We’re still a few months away from the launch of the 2021 Buick Envision but we’re already beginning to learn a lot of about this all-new premium compact crossover. GM Authority was the first to tell you all about the new Envision’s suspension and all wheel drive system, and we’re now back to outline the 2021 Buick Envision trim level structure.
A total of four trim levels will be on offer for the 2021 Buick Envision, including Envision (base), followed by Preferred, Essence and range-topping Avenir. In fact, it will be the very first time that the Avenir trim level will be available on a Buick Envision.

All trims come standard in front-wheel-drive, and all but the base trim offer all-wheel-drive as an option.
Trim | Envision (base) | Preferred | Essence | Avenir | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
PEG | 1SV* | 1SC | 1SL | 1SU | |
Drive Wheels | FWD only | FWD or AWD | FWD or AWD | FWD or AWD |
- * Not available with a Fleet or Government order type.
Sources tell us that initial ordering and launch will be focused around the top-most three trims.
Pricing for any of the 2021 Buick Envision trim levels is currently not available, but sources have told us to expect a starting price of $34,000 for the base model. Exact pricing figures will be announced closer to launch.
The all-new, 2021 Buick Envision rides on the GM E2 platform shared most directly with the first-generation Cadillac XT4. Power will come from the turbocharged 2.0L I-4 LSY engine making 230 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
The GM nine-speed automatic transmission will do shifting duty. GM has confirmed that the vehicle will be assembled at the Jinqiao plant in Shanghai, China for the Chinese domestic market, as well as for export to North America. The model is set to begin arriving on dealer lots some time in the beginning of the 2021 calendar year.
We’ll have a lot more about the new 2021 Buick Envision soon, so be sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more Buick Envision news, Buick news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.
Super attractive vehicle but a definite no go with engine!
And the fact it is built in China.
Why will the base model be priced so high? I know this will be slightly larger than the Volvo XC40 with more room, same warranty and better reliability, but they best get this one right and make the standard model very well equipped. Hoping this will be a hit for them.
Dear Dan, sorry, but you can not compare the New Buick Envision with Volvo XC40….you can compare with XC60..!! Just take a look on dimensions of the New Envision and you can understand that the real competitor is Volvo XC60. Also, the options in Volvo are prety expencieve, so you have to pay much higher end price for Volvo.
Here are the dimensions:

The positioning is interesting, but it will be a premium crossover C-segment premium entry. Envision will be a bit larger than traditional C-segment models, but priced right in line with other C-segment models (Q3, XC40, X1, GLA-Class, etc.). It will be smaller and less expensive than D-segment models (Q5, XC60, X3, GLC-Class, etc.).
They really should make these alongside the XT4 in the US.
The US and her allies are increasingly skeptical of China, and its highly likely that trade sanctions are coming soon. Consumers are going to shy away from Buicks that are made in China as they’ve done with the current gen Envision.
This does look like an impressive product otherwise, although it may be a little low on engine output. I would hate to see it handicapped by its manufacturing origin.
Will we be getting that red sporty version in the states?
Yes. That’s the Sport Touring (ST) model. More details on that model soon.
Thanks for the clarification Alex, you are doing great work , keep it up. Looking forward to more details on this model soon!
