General Motors has released official details on the changes that will be applied to the 2021 Cadillac XT6 luxury crossover.
The most significant change coming for the 2021 Cadillac XT6 is the addition of the new entry-level Luxury trim level. The 2020 model year XT6 was only offered in Premium Luxury or Sport trims, but for 2021, the crossover will follow the full Cadillac Y-trim level strategy. As such, the Luxury trim will serve as the base model, with the trims branching out from there to include the opulent Premium Luxury and performance-inspired Sport models.
Cadillac’s turbocharged 2.0L LSY four-cylinder engine serves as the base engine in Luxury models and produces 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The turbo 2.0L is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive, with AWD available for extra. The 3.6L LGX V6 engine, which produces 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque, also remains available in the crossover for 2021.
Standard equipment on the 2021 Cadillac XT6 Luxury includes 18-inch wheels, an 8-inch touch screen, Jet Black leatherette upholstery, brushed aluminum trim, heated front seats, a six-way power driver’s seat, heated outside mirrors, a power tailgate, tri-zone climate control and interior ambient lighting, among more.
Additionally, the latest Apple CarPlay2 and Android Auto 3 systems, which enable wireless connectivity, are standard on all three 2021 Cadillac XT6 trim levels. There is also a new 20-inch wheel design for Sport models and three new exterior colors in the way of Dark Moon Blue Metallic, Wilder and Infrared Tintcoat.
Ensuring the XT6 nameplate retains its IIHS Top Safety Pick+ status it achieved this year, the entry-level Luxury trim comes standard with a bevy of driver assistance technology including Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, HD Rear Vision Camera, IntelliBeam, Front and Rear Park Assist and Safety Alert Seat. Optional safety add-ons include HD Surround Vision, Automatic Reverse Braking, Rear Camera Mirror and Night Vision.
Pricing for the 2021 Cadillac XT6 Luxury with the 2.0L LSY four-cylinder engine will start at $48,995 when the crossover arrives at dealers this fall.

Hey GM we said more power not less…., did they not read the latest Car & Driver review of the XT5 with the 2.0L.
This was probably in the works way before C&D tested the XT5 2.0T. That said, I agree, MORE power not less!
This vehicle just keeps getting more pathetic… a $50K Cadillac with a 4 cyl engine…. Is this supposed to bring the customers flocking in? I’m sure I’ll hear “oh well the Germans do it” but the German 4’s are smoother but also the Germans “have” the cache that GM and Cadillac does not. Cadillac needs to give more value to attract new buyers. Some will say “luxury buyers” are not value conscious, and we know that is bogus. Everyone buys the most and best they can afford. Some Luxury brand provide a given on content. One who buys a Bentley Flying Spur gets Bentley, an S Class buyer exchanges money for THE luxury standards. This vehicle is a barely nicer Acadia, heck as slightly larger XT5.
GM stock has never gotten over its issue price from 10 years ago, (maybe 1 time?) and they continue to lose market share, they continue to field noncompetitive vehicles and are exiting markets and market segments… BUT they do have a new “diversity board”… pathetic to think someone this incompetent can keep a job… its the sign of the times as PC is all that matters….
I really thought this was only going to be Chinese model now we have proof.
Everything on the market has a 4 cyl option now. Everything except the upper tier stuff from the big brands.
At what point does the 2.7 turbo replace the 3.6? That is the real question. That and when does GM dump GMC and Buick? Why would I buy an expensive Cadillac when I can buy the same vehicle cheaper as a Buick? Cheaper as a GMC? Cheaper as a Chevrolet? I’m sorry people but a fwd car is just a fwd car no matter how much leather and auto drive myself tech.
The honest answer is status. Even though Cadillac has taken a beating from it’s heights way back when, it’s still a status symbol while a Buick is viewed more as what you settle for if you can’t afford a Cadillac. (obviously regardless of your actual wealth you can drive whatever you like!)
At what point will the 3.0 take over for Cadillac for the 3.6 is the better question.
Heck even the Rest of GM Brands need a Detuned version of the 3.0 soon. The 3.6 has been around for a while.
where the hell is the 400 Hp Turbo V6 from the XTS?
