How To Remove The 2020 Corvette Roof Panel And Use The Convertible Top: Video

With the brand-new naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 mounted just behind the cabin, the 2020 Corvette aims to thrill. Making the driving experience even more exciting is the option for unlimited headroom, which is achieved by either removing the roof panel on Coupe models, or lowering the retractable hardtop on Convertible models. Now, Chevrolet is outlining the operation of both features in the following Corvette Academy video.

The video opens by discussing what it takes to remove the 2020 Corvette Coupe roof panel. First, make sure the windows are down, then park the car and turn it off. Then lower the sun visors and open the rear hatch. Clear any items that may be in the hatch panel storage area in the back. Go into the cabin and release the two roof handles located near the sun visors, and the single handle in the rear of the roof. This will free the 2020 Corvette Coupe roof panel, allowing it to be stored in the rear hatch. To reinstall the panel, simply follow the same steps, but in reverse.

The video also details operation of the retractable hardtop on the 2020 Corvette Convertible. After ensuring that there’s nothing in the trunk that may obstruct the top, start the car, or put it in accessory mode. Chevy recommends operating the Convertible top with the vehicle stopped, but it is also operable at speeds below 30 mph. What’s more, the top can be opened using the remote key, although it cannot be closed using the key.

Pressing the appropriate button on the armrest control panel will activate the top’s folding feature, lowering the windows and lifting the rear hatch. An audible chime will indicate that the feature has been activated. Closing the top requires the same process.

  1. If your C8 is not a daily driver, then a convertible is the only way to go.

  2. The hardtop Convertible is a giant step forward. My 2013 Porsche has active cruise control in a Carerra 911 4S and it is great for freeway driving as it maintains the distance between vehicles. Please add it as an option.

  3. First make sure the windows are down. Then park the car. That sounds dangerous what if somebody parks the car first and then lowers the windows.

The resulting Mayham will not be covered under warranty.

  4. I am looking forward to buying a convertible. Yes, there is more expense with the convertible, but it does better with wind currents than the coupe. Also, the convertible, to me, is a more beautiful car than the coupe. Both are gorgeous vehicles. I am lucky to be able to buy one.
