Following a first announcement as part of the Buick sedan portfolio update in China, General Motors is now officially launching the new 2021 Buick Verano GS in the Asian country. The company has revealed all the details about the newest member of Buick’s GS premium sport line, which completes the Verano lineup refresh launched late last year.
As such, the Buick Verano GS becomes the new range-topping variant of the compact sedan and includes a set of aesthetic elements that give it a more purposeful and unique look. GM claims this brand-new sporty variant of the Verano was designed to appeal to younger customers who want standout styling and are looking for a dynamic driving experience.
Aesthetically, the new 2021 Buick Verano GS features a specific body kit that accentuates its sporty character. Unlike the regular Verano, the GS has more aggressive lower body trim, a unique rear spoiler, a dark grille finish and black roof, window surrounds and mirror caps, as well as 17-inch black alloy wheels with performance tires and red-painted brake calipers.
In addition, the exterior design of the new second-generation Buick Verano variant adds dual rear bumper exhaust outlets and GS emblems on both the grille and the trunk lid.
While the interior of the Verano GS is outfitted with leather and perforated suede seats with red contrast stitching, carbon fiber-like trim and embroidered GS emblems on the front seatbacks for a distinctive look. It also features Buick’s latest smart connectivity technologies, including an eight-inch touchscreen with OnStar and an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot to meet customer expectations.
On a mechanical level, the Buick Verano GS maintains the turbocharged 1.3L three-cylinder engine that already equips the sedan since last year. This mill generates 162 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, and is coupled to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). This powertrain, coupled with new chassis tuning, enables the Verano GS to offer sharper handling and low fuel consumption.
The 2021 Buick Verano is already available in the Chinese market with a price of 177,900 CNY, about $25,200 USD at the current exchange rate. Nearly 700,000 units of the Buick Verano have been sold in China since it was introduced in the country in mid-2015 – the only market where the model is still marketed.

There’s no doubt that if General Motors offered this Buick Verano or Chevrolet Cruze next year, it will sell; but the problem is the total sales volume would be small compared with the Chevrolet Equinox or Buick Envision.
I’ve been trying to lease a Buick Sedan for three years! Both the Regal or Verano would have been good choices. Maybe General Motors should be renamed China Car Company (CCC)
Bring these cars to Europe. Bring Chevrolet back. Leaving Europe was one of GM’s biggest nonsenses. As owner of an, Opel Ampera (Chevrolet Volt), I can say it’s one of the best cars I ever owed.
Seriously, GM? Offer pedestrian-styled LaCrosse, Regal and Veranos in the US in the last decade and promote them with shoddy advertising. Then, methodically kill off each model, until no sedans remain in the Buick lineup. Fast forward to now, and Buick has a stable of stylish, appealing sedans…….but, they are only offered for sale in China. Thanks for nothing, GM. Once I wear out my 2012 LaCrosse, I will likely turn to Toyota or Honda to replace it.
We could care less about China
when the hell will American companies pull out of CHINA a communist country who is trying too kill us for years and now here is proof
