2021 Buick Envision Debuts With Handsome Looks, 2.0L Engine

The 2021 Buick Envision has made its official debut, arriving with handsome exterior looks and a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine.

This new crossover, which rides on the same E2 platform as the Cadillac XT4, ushers in the second-generation of the Envision nameplate. While the crossover was previously set to receive the Enspire name, Buick later decided to stick with the tried and true Envision badge.

Buick says the Envision’s new E2 platform allows for a lower and wider stance compared to the previous generation Envision, giving it “striking styling designed to combine the expressiveness of a car with the practicality of an SUV.”

Power comes from GM’s turbocharged 2.0L LSY four-cylinder engine, which produces 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while a nine-speed automatic transmission routes power to the wheels.

Crucially, the 2021 Buick Envision will also feature more standard active safety technology than the previous model. These include:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Following Distance Indicator
  • Rear Park Assist
  • Safety Alert Seat
  • HD Rear Vision Camera

An abundance of optional advanced safety tech will also be offered, including HD Surround Vision, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and a Rear Camera Mirror, among more.

Buick has yet to release photos of the 2021 Envision’s interior, but the automaker confirmed it will feature an available 10-inch infotainment screen with a built-in Amazon Alexa AI assistant and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 10-inch infotainment screen was seen in spy shots taken last year, which showed the screen mounted slightly slanted towards the driver. The spy shots also revealed the crossover will have an analog dial set up with a white dial, white numbering, and black background, giving it a look similar to the Cadillac XT4.

The 2021 Buick Envision will also be offered in Buick’s range-topping Avenir trim level, though it did not provide any pictures of the Avenir variant. Avenir vehicles usually feature a mesh grille, larger and more ornate wheels, Avenir badging and upscale interior appointments like diamond-quilt leather seats.

  3. This is sleek especially the rear! I’m glad Buick didn’t over style this with a bunch of lines like a lot of other brands do.

  5. where will it be built??

    1. China. Confirmed.

      1. That really pisses me off.

why the hell can they not build it along side the XT4 in Fairfax? Based on what everyone’s saying, the Malibu ain’t selling, so wtf can’t GM build it int he USA!?

        Reply
        1. The XT4 and Envision sales even combined don’t even come close to the Malibu.

      2. I think it is downright asinine for any company to import more things from China in light of the COVID 19 situation. I think that things are going to get real ugly between China and the US. I don’t see how GM can make much money on this vehicle given the 25% tariff.

    2. It should be built in the USA. I think slapping some tariffs on this vehicle will encourage GM to actually follow their policy of “build where we sell”. If China had 0% tariffs on our cars exports, we should reciprocate. Until that happens, tariff tariff tariff. The people who really want this car can pay extra for it, and bonus: more tax revenue to pay for the enormous budget hole we have.

  7. Again, so why will anyone buy the XT4?

    Reply
    1. Because its a cadillac, people by the Escalade all the time over a Denali Yukon

      Reply
      1. The Escalade is an established product, XT4 is a catch-up product that hasn’t proven it’s worth a second look against the competition.

  9. Where is this going to be produced?

    1. hopefully in Kansas with the xt4 and malibu

    2. China, which is fine, as long as it’s as good as my current Envision. My phone, computer and cloths from China are also pretty great.

      1. How stupid could GM’s leadership be thinking that a Chinese made vehicle will sell in significant levels in the US, especially after the CoVid-19 pandemic that came from China! They seemed determined to find a way to keep Buick from really growing. They could have a huge PR victory, especially given the current environment to bring the production back to the US to help the American economy.

  10. Front end looks like a Rav 4. Side and rear looks like a Mazda.

    1. Woe on the down votes. I never said it looked bad.

      1. it reminds me of a mazda too and that is a good thing!!!! it looks terrific.

but i don’t think the front looks anything like the rav4. the rav4 looks like a bull dog.

perhaps you were thinking of the venza.

my main issue is the price. for the same price as a base envision, you could get the top of the line, AWD, leather this and that, moonroof, 250HP, all options, etc … mazda cx-5.

  11. Wow love the way this looks!

  12. Good looking. Wasn’t the earlier generation made in China? Where is this made? China made would be a deal killer.

  13. We own a current model and it’s an awesome car. The worst part of it being made in China was the stock china made tires, they were terrible in any amount of snow. The new one looks good, may even consider buying a new one. I know it’s not a sports car, but it’s deceptively fast. They could improve the interior in a few places, but in general we love the interior.

