The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado has arrived, slotting in as the seventh model year for the latest second-gen pickup. Now, interested buyers and fans can suit theirs to taste using the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado online configurator.
There are three body configurations on offer, including Extended Cab / Long Box, Crew Cab / Short Box, and Crew Cab / Long Box. Per changes for the 2021 model year, which delete the base-model trim level, the revised 2021 Chevrolet Colorado trim level cadence is as follows:
- Work Truck
- LT
- Z71
- ZR2
Both RWD and 4WD are available. There will be three engines to choose from, including the 2.5L four-cylinder LCV, which produces 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque, the 3.6L V6 LGZ, which produces 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, and the turbodiesel 2.8L four-cylinder LWN Duramax, which produces 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.
To note, the diesel LWN engine option is currently not listed on the configurator, and is believed to have late availability. Per our exclusive coverage last May, GM will continue to have a supply of diesel LWN engines despite the sale of its production facility in Thailand.
Standout packages include the Redline Special Edition, which adds in 18-inch High gloss Black painted aluminum wheels, a spray-on bedliner, red recovery hooks, a new grille, black Off-Road assist steps, a black grille and Bow Tie badge, and red stripes for the mirrors, and the Z71 Midnight Edition, which adds all-weather floor liners 17-inch Black-painted wheels, 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac all-terrain tires, Black Bow Tie badging, and a spray-on bedliner.
As a reminder, the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado brings a mild refresh for the nameplate, with a few small updates to the exterior, interior, and powertrain. Although the ’21 Colorado is not considered a full mid-cycle refresh (or “mid-cycle enhancement” as it is known in General Motors parlance), it’s as close as it gets. Changes and updates include an updated front fascia with new trim-specific badging and lettering, a few revisions to the exterior paint options and wheel options, and revisions to the various packages on offer.
Head over to the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado configurator and give it a whirl, then post your setup in the comments. And remember to subscribe to GM Authority for more Chevrolet Colorado news, Chevrolet news, and around-the-clock GM news coverage.

Does this update (refresh) apply to the GMC Canyon?
Yes.
The Canyon just got a refresh as well.
There is no diesel available for the truck
I think they just forgot to add it. GM said it would be available for the 2021 models. Good catch though.
Good eye, James. The diesel 2.8L LWN engine option is currently not listed on the configurator, but is believed to have late availability. The post has been updated for the sake of clarification.
Are they still using the junk 8 speed transmissions?
Kenneth Williams: What are your concerns with the “junk 8 speed”? I have a 2015 with the 6 speed that spends too much time between gears unless I put it in the “tow mode” and I was hoping the 8 speed would be an improvement. I was considering going for the 2021 until I read your post and realized I better take a harder look at the 8 speed. Hope you can fill me in. Thanks, Ron
I love how you have to spend 300 bucks just to put back the chrome belt molding that used to be standard. They finally fixed the power seat and made it a 6-way instead of a 4-way. The front bumper looks wimpy and I wish the LT had a reasonably priced 18″ wheel available. And wow what a lack of colors!
