Surveillance video of the crime shows a black Buick LaCrosse park next to the Torch Red 2020 Corvette C8 before the rear passenger rolls down their window. A hooded figure then leans out the side of the Buick sedan and smashes the window of the Vette with an unknown object. As the window glass shatters and shards can be heard falling to the ground, the criminal leans out of the Buick and reaches into the sports car, presumably looking for cash or other valuables that may be stored in the center console or glove compartment.
Luckily, the 2020 Corvette C8 is equipped with a factory alarm, which goes off while the perp is rummaging through the vehicle. The thieves then panic and flee, having taken nothing from the target vehicle and causing over $5,000 in damage to it.
According to the original Facebook post and Corvette Blogger, this occurred near Bellaire Boulevard in the Chinatown neighborhood of Houston, Texas. The owner is now offering a $1,000 cash reward on the spot to anyone who identifies the perps, along with a $250 cash reward if the lead comes from an individual’s share of the video on Facebook or elsewhere on the web.
The Corvette in this video appears to be equipped with the optional Z51 performance package and also features the optional High Wing. As a reminder, the 2020 Corvette is equipped with a 6.2L LT2 V8 engine good for 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The only available transmission is an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.
