New Lawsuit Filed Over Cracked Wheels On C7 Corvette Grand Sport, Z06

In March of last year, a number of C7 Corvette Grand Sport and C7 Corvette Z06 owners filed a class-action lawsuit against General Motors claiming the factory wheels that came on their cars were prone to cracking. That class-action suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, with plaintiffs represented by Los Angeles-based firm Capstone Law.
Now, a separate class-action suit has been filed against GM for the exact same reason. This new suit, which was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, claims the 2015 and later C7 Corvette Z06 as well as the 2017 and later C7 Corvette Grand Sport were delivered with wheels “that are prone to bending and cracking, necessitating costly repairs and replacements.” The suit also claims that the defective wheels can puncture the tires, potentially leading to air leaks and tire blowouts. The lawsuit is filed on behalf of all United States citizens that purchased either the C7 Corvette Z06 or C7 Corvette Grand Sport new from GM.
Many C7 Corvette owners and fans will be familiar with this issue, as it is often talked about often in online car communities and forums and has even been brought to the attention of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Owners of affected vehicles say the wheels are prone to bending, warping, and may even crack in certain areas. As Corvette Blogger pointed out, Car and Driver even experienced this issue first-hand on a long-term 2017 Corvette Grand Sport test vehicle it had, replacing six wheels over the loaner car’s 40,000-mile test period.
This latest lawsuit, filed by Kehoe Law Firm, also says that “despite access to aggravate internal data, GM has actively concealed the existence of the defect, telling customers in online forums that the wheels are not defective and that the cracked wheels are caused by potholes.” This could be a reference to a post made by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter on Corvette Forum in 2017, in which he said the wheels may become bent due to a road hazard. This may lead to added stress on the rim as it rotates at high speed, forming cracks after “thousands or even millions of cycles.”
“Since it is hundreds or thousands of miles after the damaging event, the driver often can’t remember hitting anything that would justify a crack in the wheel,” Juechter also said in the post. “I have actually experienced this myself.”
Multiple GM Authority commenters reported experiencing this issue on their C7 Corvette Grand Sport and Corvette Z06 models when we first reported on this issue last spring.
GM Authority will follow this lawsuit as it progresses through the courts and provide continued updates for C7 Corvette Grand Sport and Z06 owners who may have experienced cracked or bent wheels on their cars.

I have 2017 Corvette grand sport convertible As of October 2020 I have driven for 16000 miles I have to change my rims three times. I even bought the insurance for rims and tires. And every time you come to a dealer they keep telling you that this is your problem. I hope the GM finally take responsibility for defective product
I’ve owned 5 Corvettes since I’ve had my drivers license. Never have I’ve seen or heard of the BULLSHIT GM is doing an saying about the wheels ! I mean never heard of the like! But here we go, back in the day when the leader of innovation an design that GM was! And who the competition followed , an CHINA was not stealing our jobs the parts were made here where there was quality control not thousands of miles away !!! A company that has made AMERICAN SPORTS CARS FOR OVER [ 60 ] YEARS IS PULLING THUS SHIT, an not owning up to the problem ?! I WOULD JUST LOVE TO SEE THE PROFIT AN MARGIN SHEET, NOT TAKE SOMEONES WORD THAT ISN’T ON THE BOARD!!
I FEEL CONSUMERS SHOULD HIT GM IN THE POCKET BOOK AN UNTIL THEY OWN UP TO THE PROBLEM AN QUIT BLAMING THE CONSUMER , THE CONSUMER SHOULD TAKE A STAND AN LET IT BE KNOWN WHAT THEY GM SHOULD DO SINCE THEY RUINED THE REPUTATION OF A 60 PLUS YEAR AMERICAN SPORT CAR ,ITS JUST A SHAME!!
I recently bought 2016 C7 Z06 convertible and after owning the car for 2 months I noticed my tire was low on air. I took it to the dealer to see what was wrong and they found a crack on the inside of my back driver rim. You could not find it unless you put it under water to see for leaks. The dealership would not do anything for me. How can I join this class action lawsuit. Now I am noticing my back passenger tire beginning to lose pressure over a few days. If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.
My name is Paul and my email is [email protected]
I have a 2017 Grand sport with 17,000 miles on it. Yesterday found out that my passenger rear wheel is cracked causing air to leak from the tire. I hardly drive this thing. It’s just a weekend toy and I’ve never hit a pothole. Very frustrating.
