Back in the late 1970s, General Motors partnered up with RV company Chinook Mobilodge Inc. to produce the GMC Jimmy Casa Grande and the closely related Chevrolet K5 Blazer Chalet. These special-edition SUVs featured a custom fiberglass camper in the rear-end/bed, which popped up to create enough space for a 6-foot five human to stand upright. The Jimmy Casa Grande and Blazer Chalet offered all the same amenities as a regular camper or RV, but placed it on top of a rugged, go-anywhere platform fit for outdoorsman and adventurers.
One of these rare custom Chevrolet K5 Blazer Chalet campers recently popped up for sale via eBay Motors. A mint condition example that has been very well-kept over the years, the seller says the vehicle in question “runs great and was just purchased from an owner of 25 years plus.” The photos definitely back up his statements, showing a clean exterior with good paint, no rust and the very 1970s Jimmy Chalet factory exterior decals still intact. The seller says they also have the original Chevrolet Rally wheels that came with the vehicle for those who don’t like the look of the eight-hole off-road wheels.
As for the camper section, it looks ready for a trip into the wilderness with its well-kept upholstery and working sink, stove and fridge. The camper sleeps two in the convertible table/bed section and also comes with cots that can sleep two more people. Under the hood is a Chevrolet 400 cubic inch V8 engine, which is paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The seller rightly points out that the Blazer’s 4×4 system will help take adventurers where something like a VW Westfalia camper definitely could not.
This K5 Blazer Chalet has attracted $12,500 worth of bids on eBay motors as of this writing and has just over 9 hours of bidding remaining. Check out the listing here for some additional information and photos.
