Nissan is prepping a new all-electric crossover dubbed the Nissan Ariya EV, dropping a concept version at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show last October. Now, new images of the production Ariya have appeared online, giving us a preview of the forthcoming electric offering. When it arrives, the Nissan Ariya will rival electric crossover SUVs such as the forthcoming Chevrolet Bolt EUV, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y. And to a certain extent, the Chevrolet Bolt EV as well.
The leaked images were posted to the Instagram account car_secrets, and reportedly show early renderings of the Nissan Ariya snagged from the Argentinean patent office.
The production Nissan Ariya looks to be very close to the concept version in terms of exterior styling. However, the renderings are slightly different, showing a profile without rearview mirrors and slightly reshaped bumpers. We also find new fog lamps and a shark fin antenna.
The new leaked images are for the exterior only, but it’s worth mentioning that the concept shown in 2019 came with several large digital screens spread across the dash, a setup that’s somewhat similar to that of the all-new 2021 Cadillac Escalade. The concept Nissan Ariya also has a futuristic look for the rest of the layout, including the center stack and center console, but we would not be surprised to see just the concept steering wheel and screen setup carry over for the production version.
The Nissan Ariya EV is tipped to offer both a dual-motor AWD powertrain, and a single-motor powertrain, with the dual-motor setup adopting technology from Nissan’s ATTESA E-TS torque split system found in its GT-R sports car and Patrol SUV. The crossover will reportedly sprint to 60 mph in less than five seconds and cover 300 miles between plug-ins.
Although the Nissan Ariya EV was originally expected to debut sometime in the middle of 2020, its reveal has likely been delayed as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Not sure why GM doesn’t have an EV CUV by now… seriously?
The question with Nissan will always be “Have they upgraded their battery management system?” If it’s not liquid cooled a lot of people in the US will not go for it.
It should stay in Japan as we in the U.S. don’t need it.
Hi Raymond
You may be right, that no one in the U.S. needs an Ariya, however I suspect that there may be many 10s of thousands who want it and for them it maybe the ideal car. As for me I’d rather have a G.M. product but maybe just a little bigger than a Datsun “er” I mean Nissan
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear talk about the Chevrolet Bolt EV is that I’m still waiting for General Motors CEO Mary Barra promise GM would have 5-7 new totally new EV vehicles and with the exception for the $200K Cadillac Celestiq, there hasn’t been much discussion of when Buick would bring their Enspire EV crossover concept vehicle to production.
