2021 Corvette Shown In Brand New Red Mist Tintcoat Color

General Motors released all the official details on the 2021 Corvette and Corvette Convertible this week. The automaker has made some small changes to the vehicle’s catalog of available equipment for the new model year, including adding two new colors to its paint palette: Silver Flare Metallic and Red Mist Tintcoat.

While GM released a single photo showing the new Silver Flare Metallic color with this week’s announcement, an image of a Red Mist Tintcoat model was suspiciously absent. It has now uploaded a photo of a Red Mist Tintcoat example to its Instagram page, however, allowing us to get a sneak peek at the color that chief engineer Tadge Juechter dubbed one of the “most exciting new shades Corvette has ever introduced.”

Red Mist Tintcoat is, as expected, a much darker shade of red than Torch Red and has more of a metallic shine than the Long Beach Red Tintcoat color it replaces. From this single photo, we’d say Red Mist Tintcoat is almost a sort of candy red, giving off a radiant glow that is sure to turn heads.

As we reported previously, Juechter liked this color so much he ordered one for himself on his own Corvette. We think Juechter won’t be alone in his affinity for this color. Torch Red was the most popular color for the 2020 model year Corvette, so this shinier shade of red should be a hit with buyers as well. For the record, Torch Red is still available on the 2021 Corvette.

In addition to the two new exterior colors, the 2021 Corvette also received a new available interior color combination, Sky Cool Gray/Yellow Strike, along with additional exterior stripe color combos. New standard equipment is also on offer for 2021, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and GM’s new Buckle To Drive safety technology.

Pricing for the 2021 Corvette will start at $59,995 for the coupe and $67,495 for the convertible including destination.

  2. That red and the new dark silver are stunning. Might be my favourite red, prior to that, Mazda’s premium red paint was my favourite.

Saw a light blue (laguna blue?) C8 a few weeks ago, and saw a standard red (victory red?) yesterday with the high wing. The are fantastic looking vehicles even more to in person on the road

  7. Very nice, this will be my first choice but running out of patience

    1. I too am low on patience. I placed a deposit for 2020 convertible in December and I am told to reorder a 2021 when available.

  8. That very much reminds me of a color Pontiac had on 1976 Trans Ams called Firethorn Red.

    1. No, Firethorn Red was nothing like this color. I had a ’76 Trans-Am in Firethorn, and it was a brownish red, not a true red. This color is, as stated by a poster above, akin to the red on the most recent Mazdas.

  9. Why drop any color, just add two each year! No reason there can’t be 15 colors to choose from.

  10. I’d like to see a yellow with this kind of depth on the C8…similar to the Gen 5 Camaro Concept Yellow

    1. …or, maybe a bright metallic Lime Green, or the hot Purple, like the Barracudas and Challengers of the ’70s had. Porsche has been known for offering some wild colors, over the years. It would be nice if the Corvette offer more custom colors, even if they charged more for them.

  14. Just ordered the 2021 vert in red mist. The guy says I might not see it until 2022. They are only working 1 shift due to covid. They’ve spent so much money engineering this car for 2 years but aren’t selling any. They may skip the 2022 model year or just rebrand 2021 model as 2022 so they can catch up production he says. Everything so fukd up you guys.

    1. Just curious, how did you decide to pull the trigger and order the Red Mist without ever seeing it?

I want to order the Red Mist! But, I don’t like the current Long Beach Red color on the C8. But I “think” I will love the red mist. I’m not a fan of dark burgundy, but I love a theoretical Candy Apple Red with a lot of Metallic Flake and sparkle.

Do you have an opportunity to change your color, or options, up until a certain point in the waiting period?

What interior color, seatbelts and caliper colors are you going with? LT1 or LT2 or LT3

      Cheers!

      1. I don’t know if GM still has such a policy, but, once-upon-a-time they allowed buyers of ordered cars to make changes on most aspects of the car, within a certain time framework. Because it would typically take three to four weeks, if not slightly more, for a car to reach the drop-dead date for changes. So. if one wanted to change the color, or add or subtract ordered options, the dealer could go into the ordering system and make such changes. The buyer wouldn’t be able to make changes once the cut-off date passed.

If such a system is still in place, at GM, then it may be possible for any authorized GM dealer to make changes to any of its ordered stock cars for a customer that is looking for something specific, such as a less-than popular color that is offered by the sales division, but not usually stocked by a dealer, such as a brown, champagne, blue or green. and get the car within a shorter time frame than if the customer went to the dealer and ordered the car from scratch, since the car is already in the order system

This probably wouldn’t work with the current C8, due to the high demand and low production schedule. I doubt that any dealer these days has any unordered C8s on their lot, or, if it does, it may be the showroom display model for customers to inspect and try out before committing to a purchase

  15. One of my Corvettes (1999) had a beautiful color, Navy Blue Metallic. It looked different dependent on the light, bright metallic blue in sunlight and a dark purplish blue in the evening. Always loved that color.

  17. Hey! I saw more pics of red mist and especially because i want adrenaline red seats, i switched the order to Torch. I changed calipers to bright red from edge (better for red mist). Red seat belts. LT2. All in with Z51 i am scratching six figures. They let you change up to when they actually place the order and you give them 4K more. I only needed to put down a thousand bucks when i was there to buy a place in line. I bet i won’t see this car till 2022.
