The all-new 2021 Ford F-150 has landed, aiming to fight the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra with “the most maximum towing, payload, torque and horsepower of any full-size light-duty pickup.” Headlining the new reveal is a fresh hybrid powertrain option.
The 2021 Ford F-150 will be offered with an all-new 3.5L PowerBoost V6 full hybrid engine, which mates to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid engine option will be available on every trim level. Specs include “at least” 12,000 pounds of max available towing capacity, and 700 miles of range on a single tank of gas. The V6 utilizes an electric motor with regenerative braking capability, and a 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery. The battery is mounted underneath the truck, which means it won’t affect cab or cargo room.
There’s also the Pro Power Onboard feature, with a 2.0-kilowatt output for gas engines, and 2.4-kilowatt output as standard for the hybrid. A 7.2-kilowatt option is also available.
Outside, we see a new exterior design, with new headlamps, a new power dome, wraparound bumpers, and high fenders. Customers get 11 grille styling options, while LED lighting is found front and back. The 2021 Ford F-150 gets the most aerodynamic design in the nameplate’s history, and comes with active grille shutters. The pickup is built on a fully boxed steel frame, with an aluminum body.
The interior design is also new, highlighted by a 12-inch center screen as standard on XLT high series and above. An eight-inch screen is standard on XL and XLT standard trims. There’s also an available 12-inch digital gauge cluster.
Further infotainment features include over-the-air updates, as well as connected features like predictive maintenance and feature upgrades. The SYNC 4 system is standard, and there’s also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Driver assists are bundled via Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0.
The 2021 Ford F-150 debuts the new available Tailgate Work Surface with integrated rulers, a mobile device holder, a pencil holder, and a cupholder. There’s also an optional Interior Work Surface designed to hold a laptop, or provide a surface for eating meals. Finally, there are optional Max Recline Seats for King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims, which provide nearly 180 degrees of tilt for resting.
The 2021 Ford F-150 will be available this fall.

I like the tie-downs on the sides of the tailgate and the holes for the clamps. All the rest is meh…(unless the hybrid is cheap and in low-spec work-truck trim levels)
And what’s GM’s response to this? Oh yeah probably to postpone the most basic upgrade (the interior) until the next 2 years, keep the same unchanged engines, and probably to decrease towing by like 500lbs while ford and dodge constantly upgrade their trucks without their costumers even asking, meanwhile both fans, owners, AND car reviewers have complained about the plastic interior since its debut. I dont want to sound like a boomer (I’m 17) but I’m a straight up GM fanboy no questions asked. I dont like ford and I think dodge is alright but I can’t justify the Silverado anymore. Its just about lacking in every category in its class and while ford and dodge stay on their toes, GM continues to purposely leave their pants down
This interior is no better than the current Silverado/Sierra interiors. Boring, outdated, cheap look. Yes, and endless recalls as a no cost option.
Um no, if you post the big 3’s interior side by side, you can see that ram and ford have better materials. I said that same thing for the past year. I made up reasons to try to justify the Silverado interior to the competition, but I just can’t defend it anymore
So which brand new full size truck did you spend your money on? Or do you even have your license?
I’m still deciding on getting a 2500 at4 diesel later on in life and yes, I have a junior license
Good luck finding quality materials in the entry and middle versions F-Series. Especially 250 and 350.
Sorry but I just watched a video of the new mid version XLT and even it looks premium.
No more premium than Sierra SLE.
Funny, Ford is the one being threatened with lawsuits because their garbage recycled plastic interiors warp when the truck is parked in the sun. Every one of them have warped dashes around the defrost vents and the gloveboxes don’t line up right after a while. They ignored the problem since 2015.
Better than Tahoe, Yukon, cracked dashes after 1 year. Or writing on buttons wearing off after day 5. Cheap ass interiors.
Nice try. My current F150 is almost eight years old. The last one was 9 years old when I traded it in. They both sit in my driveway, uncovered all day in the ridiculously hot and humid SE Louisiana weather. I’ve never had issues with the dash warping or fading. I’d like a new 2021, but my current ride has NEVER had even the slightest issue. It just refuses to give me a reason to get rid of it. Can’t say that about that Dodge I once had.