Bravo…. GM is killing Cadillac… literally ruining the brand. What does Cadillac stand for…. I mean seriously. There are zero reasons for anyone to “RUN” to a Cadillac dealer in 3 years to plunk down $200,000. for a yet to be seen or reviewed Celestikon… GM cant build cars people “gotta have” (Vette is exception) so why do they deliriously think the EV’s will be hits? Also the Audi eTron Gen II is out next year so GM’s EV’s had better be cutting edge…
Also there is an article here on the CT4-V and no one has addressed the fact that the cramped rear seat as on the ATS, is still an issue. Yet GM sold the ATS-L in China with slightly longer wheelbase and bigger back seat. WHY is that model not the platform for this CT4? Seems they just don’t give a rat…. but they change marketing by saying its competition for the 2 Series vs 3, A-Class vs C Class and A3 vs A4 and that changes “everything??”…. it changes nothing..
No one addresses the cramped rear seat because buyers of the ATS/CT4 don’t care about rear seat room. If they did they’d buy a CTS/CT5.
Thats one of the dumbest comments here… I had an ATS 3.6 Premium… not a bad car but terribly cramped rear seat…. why not just use the stretched version and fix the issue….
The CTS was also criticized for its rear seat room…. not sure whether the 5 is bigger but I dont think so…
I mean there’s no reason to call the comment dumb lol. I had an ATS and I wasn’t happy with the size so I upgraded to the CTS. And to answer your speculation, yes the CT5 is bigger on the inside, longer wheelbase than the CTS. The CT5 has 2.5 more inches of leg room, headroom was better too but I can’t remember the number.
Whats dumb is to simply assume folks who find the 4’s rear cramped will spring to the 5. I seriously doubt that will happen as the price point is too high. That said my back seat was used probably 5X in the 3 years I had it, it wasn’t a biggie to me. But it was resoundingly criticized, so one wonders why GM didn’t address it… that’s all… because they’re incompetent morons…
You don’t make any sense though, small cars have small back seats, its expected. The 3 series has the same issue. The price difference between the ct4 and ct5 is 4000$, that hardly prices it out of consideration for most people. Why would they “just make it longer” like you said? People who want bigger, buy the bigger car! I’d understand your point if there was no other option than the ct4 in their catalog, but there is! They’d be cannibalizing their own products if they thought like you, thank goodness they don’t or they’d be in even worse shape than they are.
The most uninspiring Cadillac ever, Jet Black leatherette… blah, blah, blah. This is embarrassing.
How about that 400 hp Lincoln Nautilus, with more than two interior colors though?
3.0 turbo
@Kirt
Exactly
Cadillac better bring it with their upcoming EV’s because these current Cars are borderline embarrassing for a Luxury Maker. I mean the Kia Telluride has a more Luxurious Interior than this vehicle. This is completely unacceptable. The upcoming EV’s are their last ditch effort.
I would caution anyone from developing high expectations for the Cadillac EVs as it relates to anticipating a world class interior or overall package. As they say, a leopard doesn’t change their spots and I think we’ve all watched GM for a long time and awaited the launch of a future product with great expectation only to be underwhelmed.
For me the CT6 was just a massive letdown given the hype about the Bentley-rivaling interior and it’s cancellation was equally sad but it was only one of many GM disappointments. The new Johan dy Nysschen era CT4 and CT5 were, I thought, going to usher in a higher level product for Cadillac born out of the former South African’s tenure at the helm. Instead I think they regressed. XT4 is a sad little creature too that is more aligned with Cimarron than any of the great Cadillacs of the past. The new Escalade? Is anyone really wowed there? Nice interior but the exterior is a step back and under the hood, there’s no news. GM spent too much on IRS to do a mighty Blackwing heart. What? Yes, they actually said that about a thinly disguised Chevy Tahoe with a $30,000 markup.
So the EVs will likely keep the nice enough pattern going so expect battery versions of the frumpy Mary Barra Midwestern vehicles we have today. Yes they’ll be advanced for GM. The nicest Cadillac interior ever maybe but world class or game changing isn’t something GM does anymore.
There was a time when Cadillac was daring and pushed the future. It could even be said that they ‘Dared Greatly’ but those days ended 40 years ago. None of us should expect miracles from the EV Caddy’s. I’m certainly not setting myself up for that kind of fall again.
There is nothing to disagree with here … 100% agree….
