NFL Wide Receiver Crashes Camaro Into Lake, Gets Dropped By Team

An NFL wide receiver was dropped by his team this week after he was charged with DUI for crashing his fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro into a lake in Put-In-Bay, Ohio.

Jermiah Braswell, 23, was picked up by the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent shortly after the 2020 NFL draft. Unfortunately for him, though, his time in the big leagues was over before it even began. According to the Put-In-Bay Police, Braswell was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro when it veered off the road, drove off a grass embankment and landed in Lake Erie.

When police arrived on the scene, they approached the orange Camaro and found Braswell “was still in the driver’s seat trying to drive forward.” He allegedly told officers that he was “stuck” and didn’t know how his vehicle had landed in the water. Police then noticed his speech was slurred and administered a breathalyzer test. Braswell was found to be over Ohio’s legal blood alcohol content limit for operating a motor vehicle and was subsequently placed under arrest.

Photos of the scene show Braswell’s Chevrolet Camaro, which appears to be outfitted with large aftermarket wheels, sitting stranded near the shore of Lake Erie with rather significant front and rear-end damage. The airbag appears to have also gone off in the crash.

Braswell previously played football for Youngstown State and racked up 11 touchdowns with 986 yards in 40 games over four seasons with the school. Not surprisingly, the Cardinals have now elected to drop Braswell from the team, though he wasn’t guaranteed to make the roster this season.

Thankfully this was a single-vehicle crash and no one, Braswell included, was hurt in the accident. Put-In-Bay is a popular destination for tourists and vacationers this time of year, so it’s a relief that no pedestrians, cars or golf carts were collected by Braswell’s speeding, out-of-control Camaro.

  3. Fire people for everything now. Like people never make mistakes. Also would be nice if media reported on the facts. Like after market wheels are pertinent to the story or the what if there had been injured pedestrians or other damage. Are we going to punish people for the what is now.

    1. DUI’s are not taken lightly as they are serious crimes and put others in danger. Many companies have a no tolerance policy for DUI, especially when this kid has never even played a down for the team and was not guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster. He was expendable. They have many other receivers on the roster that do not break the law and drive drunk.

  8. Rather than knee-jerk reaction from team management, as well as the media and public, shouldn’t he be afforded his Constitutional right to be PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY? I have been practicing law, primarily criminal law, for over 50 years. I attended the National College for DWI Defense at Harvard University, and learned how often not guilty persons are convicted by jurors who believe no one who has anything to drink should drive. That IS NOT THE LAW! The general public has no idea how many erroneous results are produced by BOTH breath testing as well as blood testing! Jurors job is to protect this from becoming a “police state” where you, your family, neighbors, are presumed guilty if they are arrested. There can be no “maybe, “probably”, or “ought to be” when dealing with any person’s life or liberty. PROOF of Guilt is BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT! What is a “reasonable doubt is hard to define, but it is beyond the amount of evidence required for the State or Federal government to take and remove your children from you and place in foster care or otherwise. You parents, how much evidence would you require before the government TOOK YOUR CHILDREN? Quit listening to Media Buzz Words designed your appeal to your reactions without facts to back those words up! YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF, THE COMMUNITY, YOUR CONSTITUTION, and YOUR BILL OF RIGHTS! THIS IS AMERICA! BE PROUD OF WHAT WE STAND FOR!

    1. He got drunk off his a$$ and crashed his car. Its as simple as that. Not even an attorney trained at Harvard Law School can spin that any other way.

    2. You could have stopped at “I attended Harvard University”. Liberal college, high tuition while sitting on a large endowment. Paid Pocahontas Warren over $350,000 a year to teach one class. 99% of people arrested for drunk driving are guilty. Working to get people off just makes you an enabler putting the rest of us in danger.

  12. He is young and made a mistake. Thank God nobody was injured. Arizona should have stood by the young man. Too easy these days to just to bail on these young men. This could have been a great learning moment for all involved. Look at Tyrann Mathieu.

    LMOA!!!
If you can’t count on him to not drive impaired and keep his car out of deep water, can you really count on him to know his multiple assignments on offense?
Right now I believe the answer is no.
The Arizona Cardinals apparently think the same.

  21. Too bad the Cardinals organization isn’t interested in helping this young man. Alcoholism is a serious problem for so many people who don’t realize it and need help. If he’s still in the car telling officers he’s stuck, there’s a problem.

  28. He should not be kicked off the team for a DUI. O many other players have been arrested for some realy bad mistakes and they are still on the NFL pay roll. He needs to prove now that he can be responsible and a good leader. LET OTHERS KNOW DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE PUTS MANY LIFES IN DANGER
