Range-Topping 2021 Buick Envision Avenir Revealed

GM’s Buick stunned the world when it revealed the all-new 2021 Buick Envision in a surprise announcement at the end of May. At that time, the Tri Shield brand released only a handful of photos of the completely-redesigned vehicle in what we believe to be the Essence trim level, while also announcing that the crossover will also be available in the range-topping Avenir trim level, a first for the Envision nameplate. However, no photos or images of the Envision Avenir were shown until today, when GM revealed the 2021 Buick Envision Avenir in China.
The Buick Envision Avenir features a unique signature mesh grille and a unique set of wheels. The wheel well trim is replaced from the gray-black plastic to a body-color version.
In addition, the Avenir trim will also feature exclusive colors and some unique interior trim and materials.
Known during its development phase as Buick Enspire, the all-new 2021 Buick Envision is based on the same variant of the E2 platform as the Cadillac XT4. The vehicle was conceived and developed as a more premium offering than the first-generation Envision. Its exterior design and proportions are noticeably more refined, something that’s further highlighted by the introduction of the range-topping Avenir trim level.
Power for the 2021 Buick Envision and the Envision Avenir will come from a turbocharged 2.0L I-4 LSY engine rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It will be mated to the latest GM nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive will be standard, while all-wheel-drive will be an option.
2021 Envision production will continue taking place at the SAIC-GM Jinqiao South plant in China for both North America and China.
In China, the E2-based Envision will be called Envision S, creating a family of Envision vehicles. We’ll have more on that shortly, so be sure to subscribe to GM Authority for the latest Buick Envision news, Buick news and ongoing GM news coverage.
Beautiful, premium, lux….urban modern hot! Gimme a nice deep green color and an American factory to build ‘em in.
I think replacing some of the chrome interior and exterior with a brushed or satin bronze would’ve looked really sharp. Especially against that red paint.
We’ve all seen the addition of Chrome accents used to give the impression of luxury to a vehicle and while it may work in China, it’s anyone’s guess as whether this will work in the US market because American buyers enjoy looking through the accessories to see whether there are any additional components.
Chrome is a staple of American luxury too. Personally I hate it. Some chrome accents are good, slabs of chrome is just gaudy. Especially on trucks. I’ll take the look of a color matched RST over an LTZ, at least High Country has it figured out.
Chrome appearance packs are just a hot ticket item, why!?!?
Made in China…….. leave them in China!
Then DT, do the same with your computer, phone, tv, microwave, most of your fridge, stove, washer and dryer components, the tires on any one of your vehicles, what else should I name?
Shirt, pants, shoes, and probably the red hat on his head?? haha.
There are PLENTY of NON Chinese clothing options available to all Americans as well as many other products. You have to be out of your bloody mind to buy anything “made in China” with their recent record of defiance & world domination. Has anyone in that big ugly Ivory Tower in Detroit done a friggin marketing survey of late???? #BoycottChina : #Covid19 #Wuhanvirus #WHOpropaganda #HongKongtakeover #NorthKorea #Iran #SouthChinaSea #shipdefectivePPEaroundtheworld #holdcriticaldrugshostage #infiltrateUSACollegeresearchprograms #stealIntellectualproperty #Huawei #unfairtrade #Indiatroopsborderkilling how much more do you need America????
….there are many things still made in the USA….but if you like ,…I’ll get you a damn boat ticket to China …..one condition…….STAY THERE!
John, Michael and others. I have several questions for you that I’d appreciate if you would answer honestly and politely. And please note (as you can easily find by reading my many other posts on here) that I am certainly pro-buy-American. However, there must be a reality check here. Questions:
1. Do you own a cell phone? If yes, what brand? Have you checked to see where it’s made?
2. Do you own a computer/laptop? What brand? Where was it made?
3. Do you own a TV? Brand? Made where?
4. What bank do you use? Where is that bank backed?
I could go on, but you know what I’m asking. So unless you are able to find ONLY American brands that are assembled here AND you are willing to pay a lot more to have it, then I’d suggest you reconsider your rather abrasive posts.
But my cell phone, computer, and TV does not cost $40,000.
Considering the economic and human devastation that China unleashed in this country and the world, I cannot see anyone wanting to spend $40K on a Chinese vehicle.
