2021 Yukon Rear Media System Priced

The 2021 GMC Yukon brings new styling, fresh underpinnings, and an updated engine lineup for the luxury full-size SUV nameplate. Included in the list of available features is an all-new rear seat entertainment package, which keeps passengers engaged with two individual screens mounted to the back of the front seats. Now, we have pricing details in hand for the latest 2021 Yukon rear media system.

As a reminder, the 2021 Yukon rear media system includes a pair of high-resolution 12.6-inch diagonal LCD touch screens, which include a tilt feature for improved visibility, and screen sharing capability. Passengers can connect to the system via USB or HDMI ports, enabling streaming from a tablet, smartphone, or gaming console.

Each of the screens can be customized in terms of what is displayed, which means two passengers can watch or listen to their own chosen media. What’s more, the system enables audio streaming through wireless headphones, or the vehicle’s audio system, as desired. There’s also a feature that allows passengers to submit navigation requests to the infotainment screen up front, which is useful for providing directions without taking away the attention of the driver.

Pricing information for the 2021 Yukon rear media system is currently only available for SLT and Denali trim levels. Pricing for SLE and AT4 trims is currently unavailable.

For the Denali trim, the 2021 Yukon rear media system is offered as a standalone option, and is priced at $1,995.

For the SLT trim, the 2021 Yukon rear media system is only available with the Rear Media And Nav Package, which is priced at $2,490. The reason the system requires navigation on the SLT but not the Denali is that the latter comes standard with navigation, whereas the SLT does not. As a reminder, navigation is required for the system’s navigation request feature. The nav system includes SiriusXM NavTraffic.

Does the 2021 Yukon rear media system seem like a good option for the next-gen SUV? Let us know your thoughts in the comments, and make sure to subscribe to GM Authority for more GMC Yukon news, GMC news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

  1. The Denali Premium Package includes almost everything above, only omitting the Rear Seat Media Package. In place of the screens for back-seaters, the bundle installs a powered panoramic sunroof and power-retractable assist steps with perimeter lighting. Purchased with the 22-inch wheels, this assortment runs $7,000, or $5,025 with a different set of wheels. Here again, the right combination of additional packages can save $500.

    1. The 3rd row media is being replaced with a sunroof and retractable assist steps? How do you explain that to a five and six year old? Twinkle Twinkle little start can over been seen at night! Please come up with a solution that ties into the car.

  2. Media screens on back seats i can see as high theft items. Unless they can be easily detached. I have 4 grandkids, i would not want it. They have their own media tablets,.

  3. I don’t think I’m a fan of hanging them off the front seat – seems susceptible to damage from children climbing in and out. Also, is the panoramic sunroof the only one offered?

  4. Really seems like you are asking for trouble here with theft. This could be the new “third seat” for this generation of the Yukon/Tahoe.

  5. Third row does not have any screens? Rizzato, you’re going to have to pick your favorite Grand kids for the middle row!

This is a deal breaker for me with nothing for the 3rd row. Please do not suggest hanging an I=Pad, I have no intention of pulling over to change the media. Children are all under 5

    1. John Lindsay, This is so true! I have 4 kids under 6 and the oldest two need to be in the back so I can buckle the littles two. My older kids won’t be happy! Is it an option for the ceiling screens like in my 2012 yukon denali?

      Reply
      1. Exactly…how stupid….people with 4 kids buy this car for that reason, what are the kids in the back supposed to do?

        Reply
  6. First off, can I control the screens from the front for my 4 and 5 year olds? You only mention the rear sharing stuff with the front, not vice versa. And I agree with other comment that the very rear seat kids get left out!! These will be used by little kids 90 % of the time, teens and adults will use their own smartphone. Who approved this???

    1. There are 2 HDMI ports in the back seat. If you buy an HDMI adapter for you phone, then it is just screen sharing from you phone to the monitor. Whatever is on you phone will be on the screen.

  7. Oh no, I just went to order/build and realized there is no Blu-ray player option at all. Ugh! My granddaughters have a whole library of them they like to watch in mine now.

  8. We just purchased a 2021 Yukon Denali…… DO NOT buy it expecting what years before offered. The screens and sound do NOT work consistently. This vehicle is not what years past were. Very disappointed in our purchase. Would not recommend for families.

  10. We have the new 2021 Yukon and our family absolutely loves it. However I am having problems streaming content from tablet and iPhone. I bought the Apple adapter and HDMI cord but there is still only a black screen it is not projecting or sound. Can someone help me with this? Is there a writing issue that I’m missing here?

  11. Guys….. You have a dealership for a reason. Ask someone to show you in person how to operate your vehicle. I just purchased a 2021 Yukon 2 days ago and we LOVE IT!! Why anyone would go with the Denali trim over the SLT is beyond me as the SLT has EVERYTHING!

