General Motors’ Rear Camera Mirror technology provides a high-resolution video feed of what’s directly behind the vehicle, streaming the video to a display in the rearview mirror. Introduced in 2014, every 2020 model year Cadillac on sale today offers the feature, except for the 2020 Cadillac CT4.
This is particularly surprising when considering that the CT4’s crossover stablemate, namely the Cadillac XT4, does offer the Rear Camera Mirror feature.
The benefits of this feature are many, and include enhanced rear visibility that circumvents any possible visual obstruction inside the cabin, such as rear-seated passengers, structural pillars, or headrests. The technology also provides a wider field of view than a standard rearview mirror. For those users that prefer a traditional rearview mirror, the function can be switched off as desired.
However, the 2020 Cadillac CT4 does not offer the Rear Camera Mirror on any trim, not even as an optional extra. The reasoning behind this is unclear. That said, the base-level Cadillac CT4 Luxury trim does come equipped with a manual day/night mirror, which allows drivers to manually switch between day and night mode. Higher in the CT4 line, we find an auto-dimming mirror for Sport, Premium Luxury, and CT4-V trim levels.
Furthermore, the Cadillac CT4 comes with a high-definition Rear Vision Camera as standard across the line, falling in step with the rest of the 2020 Cadillac stable.
The Rear Camera Mirror should not be confused with the Rear Vision Camera (also known as a backup camera), as they are different systems using different cameras. Cadillacs equipped with both the Rear Vision Camera and Rear Camera Mirror actually come with two rear-facing camera lenses to make both systems work.
All told, we would certainly like to see this feature make it to future Cadillac CT4 models, at least as an available option.

Now I understand the importance of enhancing safety features to a vehicle which falls into Common Since 101, If one can’t back up a damn car without heavily relying on a camera to make that happen…….
It is not just about backing up! It is also about knowing what is going on behind you! One quick glance in this mirror is just or more effective than two glances in the side view mirrors.
The expanded field of vision is invaluable especially on multi-lane highways.
This is a fantastic innovation, as contrasted to power consoles, and should be standard on all vehicles, or at least optional by all manufacturers!
Just another critical error by General Motors CEO Mary Barra who is prone to making stupid mistakes like this and hopefully be changed in the Cadillac CT4’s second production year.
Crikey, mate. What do you think her role actually is? Overseeing which rear view mirror goes into every model across each brand? Not everything is the result of Mary Barra. Give it a rest.
omegatalon thinks that whenever anything goes wrong it’s always the fault of Mary Barra or of any another woman working in GM and if the company does something good, it’s because some hyper masculine guy (who’s primary diet consists of steak and beer) made it so just by thinking about it.
OR leadership counts and GM is rudderless… the company is not progressing, its retracting. No launch has been successful except the Vette. Cadillac remains confused and messy and they’re spending $20B on EV’s which is risky. They are not gaining market share they are not growing their business and making it better. She’s had 10 years and inherited a company with a clear balance sheet… what has she done with it? GM is not in great shape… its her fault because she’s the CEO not because she’s a she…
Only a coward insinuates ones comments are biased or prejudiced and it probably reveals more about the person doing the criticizing.
Only a coward consistently comes on to GMA and resorts to name calling.
Like this Yugo Matt – “some hyper masculine guy, who’s primary diet consists of steak and beer” (because their opinion differs from some other neanderthal)
Its one massive thing wrong with society right now, disagree with me and I’ll label you… Free Speech ONLY if you agree with the mob…
Legacy hire Mark Reuss is the executive in charge of product development. Oddly he doesn’t get much blame for GM’s imbecilic product decisions, maybe because he’s a cigar chomping male with a colon full of meat?
Barra has focused on transforming GM into the leader in EV technology. We’ll see how that works out, but already Honda plans to us Ultium batteries in their EVs, which I find remarkable having grown up in the era of Roger Smith.
CT4 has the rest of the options that CT5 has, so it should have the rear camera mirror.
Most of the CT4 parts are the same as CT5 anyways, except what must be different, CT4 should
have the camera mirror. I think CTS had it as a stand alone option, so no excuse.
Maybe it will be there for 2021.

“Most of the parts of the CT4 are the same as the CT5 anyways…”
This post takes the Booby prize today. How can you possibly post that?
Pretty much all the ATS lineup had Brembo brakes…CT4 not so much, only sport…CT4 has 8 speed automatic..anyone with 8 speed now would never buy another(fool me once shame on you..fool me twice shame on me)
Interesting post as I thought of that also. My 2015 ATS has Brembo’s. Looking at the current CT4/CT5, Brembo’s are only standard on the Sport and V models. At 64,000 miles, they are still great! My front brakes would have been replaced long ago on other vehicles.