No reason why this vehicle can’t be built next to the XT4 in Fairfax. If GM cannot build here keep the Invasion in China where it belongs. Another GM division ruined by management!
This (from the images I see) is the best looking CUV that GM has shown or is being sold as of right now.
The Interior will tell us if GM has truly turned the corner or not.
Have you been under a rock these past few years? They turned the corner a decade ago… this car is just icing on the cake.
gm has turned so many corners they are back where they started.
GM has by miles the absolute worst Interior Materials in each respective Segment they compete in. They might be two Generations back in the Interior Department.
Munro and associates literally were laughing out loud when comparing the Ram, Ford, and Chevy High end 1500 Interiors. And the Ford F-150 is like 100 year sold already.
The C8, Escalade, and Tahoe are a good first step but the Beancounters within GM still couldn’t allow themselves to go All In on interiors as the NON Denali Yukon shares their interiors with the Tahoe.
@Momolos: I must disagree. I have two Buick’s and they (2006 and 2018) and the interiors are superior to anything from Toyota or Honda. I work at a Volvo and Mazda store. Although Volvo has quite nice interiors, the Mazda not so much. They look good but don’t seem to hold up well. I’ve sold numerous brand over the years and have owned many cars (GM, Ford, Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge, MB, Jaguar, and Kia) and GM interiors are better than most.
Yeah, this on looks s though it will give the Lincoln Nautilus SUV a run for its money.
@Dan Berning
Buick interiors are probably best in the GM Family as the Cadillac interiors are seriously lacking in the Tier One Luxury Segment. We all know that Opel pretty much was in charge of Buick hence the nicer interiors but lets not forget that Opel versions were much better equipped overall. I mean you couldn’t even get Cooled seats on the Regal unless you got the GS. How does that even make any sense? Not in the so called Fully loaded Avenir that you are trying to bring to Denali level but the GS. In Europe you could get them in the Upper Middle trims.
Having said that though, Buick better have nicer interiors than Toyota or Honda. That is Chevy Segment NOT Buick.
I have no idea how you feel that Mazda interiors (which are considered a segment above in quality) is not muuuuuuuch better than Chevrolet Interiors.
As far as FCA is concerned, their new Products have nice interiors but the issue is they still have Product that is 10 years old. and lots of them.
There is a reason FCA had to merge (Basically taken over) with The PSA Group.
I am not directly in the Auto Industry but for whatever reason I assist in the Field a lot and I am telling you that other than GM fans, all others feel GM Interiors are a borderline Disgrace for their respected Segment.
I always try to get people in GM cars but most always cannot get passed the interiors. I know of at least 5 NON Tesla buying EV Customers and two of them litteraly started laughing when they saw the interior.
Going forward two things will sell cars in my opinion. Tech/software and interiors.
I agree 100%
Momolos, I may not have been clear in my post. I wasn’t trying to directly compare the Buick’s with Toy/Hon interiors. Guess I was trying to say that my experience with Buick (going way back) is that they have much better interiors. But I was thinking more that you were talking about “GM” overall and I was speaking about GM in general over the other brands. My bad.
As for Mazda, I’m going by personal experience with over 4 years now of selling them. Although they look nice to start, they do not hold up over time. I see many from the 2004 up to used 2019’s that have cheap plastics breaking. Colors fading. Trim pieces just falling off. Foam strips between the dash and windshield coming out (a lot), very cheap carpet, and so on. Just because they design something that looks good in a review and to the normal person’s eye, doesn’t mean it’s quality or will last. One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is 2 or 3 or 4 year old Mazda’s with leather seats that have hardened and warped. They become very hard and the seams pull apart. This has to be one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen. Yet my 2006 Buick Lucerne leather seats look like brand new with 162K on the odo.
I’ll take any GM interior over many out there outside of Volvo, BMW, Bently, RR and other very high priced brands.
I would place Chevrolet near the bottom on all of the segments they compete in. I think the new Tahoe and C8 prove that GM can and hopefully will start making better Chevy interiors. I like Buick interiors as well. GMC is ok at best for the money you spend and Cadillac needs a lot of work if they will get back to Tier One Luxury.