You can tell materials by looks??? Get in a F150 that isn’t a platinum and the interior is a horrid sea of plastic.
I’m not sure where this GM has the worst interiors came from, definitely not what I’ve experienced in person.
The idea that GM has the worst interiors came from about the last couple decades of them always having really plasticy interiors.
Honestly though, I’m one of those that doesn’t mind a truck having an industrial type interior, but if you’re looking for a luxury truck I can understand why people like the Ram and F-150 better.
Exactly.
I like your TRUTH, no matter what anyone say or think don’t change it – U Nailed It
I think that the GMC Hummer SUT is the response. While a hybrid using the 3.0L LM2 would be nice (800 mile range?), I’m not sure that GMC will offer a hybrid. I do like that Ford incorporated the electric motor into the transmision, but maybe should have about 30% more power than the unit installed.
I’m also a GM guy. How sad is it I don’t really want a Camaro, but I have a hard on for the Mach 1.
You’re not wrong. GM is the master of overlooking extremely easy to get right things. But this F-150 is a solid double, it’s no home run. Neither is the Silverado or Sierra.
I think I can live without a 12” monitor and folding shift handle.
My question is the lay down seat? What happens in an accident as the belt will not hold you back laying down.
My mother in-law was reclined in her Lincoln in a minor accident and fractured her back as she slipped under the belts.
This truck is just an incremental step forward that has some advantage but lacks in other areas like the tailgate and even the shutters that my GMC had years ago.
I bet you can only use the lay down seats when the truck is stopped and in park. This does seem dangerous while driving so maybe the truck won’t let you shift into gear unless the seats are in the upright position.
Those seats are to be used in that position when not in motion, I don’t know how far back your mother N law was reclining back but I’d sit up right to the position of the seatbelt…
I doubt they even fixed the 4-wheel drive system yet. Ever since they started to use that cheap IWE system it’s been complete junk. My 2016’s 4WD ate up at least half a dozen hubs before they finally found all the vacuum leaks. My friend’s 2019 did the exact same thing. I doubt this truck got much of a complete redesign and I doubt they did anything about that junk 4WD..
Numerous manuals and even sticker warnings in the cabins as well as airline companies all advise you to sit up when in motion (or when landing). To nullify this feature based on that speculation is comical. I think it’s hilarious that Ford thought about this option, but the times I’ve had too many drinks or went camping (then had to sleep in the truck due to bad storms) I wished the seats conformed like they do in that truck. This will definitely help those on long trips, working long shifts, or even trying to get the poonanny.
How could any red blooded american give a guy a thumbs down in a post that used the term poonanny?
I know… Right? Someone at Ford must agree, they even have the fold away shifter for road head (albeit in park only)… LOL Saftey first!
spelled it wrong
You contradicted yourself, you brag about the tailgate but knock Ford for being late to the shutter party. Ford had its tailgate step almost a decade before GM. I am sorry but Ford has a great tailgate design “out of sight and out of mind” until you need it.
Without seeing the actual interior and cannot then judge the materials used….GM better come with it on the Silverado interior Redesign. If you watch the videos on YouTube Ford has some pretty cool interior features. Makes me sick to my stomach that GM hasn’t had a first to market so to speak in the interior game in like forever with the Silverado. Man I hate Ford HAHA
I hope you realize you have to step up to the big leagues and buy a Denali to match the interior materials and quality. Chevy is Chevy for a reason, the value of your dollar to buy a truck that gets work done. If you want a refined experience on top of getting that job done you gotta opt for the Sierras (obviously not the WT trims) to begin with. You aren’t going to see a big screen or a nice dash like that on some LT 😂
Ford has horrible plastic interiors on their XLT’s and below. Ram is the same with their SLT’s/big Horn/long horn trims and below. GM realized how to market their trucks and requires you to buy an SLE Sierra (LTZ)just to get the stitching on the dash and mid level DIC.
i have an 01 silverado i love my truck but i cant buy a dodge and just ordered a ford f150 xlt damn thing is practically a platinum by the time i got done with the order i do not like the chevy body styles if my 01 was a 4×4 instead of rwd i might not consider selling it and buying summer wheels for the newest addition coming soon to our little shed in the adirondacks bottom line chevy is lacking on exterior and interior in my opinion
I just saw a video that shows all the interiors and all the different Trims that Ford is going to use….GM really is 20 years behind. Wow
How can GM drop the Ball that badly on the All New 1500’s. They need to step their game up dramatically. I hate to say this as I am a GM but Ford just came with it with the All New Interior. GM should be embarrassed.
