Last year, GM Authority was the first to exclusively report that the two light-duty, half-ton GM pickup trucks – the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 – would get updated interiors, either for the 2021 or 2022 model years. Now, we’ve managed to obtain concrete information about the incoming 2021 Silverado interior update.
Sources familiar with product plans tell GM Authority that the 2021 Silverado will receive the same fixed center console as the all-new, 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. Though a few minor changes will be made, especially for trucks with the front bench seat option, the new console will essentially be a carry-over from the all-new SUVs. In fact, it will share the same RPO Code of D07. Expect the same for the 2021 Sierra.
Though photos of the updated console in the pickup trucks are currently not available, the setup will mimic that of the new SUVs, pictured below.
Besides the standard fixed center console, the 2021 Tahoe and Suburban also offer an optional power-sliding center console. It’s unclear as of this writing whether this option will make its way to the 2021 Silverado interior update.
Other changes that will be made to both GM trucks is the addition of upfitter switches on on entry- and mid-level trims.
Additionally, the 2021 Silverado will see expanded availability of the power-operated tailgate, with the feature becoming available on LT, RST, and LT Trail Boss models. For the 2019-2020 model years, this power up/down tailgate is only available on the high-end LTZ and High Country models.
Since their introduction for the 2019 model year, the T1 platform Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra have been criticized for lackluster cabins, particularly on higher-end trim levels like LTZ, High Country and Denali. Some derided the all-new GM trucks for having interiors that do not compare well to the competition, particularly the Ram Pickup, which was similarly overhauled for the 2019 model year. The 2021 Silverado interior enhancements will be aimed at addressing those criticisms head-on.

Meanwhile, the Silverado HD and Sierra HD will gain the aforementioned interior updates for the 2022 model year. In the meantime, both trucks will receive many minor updates for the 2021 model year:
Before we go, we should also note that there will also be a few other 2021 Silverado interior updates besides the new console, and we will be back to report on those very soon, so be sure you’re subscribed to GM Authority for the latest Chevrolet Silverado news, Chevrolet news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.
