The 2021 GMC Canyon is the seventh model year of the second-generation vehicle, dropping in with a mild mid-cycle refresh that includes a few changes to the exterior, interior, and powertrain. Additionally, the new Canyon introduces some major changes to the trim level structure, as we reported in a GM Authority exclusive earlier in the year. Now, we’re lining up the 2021 Canyon against the 2020 model year to see how the two compare in terms of price.
Before we launch into this, it’s worth reiterating that the 2021 GMC Canyon trim level structure is radically different than the traditional SL-SLE-SLT-Denali lineup we’ve seen from GMC in the past. For starters, the SL trim and SLT trims were both eliminated outright, while the base Canyon trim was replaced by the new Elevation Standard trim, and the SLE trim was replaced by the Elevation trim. Meanwhile, the off-road-oriented All Terrain trim was replaced by the new AT4 trim. Check out our previous exclusive (linked above) story for a more complete picture of the new trim level structure.
Also, the 2021 GMC Canyon will be offered with a new Sport Bar and Lighting Package, as we covered previously.
With that covered, we should also point out that our pricing comparison between the 2021 GMC Canyon and 2020 GMC Canyon focuses on equivalent standard equipment for each trim for a more direct apples-to-apples comparison. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how things break out:

I knew car makers were running out of intelligent thinking for names but GMC takes it to the extreme with ELEVATION STANDARD an ELEVATION. As much as I like the looks of the truck there won’t be one with that name in my driveway. “What kind of truck did you buy”? “I got an Elevation Standard”, “ A what”? Sounds like GMC has hired some of Toyota’s laid off marketing people who named the full sized pickup a piece of frozen arctic mud, Tundra!
Not buying a truck due to the trim level name is petty at best.
Basically everything not a Denali or AT4 is an Elevation. There is no standard badge just levels of the Elevation platform.
It just puts them in alignment with the Sierra.