But man does Chevy need a huge overhaul in the interior department. So much black hard plastic everywhere. Sandy Monroe who is very well respected in the Business almost laughed when he compared the Silverado interior to the OLD F 150 and especially the Ram 1500.
Got ya on that. I’ve had several Chevy’s in the past 6 years, and none of them seemed bad to me (2012 Sonic, 2014 Spark, 2015 Spark Electric, 2014 Malibu). Now, none were as nice as my 2006 Lucerne, but not much is. That car has such a fantastic interior, in terms of materials, fit and finish, colors and comfort! None of the Chevy’s were quite as good as my 2018 Encore either, but the 2014 Malibu was close. As for the Sonic and Sparks, they were nothing close to the Buick, but they were on par with the other cars in their class or even just a little better.
Now when it comes to GM trucks? I’m totally on board with you! For years I’ve hated them and feel they need a lot of work. However, I really haven’t like the Ford, Toyota, or Nissan truck interiors either. The last truck I’ve owned was a 2005 Dodge Ram and the interior was way better (IMO) than the rest. Now move up to 2015 through 2020’s, and the Ram is way better.
But I can’t agree with you 100% on Cadillac. Do I feel they could improve in some areas? Yes. But I can’t say they are junk either. So much of it comes down to the colors and woods they use. Take the 2014-2019 CTS: with the right interior colors and wood trim, I think that car was as good or better than most in that class. However, go to the ATS in base form in black, and they fall way short. Cadillac’s should all have real wood trim on the dash, doors and console other than the top sport models. They should have high quality metals and/or carbon fiber.
I never said that Cadillac interiors are junk. I just said they are not anywhere near the level of materials and Tech when compared to the Big Three Germans. Cadillac has a lot of work to do but the new Slade interior is a great start. Looks Class leading. Although I will say that even in the Slade that Shifter is just cheap looking.
right … there must be more to the avenir trim than a different grill and wheel trim.
I heard they were going to call it the Buick Park Avenir but the name was voted down…
Some extremist Muslim guy sings a variation of an old Buick jingle: “The great, Sharia road, belongs to Buick…” then shouts “Alihu Ackbar! And if you don’t like it – OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!!!”
Built in China? Like there aren’t ENOUGH spying products from there already, you think this won’t have any built in?? Naive?
Yeah I’m sure China is just dying to spy on the typical soccer mom and her kids as they drive to the mall to buy Chinese products lol.
People are more concerned about where this vehicle is built than they are the quality and design of the actual product. This site is full of crybabies that always find something to complain about. Aren’t there anyone doing maintenance around here to block some of these trolling negative Nancies? Yuck!
Buick knocked this out of the park, almost. The only thing is I’d love to have the option of a more powerful engine. This looks really dang good! Can’t wait to see more on the Avenir.
GM keeps shooting itself in the foot by offering under powered vehicles.
Underpowered? Have you driven one. It does 0-60 in under 7 seconds. How fast does a family SUV need to be. My 2016 does it in close to 6 seconds (different engine). It’s not a Camaro adn it’s not built to tow heavy loads.
What a gorgeous crossover. Can’t wait to see the Envision GX. Buick looks to have hit it out of the park for the first time in a long time.
“What a gorgeous crossover. Can’t wait to see the Envision GX. Buick looks to have hit it out of the park for the first time in a long time.”
Oh yeah hit it out of the park with a four-cylinder engine – for sure
Seriously, go buy a muscle car and stop commenting on things you’ll never buy.
At least for the US market they could have used the 2.7 L turbo 4-cylinder
SO— is good looking BUT SO WHAT it is not built in the USA and we don’t want it imported but yet your talking about interior chrome . If I was built here and available too buy I would buy one But the idiots operating GM don’t want me to buy a Buick sedan ,they want us all in suvs HEY LISTEN ALL CUSTOMERS DON’T WANT SUV’S
Very nice and I like it that the daytime running lights are along the same visual plane as the wings on the grill. If what your spy photos from last year is what we can expect of the interior, it should have a very innovative design with a 10 inch infotainment screen canted towards the driver like in the new Corvette and an electronic gear shift. I’m really liking what I see so far and I’m glad I waited for it to be launched.
You can have your product made in America, inexpensive, or reliable BUT you can only have one of the three.
4’s troll bots are busy even here.
Will it be as overpriced as the current model?
