GM Launches The All-New Buick Envision S In China

General Motors has just launched the all-new Buick Envision S in the Chinese market, just one month after having officially announced it in the second half of June. The new-generation compact crossover further expands Buick’s extensive utility offering in the Asian country, where the standard model and range-topping Envision S Avenir variant are launched simultaneously. The nameplate also gains an Avenir trim for the first time.

In China, the second-generation Buick Envision carries the “S” suffix because it will be sold alongside the refreshed current-gen model to meet the diverse needs of customers in that market. As such, the Tri-Shield brand officially creates the Envision utility family, which will consist of the Envision, this new Envision S, and the upcoming three-row Envision GX, which GM Authority revealed in an exclusive report last month.

“The Envision S is a strong statement of Buick’s global SUV strength and technology leadership,” said Executive Director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM, Molly Peck, in a statement. “It is positioned at the heart of one of the largest market segments in China, offering sculptural styling, effortless power, enhanced connectivity and a package of sophisticated and premium appointments that define all Buick SUVs. It will delight the new generation of progressive car buyers now and in the future,” she added.

Based on the GM E2 platform that also underpins the Cadillac XT4, the 2021 Buick Envision S introduces a new interpretation of Buick’s crossover design language and reinforces the brand’s premium approach. The Chinese-market model offers a total of four distinct trim levels, including Elite, Luxury, Sport Edition and Avenir.

Additionally, the 2021 Envision S is the brand’s first model equipped with the new Buick eCloud electrical architecture – better known as GM Global B electronic architecture. This significant competitive advantage makes it capable of managing up to 4.5 terabytes of data per hour and supporting future software updates for major control systems, such as the latest infotainment system with a 10.2-inch touchscreen and multiple driver assists.

All versions of the 2021 Buick Envision S are equipped with the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 LSY engine, which offers 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque coupled to GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system is optional, which also features FlexRide technology with four driving modes: sport, comfort, AWD and off-road.

The all-new 2021 Buick Envision S and Envision S Avenir are already on sale in China, with a high level of standard equipment and state-of-the-art technologies such as the innovative Rear Camera Mirror, new head-up display and a high-resolution 360-degree Surround Vision Camera system. The new crossover is offered in eight body colors and three interior design combinations. Pricing are as follows:

• 2021 Buick Envision S Elite: 219,900 CNY (about $31,400 USD at the current exchange rate)
• 2021 Buick Envision S Luxury: 239,900 CNY ($34,260 USD)
• 2021 Buick Envision S Sport Edition: 259,900 CNY ($37,120 USD)
• 2021 Buick Envision S Avenir: 279,900 CNY ($39,975 USD)