Just the colors alone that Ford chose let alone the trim pieces and all the differentiation in each trim should be a warning to GM. I hate to say it but GM better not use the Tahoe interior as that is more akin to an SUV. Just my opinion as a NON Pickup Truck owner.
I am sure everyone here that strictly lives within the GM Bubble and will never say wow that company actually did a great job will give me like 50 dislikes but whatever. I am a GM fan and will always call them out or praise them where deserved. I want GM to be the best at everything!!!
The interior of the F-150 proves that people want an interior that’s more akin to an SUV. Take out the stow away table / flat surface, and it’s an SUV interior, plain and simple.
You can see who is delusional when GM sells more trucks than anyone else and people call it a “GM bubble”.
Last year was the first full year of the Ford Ranger for sales. TFLTRUCK.COM, added the Silverado, Sierra, Colorado and Canyon together and The F150 and Ranger outsold GM.
Exterior wise the F-150 is still by far the ugliest. I have always hated their front windows the way they dip down. Not a fan of that at all. Sierra best exterior and Ram best interior in my opinion.
At some point, probably when the next generation F-150 shows up, the 2.3 should replace the 3.3 and the 3.0 should replace the 2.7. Hopefully the 3.5 high output has taken the place of the low output 3.5 since the hybrid 3.5 has taken the high output’s spot. Glad to see the 3.3 got the 10 speed and im interested to see just how much better the fuel economy ratings are on the 5.0 with cylinder deactivation. This truck getting better should make everyone else strive for better, after all competition makes everyone improve.
Great Job 1 FORD I love the exterior interior dash and seats, can’t wait to see it in person
They did a good job with the new list of features and a nice interior. They took notice of having a big touch screen lol.. but they do have some innovative ideas. I like the plugins in the bed even though it’s not a must have, but it would nice to do some small projects when your not at your shop.
I’m sure the power trains will have a bump in power and I wished that GM would have done the same. It has been GM with the most power/torque for a lot of years but Ford has become that in to me honestly the most innovative. It’s hard to say when I been a diehard Chevy/GMC fan for so long and still am. GM’s Pro-Tailgate is nice and the carbon fiber bed and the HUD.. But all these features are SLT or higher which means if you wanted them it’s in the 60,000 ball-park. But beyond that I wish they had some more ideas that the others could look at and say “Hey, I wished we had thought of that.” But it hasn’t really been that in a long time. Ford and now even Ram have been the innovative leaders of the truck market in my opinion.
I would like to see GM do something from the powertrain department on up. Great exterior if you ask me and great ride, but do some other things that will make it more appealing. The F-150 now is appealing to more mainstreamers and still keeping their fan base happy and probably could further that with this IMO.
On the contrary, this F-150 hardly looks different from the one it’s replacing besides the grille and headlight. The side profile looks nearly identical. The days where all the Ford die hards were saying the Chevy’s plays it safe with their exterior. I can say Ford has done that this round for sure, probably the safest. And like all new trucks now.. this truck we are shown probably going to be priced in the $62,000- $65,000 range or higher and still will have room to be optioned out.. the days of a 100K truck are getting closer. Everyone is screaming luxury just to have something look nice while going to buy some things at Lowe’s.
Fold flat seats means better rest from waiting on roadside assistance….
Failed Objects, Returned Daily….
Really, this is the redesign that had us waiting?, it’s just a refresh.
Ford is going to sell a full hybrid F150 with about 700 miles of range on gasoline.
This is a big deal.
