Back in June, Martin Barkey and his aftermarket exhaust company, MBRP, released its new four-inch cat-back exhaust system for the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD and 2020 GMC Sierra HD. The aftermarket exhaust kit, which is for the 6.6L L8T-equipped Silverado HD and Sierra HD, gives General Motors‘ heavy duty full-size pickups a meaner, more defined exhaust note – and now the company has released an equivalent kit for the light-duty 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and Sierra.
MBRP’s new three-inch cat-back exhaust for the Silverado and Sierra was designed with the 6.2L L87 V8 engine in mind. As the company puts it, buyers who elected to get the more powerful 6.2L V8 did so because they wanted the superior engine – so why do they sound the same from the factory? MBRP says it’s helping 6.2L Silverado and Sierra owners “find their voice,” with its new three-inch kit.
MBRP’s three-inch exhaust kit attaches from the y-pipe forward and includes a straight three-inch exhaust pipe that feeds into a high-flow muffler. From here, the pipes split into a dual-exhaust setup, which then dumps right into the factory metal exhaust tips. The exhaust kit is also available in T304 stainless steel or, for those on a tighter budget, aluminized steel.
MBRP demonstrated its new three-inch cat-back exhaust for the 6.2L L87-equipped Silverado and Sierra in a recent video posted to its YouTube channel. In the video, Barkey demonstrates how the upgraded aftermarket exhaust sounds from both the exterior and the interior and how it sounds at partial throttle and with the taps wide open. The exhaust is also demonstrated on a bone stock 2019 Silverado with the 6.2L V8 and with the AFM enabled. Check it out embedded just below.
