Buick China sales decreased 42.5 percent to 129,587 units during the first quarter of 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
General Motors does not provide individual sales performance of sales in China, but we do have the following information.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, Buick adopted new tactics to stay connected with its customers and offer them peace of mind. For example, the Tri-Shield brand introduced various new sales channels, including the Buick Tmall online store and all-new eBuick digital store.
Buick also began accepting orders for the updated Buick GL8 Avenir in March, which went on sale in early April. Additionally, Buick recently launched a fully upgraded sedan range and refreshed the GL8 MPV family, an aggressive strategy to stabilize and grow its business.

The GM Authority Take
Negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Buick China sales registered its lowest deliveries in recent years during the first quarter, falling 42.5 percent to 129,587 units. This significant decline in sales volume represents the eighth consecutive quarter of sales contraction for the Tri Shield brand. The last positive result for Buick China sales was in the first quarter of 2018, when sales grew 9 percent compared to the same period in 2017.

The Excelle GT is the best-selling Buick model in China
The negative sales trend during the quarter is in line with other competing brands in the Chinese market, which have all posted noteworthy declines in vehicle demand due to the country’s stagnating macroeconomic climate. Despite the Buick’s various efforts to reverse the negative trend, sales are expected to continue their slumping pace during the second quarter of 2020, albeit with a less drastic reduction than during the first quarter.

Comments
43% is a big number but what about the other manufacturers? is it better or worse?
Yeah, kind of hard to appreciate that number without any context. I really don’t know how the Buick brand is holding on in the U.S. right now. GM needs to throw them a life line with a Cadillac based sedan, or just kill off the brand here in the states.
Buick outsells Acura, Volvo, Cadillac, Jaguar, Infiniti…in thr U.S.
Buick outselling Cadillac is part of the problem homie. It doesn’t make any sense to advertise for Buick because its either pulling sales from Chevy or Cadillac, why compete with your own products… silly and wasteful.
As a lover of the Buick brand, this division would have been killed off in 2010 (perhaps instead of Saturn?). If China’s market for Buick falls it is definitely time to retire the brand.
You can have GMC remain with upgraded interiors and let Chevy keep high volume entry level vehicles and Cadillac retain sport-luxury offerings.
GM can save money in the long run by sticking to 3 divisions and less redundancy,

Putting aside the Chinese market disruptions that all makers faced from the Wuhan lab flu, GM’s sales in China were already in decline. Under mad Mary Barra, GM has lost market share or withdrawn completely from every market aside from North America. This is sad to see the decline of a once world leading American company.
Todays GM is floundering like a fish out of water and mad Mary is removing the water , as far as China’s sales GGOOOODD, as far as US sales some buyers are looking for SEDANS BUICK and CHEVY but there are non and sales will overall sales will decline more .
