The 2020 Corvette may produce “just” 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque from its 6.2L LT2 V8 engine, but it uses every single one of those ponies in a very efficient manner. With a sophisticated electronic traction control system and quick-shifting eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the eighth-generation Corvette can hustle from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and will complete the quarter-mile in roughly 11.22 seconds at 122 mph.
We know the 2020 Corvette is fast, but is it fast enough to hang with the beast that is the Dodge Challenger Demon? The Demon, for those readers who may not be aware, is essentially a road-legal factory stock NHRA drag car. With the right driver behind the wheel, race gas in the tank and all of its drag racing-oriented aids switched on, the 840 horsepower Demon can complete the quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds at a whopping 140 mph.
YouTube channel Throttle House recently pitted these two modern-day American masterpieces against each other in a drag race and a roll race to see just how they stack up. While the Demon would beat the 2020 Corvette handily on a drag strip, Throttle House performed its comparison on an un-prepped and fairly dusty runway. Additionally, their Demon was not equipped with the skinny front tires that come with the car and, more importantly, was running pump gas. While a Demon on race gas is good for a massive 840 horsepower, it makes a more tame 808 horsepower on pump fuel.
With those factors leveling the playing field, the 2020 Corvette just may have a fighting chance at hanging with the Demon in a straight line – even if it is still more than 300 horsepower down on the supercharged muscle coupe. Check out the video embedded below to see which of these domestics will come out on top.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is like the Corvette of yesteryear as there’s not enough weight over the rear wheels for perfect launch then there’s the efficiency of the 8-speed dual clutch transmission.
Demon vs Dbag……..😁🙃😁
The Corvette team has made a point to only put in as much power as you can put down.
This is only the entry level model not even close to what it can handle.
So as it is now the Dodge is as good as it gets now while the Vette will improve with each coming model.
It also will put handle and brake the Dodge as a complete package vs the Demon one trick pony deal.
Yeah this comparison isn’t even fair. I thought for a second maybe SRT Challengers might be like 20k less than the C8, but the SRT is way more expensive than I thought. Who in there right mind is buying Challenger SRT8’s at 70k+ anyways?
Yep & there we have it ladies & gents (I use the latter term loosely) the old adage of weight distribution once again proven true! That C8 is just unbelievably the greatest bargain since….well forever! Great job GM I truly didn’t expect you guys to actually get it right the 1st attempt! Now just imagine what the Z06 is gonna be like! Unimaginable!!!