Not really. A 1.5-kWh battery is a joke. The Tesla model x can have 100 kWh batteries. The reason the F-150 can get to the 700 mile range per tank is due to the 36 gallon tank. IMO, the size of tank that GM is putting in their trucks is something that should be addressed. When you are towing a heavy load and only getting 10mpg then the bigger gas tank is a big advantage.
You’re comparing a hybrid to a long range electric vehicle that doesn’t use any gasoline at all. Part of the point of a hybrid is getting away with a much smaller battery.
Your right about the fuel tank though, and GM should offer a larger one.
700/36.1=20mpg. Pathetic really
Your math is based on speculation about the size of the tank in the hybrid, which we don’t know.
They also claim 23mpg combined.
Hybrid cars sometimes do better in the city, but I bet the truck still is better on the highway.
I guess we’ll find out.
Disappointed by the sparse amount of wood on the Limited. Also, the center dash seems a bit crude. Has a 15-passenger van look to it. Lots of black plastic for that $$$. I’m sure it’s good and maybe the best, but this is not an amazing update IMO.
Sorry to say this well no one says it. It look like the new GMC Sierra from the front so mush for new design. Ford has alway waited for GM to bring out there new design then they come back with something that looks the same.
Actually, Ford introduced the C-shaped headlights on the 2015 F-150. The Silverado and Sierra didn’t even have LED lights in 2015. Sorry but Ford started that signature look. I like the GMC better though.
Still generic and ugly. A big screen cannot take away the fact that the rest of the interior looks like it came from 2006.
All of you Ford humping trolls love spending your time here, eh? Go back to Ford authority and resume your circle-jerk.
Can the touch screen on these new vehicles get any larger? The darn thing just creates another distracted driver on the road. Now if they could only make it removable so I can watch tv in my family room! Perhaps that’s next.
I dont like Ford, but this looks good. Front end looks a bit like a sierra.
A lot are saying that the Silverado and Sierra are generations behind interior wise and I can see that. GM decided to give their exteriors a futuristic look instead. I prefer the previous generation GM twins myself but the current generation has grown on me slightly. I have been saying it for years, GM does not understand the truck market. Ram and Ford understand that people want nice interiors over flashy exteriors. Yes, the Ford is basically a carryover exterior with a new interior but peoplewant nice interiors. The rumor of Ford copying the GMC lights is embarrassing and needs to stop. The truth is Ford has had the LED C-shaped headlights and ADRL since 2015. The GMC didn’t have LED lights in 2015. I know because I own one. The GMC got LED headlights and C shaped ADRL with the 2016 refresh. I still like the GMC better and the interior of it is comfortable enough for me.
Interiors and styling are a bit subjective and really dependent on how you will be using the truck. By GM needs to up its power train game to match Ford. Their Byzantine matrix of 6, 8 and 10 speed transmissions available only by trim level is confusing and stupid. Why can’t I get a Silverado Custom TrailBoss with the 5.3 and 10-speed? Nope, only the old 6-speed. The LT comes with the 8-speed. GM forces you into the higher trim levels and prices to gain the premium equipment like the 2-speed Autotrac transfer case. Looks like another year of sales leadership for Ford.
Wjtinfwb I totally agree with you. I also don’t understand why they offer the two different versions of the V8 Engines. The power ratting are the same and there is not enough difference in gas mileage to justify the added cost and complexity of offering the two different Engines. I think the money would have been better spent upgrading the power to better match the competition.
Cant judge the interior because I haven’t seen it in person. That being said it sure would be nice if the GM twins were first in class across the board. Power , towing , hauling , gas mileage , best interior and last but not least best overall value. By the way I knew I had seen a front fender line similar to the new Silverado. It was a mid sixties Ford. Tried to upload photo but no luck.
And the Silverado still looks better than the F150. It’s always been an ugly truck, though I’d take a Raptor any day. Chevy needs to address the interior. It’s stupid to try to match the competition. The name of the game is to beat it.
fords look like trucks not aero pickups
I will never drive a Ford I’ve always said, been a GM man my whole life. Butttt did those engineers think of everything or what? Lay down seats, the gear shifter folding down is so throughtful. The self driving is money, the hybrid is fantastic. Was waiting for a super cruise Yukon but now it’s 50/50….
