The Turnin Rust Crew Works On A 1959 Chevrolet Apache Pickup: Video

If you’ve got a thing for rusty old trucks, then we’ve got a great video for you. Hitting the web courtesy of Lance and Wyatt from the Turnin Rust YouTube channel, this 35-minute video provides an extended look at what it takes to breathe new life into a 1959 Chevrolet Apache Fleetside pickup.

From the off, this Chevy looks pretty rough. The body panels are covered in oxidation, the bed is missing, and bits of the interior are barely hanging on for dear life. But that’s pretty much par for the course for this father-and-son team of vintage automotive headhunters. However, as we quickly learn, this Chevrolet Apache is also packing an LS engine under the hood, which means with a little love, the pickup might crank back up and be ready to drive.

After giving the truck a once-over, the Turnin Rust crew try to crank the engine, but can’t find the right key, so instead they decide to hot-wire it. After hooking up a starter box and turning the engine over, it sounds like the LS wants to fire off, but doesn’t quite make it.

The V8 sounds like its getting spark, but might not be getting the gas needed to light off. New fuel is added to the tank, but still no dice.

The next step is to hook up a new battery to see if a little extra juice might help. The LS definitely sounds like it’s close to firing off, but it still won’t go. The fuel pump is howling the whole time, so up next, it’s time to see if the pump is gummed-up.

The Turnin Rust crew continues working on the 1959 Chevrolet Apache’s LS V8, going through everything step by step to get it running again. It’s surprisingly calming to watch it all go down, with a thorough, methodical approach that comes to a satisfying conclusion.
