young professional who really just wants a good looking, exciting personal vehicle, I am left wondering what niche is something like this trying to satisfy? Initial estimates of $50k-$70k for these models? It looks like the Bronco will let me have the visual appeal, without requiring me to get a $2,500 dollar “Hit the Road Package”. I loved the Hummer brand as a kid, I still have the H1 poster; my first car was a GTP, I went to school and leased a Volt after my first job, now I DD a Colorado. But, I still think $38k for a midsize truck that is pretty bland is insane. I would love to see GM bring some products to market that a young professional could afford. Just looking for some affordable excitement to be put back in the General’s lineup… I remember when $23k could get you a pretty sweet Cobalt SS or HHR SS back in the day. Now $45k gets me an RS Blazer, without LED headlights or Memory seats ($3,575 optional package). Higher-ups, just remember; “You can sell a young man’s car to an old man, but you can’t sell an old man’s car to a young man”
You can buy a Camaro Turbo 1LE for $30K that will blow the doors off of most sporty cars that are similarly priced.
The Camaro probably isn’t a great replacement for his Colorado though.
When trade in time a $38-42k or so CT4-V might be nice but also let’s see what the VSS-R will bring us, I doubt it won’t be a ICE coupe/sedan mid-decade.
That’s true. But, the rumor is no true Camaro replacement is on the deck once this life cycle is complete. So once my lease is up what’s on the horizon? Plus, we live in the Northeast, so DD’ing a Camaro is a little more challenging. And the rear seat doesn’t lend itself too well to a baby seat. I would take a lower model Colorado with the ZR2 package. I just want the goods, no need for leather, heated seats, embroidered headrests, just the engineered parts. Similar to the mid 90s S-10 ZR2 platforms. As a GM shareholder, I understand the theory, but as a car guy, just makes every vehicle seem like another appliance (unless you can afford to drop some change). I wanted the sport truck package on my Colorado, but in order to get remote start and XM -the only real options I cared about- I needed to upgrade to an LT. And for that price, my truck still doesn’t have a push-button start, auto climate control, heated seats, or power seats. My Volt lease was $100 less a month and the build quality was phenomenal along with the standard options. Understanding that its now served its purpose, and has sense been discontinued.
ZR2 can be found for 38 that are not bland.
GM does need a Bronco, Wrangler fighter as that is where the performance market is.
I has a HHR SS But it and the Cobalt SS were sales disappointments.
The truth is $30k and less does not buy much vehicle anymore. We are in the age where $35k is just an average sedan or a small CUV.
The old adage has change you can still an old a young mans car but it is difficult to sell a young man any car.
They either can’t afford it or they just see it as transportation. Young auto enthusiasts do exist but not in great numbers anymore and many don’t have deep pockets. The passion for vehicles has turned from performance to utility and lifestyle. That is why twenty something women are now buying Wrangles vs Mustang V6 convertibles.
Our company does have a ZR2, Orange Crush, Extended Cab. And the sticker on that truck was $42,990, leased back in March 2019. But, we always joke about the lack of basic fundamentals in that truck. For $42k, its an attractive truck, but the build quality is relatively poor and the materials are generally lacking in quality. I’m sure sales were not monumental for the SS family, however, I’m sure the required engineering to develop those performance models was relatively low. Considering almost everything was pre-engineered.
I live in a relatively rural area in the Northeast, and the vast majority of young professionals drive Jeeps. Or performance-oriented small cars and trucks. But, I understand that markets not as large as it once was.
The main point of my initial statement was, GM needs an authentic Bronco fighter. Not necessarily a niche Truck/SUT that’s less expensive than a model X but far more expensive than a Jeep/Bronco. And arguably it probably shouldn’t even be compared to a Jeep or Bronco, based on its design. Understanding that this is GM’s step 1 in making electric power affordable to the masses.
Whether GM needs a Bronco / Wrangler competitor or not is kind of irrelevant. They clearly weren’t expecting a Bronco or the Blazer wouldn’t be a grocery getter CUV.
It takes years to engineer a new vehicle, and by then who knows if that segment is even hot anymore.
It just isn’t going to happen.
Dan sticker may be $42k but realized sale prices can easily be found at $38 and even $37k. With few options they are loaded up too. A real bargain.
The interior is no better or worse in a class where price is key. I would rather have the duel, piston brakes and full boxed frame vs some Novak trim inside, besides if you want aluminum trim inside get a GMC.
Nothing was pre engineered on the HHR SS. It was not just a Engine swap. They had to build the LNF for this platform. It share little with the 2.5 Eco. The suspension had its own bit. Including rear discs the standard cars did not have, Mark Stielow of GM spent a ton of time tuning the platform so in the end they may have been lucky to break even. As a owner of one of these the handling was great but I had the GM tune and it was difficult to get the tires to hook up killing much of the fun. FWD hates 300 hp plus. I was running 23 pounds of boost and it could trigger the traction control at 50 mph. If it were only RWD or AWD.
I work in the performance after market we used to be all cars and some trucks today it mostly trucks and Jeeps and it is growing fast. That is where the market is going.
My thought is a new mid size truck is coming in 2023 so take it and do a ZR2 based short wheel base Jeep fighter. It would share suspension And frames with the truck but add a 2 and 4 door body with remove able roof and doors.
GMC has been fighting for a Jeep fighter and the Bronco May open the door and eyes of GM to do it.
I am well versed in the mid size GM trucks as I am presently an owner of one. It is a great package in a very fast growing segment even as it ages. Toryota still has a plastic interior no head room and no rear disc brakes. The Ford did not move things at all with poor ride and similar interior quality with expensive option prices. The Jeep truck is just way over priced and it has too, long of a wheel base and high sides easily which is unforgivable for a Jeep.
This is exactly how I feel about GM right now. I will not be needed a new vehicle for a few years, but when I do GM currently has nothing that appeals to me. The CT-4 is nice, but cost over 35k with delivery fees and lacks a hatchback. The Trailblazer lacks the oomph I’d be looking for in a daily driver. The Bolt has no problem keeping up with traffic, but my lifestyle is not conducive to an electric vehicle.
I really hope that GM brings production of the Trailblazer or VSS-F platform back to the states. That AWD platform with a modern four cylinder motor would be incredibly fun to daily and a great nod to SS four bangers of the past.
Might also note once EV gains more ground I can see them being cheaper to build and sell than a highly regulated ICE. Also performance with EV motors is easy to do. This could change what is available at lower prices.
The old formula of sticking a big engine in a base or economy cars just is not viable anymore. EV could change that.
Which side is the front?

Lebron James – the guy who is okay with Chinese labor building his shoes making a buck from it. Yeah, nice inclusive move GM – ignore the obvious.
Just in time for the upcoming for the US apocalypse.
Can you shut up already? Thanks.
Never! And especially not for you.
Just in time for the upcoming Yankee apocalypse.
I cannot wait to see this. We have to wait until Fall….come on GM
I didn’t like the slopping rear cabin look, i don’t like it on any truck, i think it makes trucks look softer and ugly as if it’s a unibody fake truck.
I also don’t think LeFraud James or in the same vein any NBA related person is the right choice for this product’s customer profile especially within this period which LB and NBA refuse to criticize China for their genocide of Uyghurs and other human right violations while they spew hate and declare war on white people of America.
