Earlier this week, General Motors confirmed the new removable roof panels on the upcoming GMC Hummer EV pickup truck. Now, you can check out the new roof in the official teaser video right here.
The video is brief, clocking in at just 17 seconds, but it shows all the open-sky goodness slated for the new GMC Hummer EV. The video pans across the roof from the perspective of the passenger’s seat, showing off a starry night sky. The new Hummer’s T-shaped roof structure is visible, and it looks as though it will provide plenty of atmosphere for those in the cabin.
“Zero limits looks like this,” reads white blocky text at the end of the video. According to GM, the new all-electric utility will sport “easily removable roof panels” and will provide “a unique open-air experience.”
Media got a glimpse of the GMC Hummer EV’s new removable roof panels during the GM EV Day event back in March. We also got a glimpse of what appears to be the open-top design in a teaser video back in April. However, this is the first official confirmation of the feature provided by the automaker thus far.
The new roof panels will be storable in the GMC Hummer EV’s front trunk area. The feature will be offered on both vehicle body styles, which will include an SUV and a pickup, but it’s currently unclear if the feature will be standard equipment or an optional extra.
The upcoming GMC Hummer EV will be built on the new GM BT1 all-electric vehicle platform, and will come with either a single-, dual-, or triple-motor powertrain. More power and greater range will be offered with each successive configuration. The top-of-the-line model will produce 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 pound-feet of torque (which is a little misleading), and will accelerate to 60 mph in 3 seconds.
The GMC Hummer EV was originally slated to debut on May 20th, but that date has since been pushed back as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