I have a 2016 Corvette ZO6 22000 miles all four wheels leak. I have had two of them welded. I get a vibration at 60 miles an hour anything over that it’s scary this is a shame
I have a 2019 grandsport barely 7k miles and i have 3 bent rims and 1 is cracked i lose air all the time on the cracked rear wheel and my car vibrates so bad when i drive it i need help with this issue
Aaron – Join the lawsuit. There must be hundreds more out there with the problem that haven’t heard of the class action suit. AF
I have a 2019 Z06 6,000 . I haven’t hit any thing ! Car not ridding smooth; took to dealer . All 4 rims are bent ! ?
Should be a recall on these defective rims !!
How do you join the lawsuit?
So far I have replaced my Drivers side wheel due to cracks. Now Passenger Rear has cracked twice. Four cracks which has left my alleged Race Car sitting useless on Jack Stands.
Where are we at on this GM = Ostrich
I want to join the lawsuit as I have the same issue with my 2016 Z06. Can someone please send me in the right direction?
The c7 rims in the zo6, and grand sports were not forged!!! GM went cheap on making a strong rim. I had a 2002 zo6 with 125k miles and 20 track times at Sebring… no wheel problems. I had a 2009 zo6 with 88k miles and 7 times at Sebring… no wheel problems. I have a 2016 zo6 with zo7 package with no track time… 2 bent rims on first tire change 5k and know one tire has 2 cracks and had to change the wheel. I still have a rim that is bent…. $115,000 vehicle with cheaply made rims… GM should pay for all 4 wheels to be replaced…
Join the lawsuit, Bob. Your case is a classic example of a welll-cared-for car with rims that can’t sustain a small amount of driving. By the way. It’s time to start collecting data on C8 Corvettes to see how many of the car’s rims are cracked or bent. This might provide a comparison. AF
How can i join that lawsuit ? 1000 miles on my 2019 grand sport and already a crack front rim
I just had one crack on a Cadillac CT6.
I remember back in the day people had high PRESTIGIOUS on owning a CORVETTE, BUT GM TOOK THAT AWAY!
WHAT A HORRIFIC MISTAKE! I had old real Corvettes the 50s an 60s never had any problems with them, but I wish I knew then what I know now ON WHAT GM IS DOING THE THE CORVETTE OWNERS TODAY I WOULD STILL HAVE MINE TODAY! My how when GM got your money in their bank account they don’t want anything to do with the Consumer! The only way I feel to get their attention is TO BOYCOTT BUYING A CORVETTE, THAT WOULD GET THEIR ATTENTION! I just hope SOMEONE DOESNT SERIOUSLY GET HURT FROM A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT GM GAS KNOWN ABOUT AN REFUSE TO OWN UP TO IT AN QUIT BLAMING THE CONSUMER THAT PUT TRUST IN GM!
Bob, I’ve had a few Corvettes in the last couple of decades, two C3s (one was a ’71 loaded big block that I found while brokering Corvettes online for a couple of years after I retired). I also have owned two C6s, a 2008 convertible and a 2012 GS convertible that I traded on this 2016 Z06.
Up until now, I’d been completely satisfied with my Corvetts, and I still love this Z06. I’m a life-long Chevy fan and I must say, this wheel issue will challenge my loyalty. I’m looking at some high quality, aftermarket racing forged wheels and they’re not all that much more expensive than the OEM rim I just had to purchase. I could probably sell these GM rims on eBay, but I wouldn’t want to dump them off on anyone else.
Changed the stock tires @ 13k miles on my 17 Grand Sport last week due to slow leaks. Chevrolet dealership said I had two bent wheels. Still leaking air to the tune of 15psi an hour while driving….. very disheartening and I baby this car…..
GRAND SPORT HAS A BIG CRACK RIGHT REAR WHEEL AND HAS ABOUT 12000 MILES TOOK TO GM DEALER SAID not cover buy a new one ! well I have 4 GM and son has 4 but we are in process of changing to ford !
grand sport has the cracked rim ! how do I join the law suit ?Had bent rim on my C6 and my
2018 grand sport cracked right rear wheel about 10000 or less ! took it to get fix get it back in 4 days ! the tech said one guy had been in over 6 times ! Also c6 no issues wit the wheels on it ! IN OTHER WORDS DON”T buy aC7 grand sport or Z06 till GM fix this wheel ISSUE ! buy more CHINA crap
Good luck. I’ve tried contacting the law firm several times, but their contact form doesn’t work, nor does the email address. I called and left a message a couple of weeks ago, and never got a return call.