  14. If this is made in the USA, it will be my next vehicle! Its beautiful!

  15. And we thought the xt4 was a slow seller before!

  16. are the dimensions the same as the current Envision? I have a 2017 but was hoping for something a little larger in between it and the Enclave. But it looks great.

  17. A lot of hypocritical people on here saying they dont want this vehicle if its made in China. So take a look at your clothes, electrical devices, appliances, furniture, kids toys, and the vast amount of other cheap merchandise as the list goes on and on that we buy from China.

My dad owns a 2019 Envision, and its the best GM vehicle hes ever had.

    1. This was going to be my reply, but I chose to leave it alone. I own one and will probably end up upgrading to this new one when I can get a good used one. Love this vehicle, replaced a POS MDX with this. MDX was the best SUV for driving and worst for maintenance, what a nightmare. We’ve only had one minor issue with the Envision and would for sure buy it again.

    2. I agree. My wife has a 2017 premium 1 Envision, the only thing I would change on it is the build location. It’s a great vehicle and suits my wife perfectly. We didn’t want to wait for the then new Terrain to be released, plus the Envision has some nice features the Terrain does not. I understand why it’s not built in the USA when the sales volume is just not high enough. But people are going to hate, and probably write their negative posts on cell phones or computers built in China.

    3. my 2017 Envision has been a great vehicle…..a lot better than the clunky Terrain it replaced.

    4. My clothes were made in Honduras. My electrical devices were made in Japan. My power tools were made in the USA. My appliances were made in the USA my furniture was made in the USA. My kids were made in the US. My car was made in Canada. My toothbrush was made in Germany. My German shepherd was made in the USA. My contact lenses were made in Ireland. The Chinese food I had last night was made in Colorado.

The only thing I have that was made in China is this damn virus.

      1. Most of the components on your list come from China (or some other non Amurica place) and are then assembled in said place.

        Reply
      2. After COVID 19, I do not see how any American would want to purposely support products made in China. If anything, that nation should be punished commensurate with the damage the virus did to the US.

    5. I make a conscious decision not to buy clothes made in China, but I am fortunate enough to be able to be picky in that area. America has long surrendered its manufacturing capabilities in electronics and there happens to be plenty of companies that still manufacture appliances and furniture in America. Buying a cell phone vs a car is apples and oranges.

    6. There are a lot of Americans that would like to buy American made electronics, appliances, toys clothes, etc. but we have no choice because most if not all of these products are made in China. If GM is going to import a car build with slave labor, let it reflect in the price. There are a lot of great American/Canadian made CUVs that can be had in Envision’s price range.

  18. that’s a buick!!!???? wow. very attractive. maybe the best looking one in its segment.

car and driver is saying it will start in the high 30s. with this new design, i think it is still a little high but i’m not completely offended by it.

  19. So my take for what it’s worth: I like it. I’m really confused as to why they decided to use the Envision name instead of the Enspire? So this means that the just (slightly) face lifted Envision is being totally replaced by this next year? My beef with that is Buick now basically has only 3 vehicles in the US lineup. Enclave, Envision and Encore (or 4 if you split up the Encore and Encore GX). LaCrosse is gone. Regal and TourX, gone. Buick is once again being starved for product and had they at least introduced this as an all new Enspire, they could have kept the current (2020) Envision along side it until more product arrives.

On a slightly other note, if this is built on the XT4 platform, then why not build ours along side the XT4 in Kansas? Although it’s not a deal breaker for me personally, I’m just not understanding why it will be built in China. I know my Encore was built in S. Korea and it’s been a fantastic car, so this part is just really more about me scratching my head and thinking they would sell more if built here.

  26. From what I’ve seen so far, this revives my faith in Buick after seeing the Avista kept just as a concept car. Do you have any idea when Buick will debut this and it will be in dealerships for sale as a 2021 model? I’ve been patiently waiting for any information to be released about this new model.

  27. 45’s troll bots are busy and boycotting Panda Express. I guess I’m showing my age, but I remember when we would never by anything made in Japan because of Pearl Harbor and World War II. Likewise, we would never buy a car from Germany because they were built by sons of ex-Nazis. Then we would never buy a car assembled in Mexico because of poor quality from lazy workers. Then, we aren’t supposed to buy cars from Korean automakers because of who knows what excuse. Now, we’re supposed to boycott anything built in China because of any number of things. If we did that, we probably couldn’t buy much of anything. Frankly, if it proves to be a hot seller in the US, the business case could then be made to build it in the US. Anybody thought of that? Duh.