@Ci2Eye
I would have loved to seen what Johan could have done if he was given complete authority and the Beancounters were not involved. Cadillac definitely needs World Class Tech and Interiors on the upcoming EV’s or it really will be pretty much Game Over for them.
When you can’t afford a full size Cadillac Escalade, you buy a XT6 as it offers almost everything of the smaller XT6 in a slightly larger platform.
Regardless of trim or color, it still looks like a toaster.
Literally every review has stated that it’s a good vehicle that is down on power. GM responded to these reviews by…. adding a lower power option? I genuinely don’t understand the strategy here. Cadillac killed it with the new CT4/CT5/Escalade. Why are they letting their crossovers, which are their bread and butter offerings, fall behind?
If GM “killed it” with CT4 and CT5, they would be flying out of the showrooms with a wait list to get one. Is that happening? I don’t think Cadillac has “killed it” on anything in 40 years.
Was thinking by “killed it” he really meant killed it with those offerings that are nothing short of just rental car status.
Spoken like people who’ve never driven one. The CT5 is a great offering.
Actually I have driven all current variations available of XT6 , XT4 and not to mention the CT5-V and CT4-V so I beg to differ. Now the CT6-V, that is a great car just way to big for my taste.
Just by your statement, you care more about power than anything else. Most luxury buyers do not. Myself included.
Myself included I want both luxury and power. If I’m paying a premium then I expect to get pretty much what I paid for. Cadillac wants to charge premium prices yet offer nothing I couldn’t get at another GM dealership for less money. When you open the door of any Cadillac today outside of the Escalade where is the luxury you speak of?
I don’t expect luxury and power for a 40k price tag. There will be a compromise at that dollar value. I don’t understand what you’re talking about, the CT5 has soft leather, comfortable highly adjustable seats, all the creature comforts you could want, a whisper quiet ride, does it have some plastics? Of course but so do the competing offerings from the germans.
Agreed having both a Cadillac and a BMW currently, I compare the differences daily hence why I comment on the expectation in terms of pricing for the term luxury. I like them both and I do have issues with both in terms of what they offer for the price. If GM had a midsize suv that offered me the power and luxury that the Germans do I would have bought it.
So in the real estate world, they say a house must have something called curb appeal. It must look nice from the street and be inviting. It has to draw people in so that its assets can be seen if it ever has a chance of being sold. Getting buyers off the street and into the property is essential to selling homes. Likewise, a car that drives nice isn’t going to sell unless it has a compelling look to draw folks in and get them behind the wheel. The CT5 is awkward looking outside with its poorly rendered C-pillar and peering into the windows reveals an interior that’s nothing special and usually cast in all-black. It may drive great but nobody will ever open its door because of all the ways GM missed the mark on the presentation.
That’s all subjective my friend. I love the look of the CT5, I think it looks better than the old CTS. And that C pillar design looks way better if you tint the rear windows. The interior is gorgeous when it’s not jet black but I feel that way about 99% of car interiors, black is uninspiring. I bought the maple sugar option with the open pore wood and it looks great.
CT5 is a decent car. I would not pick it over the A4 or the 3 Series but I would however chose it over the very aging C Class. But a Brand New one is coming. Then you have the Tesla Model 3 so at best the CT5 is in Fourth Place right now in the Segment but most likely in Fifth when the new C Class comes out. Than it depends what you think of the Alfa Romeo. I personalty love them and would chose one over the CT5 in a heartbeat and I am a GM fan. That is what Cadillac has provided us with the First ever and most likely last ever CT5.
We need to start demanding much more from Cadillac and GM!!!
I think everyone is getting too excited here. The “first ever” XT6 has class-exclusive Galvano trim on the PL version. Pretty much nobody else has it! When folks say Cadillac doesn’t lead the industry, I’m sure Mary Barra would point them to the lovely matte chrome Galvano trim as an example of the class-leading things she and her team put into their “first ever” three- row, FWD XT6 PL.
Thing is this is likely the “last ever” XT6 as well… GM is lost and is ruining Cadillac….
Wilder. Is that green?
Tell me how is this Cadillac more luxurious than some Kia?
When will the XT6 be available with Super Cruise. I’m waiting for Super Cruise to trade in my XT5. Thank you.
