The GMC Sierra 1500 got an all-new, next-gen overhaul for the 2019 model year, incorporating the new GM T1 platform under the skin, and a new turbodiesel powerplant under the hood. The following 2020 model year brought with it a few minor changes and updates. Now, we’re checking out this Satin Steel 2020 GMC Sierra Diesel 1500 in the following GM Authority Live Photo Gallery.
Let’s begin with a quick mention of this truck’s mechanical bits, starting with the turbodiesel 3.0L I-6 LM2. Offered as part of the Duramax engine family, this oil-burner produces 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed through the GM 10-speed automatic transmission, and reaches the pavement through four-wheel drive.
This particular 2020 GMC Sierra Diesel 1500 also comes with a crew cab and short box body configuration, with the body panels covered in optional Satin Steel Metallic paint.
The pickup is equipped in the mid-range Elevation trim level, and comes with a number of exterior details that add to the aesthetic, including monochromatic application for the door handles, bumpers, and grille surround, black accents for the grille insert, window trim, and tow hooks, and black 20-inch wheels.
With the Satin Steel paint and black accents, this GMC Sierra diesel looks good, enhancing the natural body lines with bold, stark colors.
Inside, we find Jet Black cloth upholstery. This particular GMC Sierra diesel is also equipped with the Elevation Value Package, which tosses in a variety of comfort-adders, including dual-zone climate control, a 10-way power driver seat with power lumbar adjustment, and a heating function for the steering wheel and front seats. The package also adds in rear wheelhouse liners, an automatic rear-locking differential, and a trailering package.
Final touches are added by way of the Preferred Package, which ups cabin tech with an eight-inch infotainment screen, A Bose stereo, a 120-volt power outlet, power rear window, and HD Rear Vision Camera. There’s also a number of safety features on board courtesy of the optional Driver Alert Package, which adds things like Lane Change Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Front and Rear Park Assist.

The diesel engines in GM trucks are not worth the price point or headache. GM still can’t get my baby duramax to work with the GMC Canyon and it’s been 3 years. You can expect multiple breakdowns and dozens of reduced power (limp mode) . It’s just a nightmare to own.