If you’re not caught up by the Denali name I suggest looking into a SLT.

    1. I personally have been to the dealership 3X!!! Looking for additional help. Thank you!

  12. Either you’re lying or just can’t comprehend.

I find it hard to believe you left a dealership 3X with no one helping you with a 2021 vehicle.

Especially since EVERYTHING IS UNDER WARRANTY! Some people just like attention.

    1. John—there’s no need for that negativity on this thread that is not what it is here for please know this & carry on. Why on earth would I lie about that? It’s not even a thing to lie about 😳 strictly looking for advice and not from you apparently. We have the 2021 Yukon Denali & we LOVE it too.

  13. I doubt you have anything at this point. What you’re saying makes absolutely zero sense.

You claim you bought a Yukon and yet you claim you have been to a dealership three times or 3X in your understanding.

And yet nobody has been able to show you what you’re obviously doing wrong and how to properly turn it on?

Either you’re lying or that is one incompetent dealership. I personally believe you’re lying. It’s pretty straight forward to turn it on and plug and play.

And you get smart and receive the same in kind and now you’re crying foul lol. You must be a Democrat.

  14. Wow John, get off this thread if you aren’t wanting to help, just wanting to be a jerk and accuse some guy of lying!
YOU are the one I’d guess is the Democrat!

  15. How about you get off the thread seeing how you don’t even own the vehicle and offering your so called help lol.

And yes I sure did accuse “some guy” of lying because obviously something isn’t adding up.

Shouldn’t you be sleep at your old age or making a sandwich?

Go make yourself useful instead of butting in defending a jerk when all I did was give the most useful “tip” anyone having technical support would need.

Come back and talk to me when you actually own a 2021 Yukon.

    1. I hope you are kicked off here, you are such a loser and a troll that doesn’t even own a denali. Trolling here of all places!! You must have a sad lonely little life. And I’m old??? LOL. What are you 12? Let people ask questions, that’s what this site is for, not little kids.
Go away, troll facebook or something….

      1. I don’t know why you insist on dragging this on lol and then cry like that other lying moron.

This is the equivalent of what the democrats do lol.

As I said before buy the vehicle then come comment.

If you actually owned the vehicle you would know that other idiot is clearly lying and just wants attention like you.

You’re on here complaining about upgraded technology. If you don’t like it then go get a used one that can play your outdated disc.

This has probably been the highlight of your boring life. You’re welcome granny.

  17. Just picked up my new 2021 Denali and discovered no DVD player. Very important item left out of the option list. Curious George is not happy that he can’t be shown on the screens. This option as configured is useless to me and certainly not worth the cost. I will not order it on my 2022 Denali.

    1. I know, I was shocked that it isn’t even an option!!! So disappointing. I hate that I have to rely on wireless/streaming during driving in dead zones, kids will not be happy, so I won’t be happy. I wish they would reconsider and if they do let us be able to upgrade the screens to do so. Mine is already on order…..

  18. Just purchased the 2021 Yukon XL about a week ago. From what I can tell, you cannot listen to a movie through the speakers in the car unless you are smart casting it from your phone. Am I correct? Anyone else notice this? I plugged in a fire stick in the HDMI port and it works great, but can get sound other than in headphones.

    2. 2021 At4 here and I just came to the internet to find out why we can’t hear the DVD that is playing off our xbox unless we have on headphones. Mirror cast only works with Android and we have found the entire infotainment set up to be VERY NON USER FRIENDLY. Disappointed.

  19. I bought a 2021 Yukon Premier and had the rear media installed, they said its exactly the same but better, NOT TRUE….. Its a lot smaller and is positioned lower on the front seats, and looks cheap, but cost 2k. Ive asked them to remove it and give me my money back or replace it with the factory model installed, or replace it with a new car that has it, ( which I know they wont) Lets see what they do….

  20. Hi everyone!
We bought a 2021 SLT Yukon. We were having major issues with the infotainment center playing off our phones. We had our salesman come to our house after the training session with GM of the tv’s etc. We even called the technician who trained the salesman and they could not figure it out. The only thing that would play was YouTube. All phones were updated, new hdmi cord and lightning cord etc. I brought it back to the dealership and made a complaint and a case with GM The guys in the service department didn’t know what to do because the cars are so new. After 3 days of being there, 3 trips back to the dealership(25 minutes away each way) and letting GM hear my mouth ring because there was no fix and a “senior supervisor” would call me within 2 business days after it had been escalated and every time I called it had never been escalated. I told GM I was going to my attorneys office to start a suit because as of Monday I had a case # and no one had even called the dealership yet. Needless to say..

