2020 Corvette Production To Get Back Under Way Shortly

Production of the 2020 Corvette Stingray and 2020 Corvette Convertible is expected to start up at General MotorsBowling Green Assembly plant the week of May 18th.

A user on the Facebook page ‘C8 Corvette Convertible’ claims the Chevrolet sales manager overseeing the order for their car was on a recent GM conference call addressing the production timeline for the 2020 Corvette Stingray and 2020 Corvette Convertible. GM allegedly told dealers that it has extended the production window for 2020 model year C8 Corvette models and plans to fulfill orders for the car throughout 2020. The Bowling Green Assembly plant is expected to come back online along with the rest of GM’s plant on May 18th or sometime shortly after.

The 2020 model year Corvette C8 was originally slated to enter production last December, but the 40-day UAW strike pushed the start of production into late January. The automaker was then forced to shut down the Bowling Green Assembly plant once again in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic after producing less than 2,700 examples of the mid-engine sports car. These two unique scenarios mean GM is way behind on 2020 Corvette production at this time, but it seems as though the automaker will continue producing the vehicle until late in the year and fulfill more orders before pivoting to 2021 Corvette production.

There are more good signs for those with a 2020 model year Corvette on order, too. As The New York Times reported this week, GM’s aluminum casting plant in Bedford, Indiana has been running at limited capacity for the entire COVID-19 shutdown. The Bedford plant supplies critical aluminum chassis parts for the C8 Corvette. This could mean the Bowling Green Assembly plant will not experience as severe a parts shortage when it comes back online as it otherwise might have. It also serves a sign that GM has been trying its hardest to ensure 2020 Corvette production remains on track despite the pandemic.

It seems likely that GM will not be able to produce all 2020 model year Corvette C8 models that it had previously planned to, but at this point, it’s almost certain that more 2020 Corvette Stingray models will roll off the line at Bowling Green and that 2020 Corvette Convertible production will begin this year at some point.

  2. Production of the 2020 Chevrolet C8 Corvette has to be given top priority especially as the entire 2020 model year has sold out and General Motors has an obligation to keep all customers happy as it’s very unusual for General Motors to sell out an entire model year for any car.

  3. I love vehicles more than anybody, I miss not going to the Auto Shows, NHRA Drag Races, NASCAR, Car Meet and my job. Because of Trump and the Republican Puppets in office We have a major Health Crisis 33Million + people are out of work, over 1.2Million people have the Virus, only 5Million people have been tested, 75,000 people are dead in 6 weeks.. Now without being tested Trump wants everybody to play like everything is back to normal run out and buy stuff like nothing has happened. It’s a SAD day in America when people are more worried about how many Corvettes are being built or if they are still getting their order over the people who died or the untold number of those who will because of the Selfishness and Greed this Administration has displayed, the last thing Am concern with is how many 2020 Corvettes GM build this year