THE FIX(after our sales rep and the financial guy at the dealership played with it for hours). TURN OFF ALL WIFI CONNECTIONS ON THE DEVICE YOU ARE USING. The manual says complete opposite! The training person said complete opposite.. everything GM said was wrong! It started playing Disney+, Hulu, Netflix etc. everything. As of now, it’s working! Hope this helps!

    1. Laura, I have been unable to get my infotainment system working for weeks and it’s super frustrating. Even with wifi turned off I cannot get Disney+ or anything else to play. How did you connect your phone to the system? And can I ask what type of phone you have?

      Reply
      1. You need to have an android to wirelessly mirror what’s on your phone via the Miracast app. If you have an iPhone, you have to tether it via a USB C charging cable. Make sure your Wifi is off on your devices as well!

    2. We have having similar issues… I can get the ipads to work with the hdmi cord but the fire stick keeps turning off and on. The screen will go back and static on the screens. Wondering if you have had any other issues.

  22. I have the 2021 SLT and had the dealership install the one with the DVD player- it was annoying. The TVs have to warm up so I couldn’t set them for my 2 year old until they did. Then I asked to have the TVs changed to the hdmi ones and they are pointless. You can play them through the speakers but can’t control them from the front to change whatever they’re watching. I have 3 small children and their iPads just hook up to the TVs and are used to mirror the same onto the TVs. So pretty much pointless. I will be returning them and getting iPad holders. Also my 2 year old kicks the tv with her feet and I’m worried about cracking the screen. I do miss the old tv in our 2017 Yukon. I also miss that the new Yukon does not have the child lock control from the front. Since the new Yukon is now all electric I’m not sure why they changed the child locks back to manual. First world problems.

  23. I’ve had my 2021 Yukon XL Denali 4X4 Ultimate package now for about 2 weeks. I’ve only had time to ride in the back and test out using a fire stick in the HDMI port and plug it in the outlet behind the console (I got the sliding console BTW, love it!!!). I haven’t had time to get back there while husband drives to try streaming straight from phone or see if I can plug a DVD player in the HDMI to work either, have you?
Anyway, I have to turn off the AUTO stop EVERY single time I drive or the screens will turn off and have to be rebooted from the start of the fire stick screen. Is there a way to make the AUTO stop stay OFF so that I don’t have to do it each time I drive? So far if it’s dark I have to turn ON the auto brights/dimming switch, turn OFF the autostop for the screens to stay on, etc, etc, etc..
GMC has made it like you are an airline pilot and have to do so many checks, check, check before you hit the road…LOL

  24. I’d like to know this also, the only thing I’ve been able to play from my Android phone is videos on my phone, and only if they are .mov, and even then they show up sideways, etc…. very frustrating! So much money for my Yukon xl Denali and no bluray now.

  25. This is for John. The guy saying he took it to the dealership and couldn’t get help is not lying. How do I know? Because I have the same issue with my 2021 GMC Yukon Denali. The dealership isn’t ignorant but due to COVID people haven’t been properly trained. I use one of the leading GMC dealers in the southeast located in Charlotte, NC. This has been the most frustrating technological experience ever, and I have a programming degree. Cords don’t work properly, iPad sound only comes thru Bluetooth, and HDMI is the only thing I’ve found to work halfway so far. The fact that GMC thought NO physical DVD player or blue ray or whatever was smart makes me question the engineers’ common sense. And as for your derogatory remarks, let me defend everyone and say – I’m not a grandma; I have three small kids; I don’t care if you come for me because unlike you I have a life; and you clearly do not have small kids or you would feel the frustrations of us, so until you do – TAKE A SEAT and shut up! Thanks

For the person asking about iPad sound coming through the speakers, you have to put the sound through the Bluetooth up front and have the hdmi/lightning cord projecting the picture. If your kids use headphones, then Bluetooth isn’t necessary. That’s the ONLY good feature I have found is that adults can listen to music at the same time as kids watching streamed programs IF the streaming sound is out through Bluetooth headphones.

  26. I just bought a 2021 Yukon with the $2,500 rsi infotainment system in it. We have loads of DVDs we want to play as we did with our 2017 Yukon. How do we watch them? The kids are going crazy and I feel like an idiot Is there something we can buy so we can watch our DVDs on our long trips? Nobody seems to know how to watch DVDs. Please help. I went to the dealership and they couldn’t answer me.

  27. I would love to buy the Yukon AT4. I really want the Navigation built in however, I do NOT wanted the rear media system. We spend enough time on our devices, passengers can look out the window and enjoy the ride or look at their phones. Hopefully in 2022 you can get navigation without rear media.

  28. I tried hooking up my home DVD player via HDMI and it didn’t work. Now what? What kind of DVD player do I need to purchase? My young kids want me to get another car. The $2,500 I paid for the rsi infotainment is wasted money.
