The results enabled the Escalade to edge out the Infiniti QX80 by only 22 units, which moved into second place with 5,598 deliveries, also for a 35 percent segment share, as well as the Lincoln Navigator (see Lincoln Navigator sales), which came in third place with 3,826 deliveries for a 24 percent segment share and 14 percent sales volume decrease. The Lexus LX came in last place with 846 deliveries for a 5 percent segment share and a 30 percent sales decrease.

Currently, the only full-size luxury crossovers are the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class and the new BMW X7, though Audi is rumored to be planning a future Q9.

The GM Authority Take
While the Escalade did outsell all of its direct rivals during Q1 2020, it did see sales slip during the quarter, which is likely a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as well as the UAW labor strike that took place last quarter. The latter curtailed production for a 40-day period, limiting inventories at the dealer level, and ultimately sapping sales volume during Q4 2019 and Q1 2020.
The circumstance allowed the Infiniti QX80 to nearly to surpass the Escalade in sales volume during the quarter. However, it’s worth noting that Infiniti’s parent company, Nissan, has substantially increased its business with daily rental firms, so it’s likely that a significant amount of QX80 sales went to rental fleets.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Navigator – the Escalade’s most direct competitor from crosstown rival, Ford – saw segment share stable at 24 percent. Given the uncertain economic climate caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s unclear how Escalade sales will fare during the next few months, though we can’t imagine them growing with GM production being idled across the Americas, including the GM Arlington plant that produces the Escalade in Texas.
Meanwhile, Cadillac is readying the all-new 2021 Escalade. Pre-orders will begin this Thursday, April 23rd. Once the all-new vehicle begins production and supply reaches optimal levels, we expect Escalade sales to increase substantially – though that prognosis also hinges on a healthy economy.

One has to think that the entire automobile industry suffered lower first quarter sales because of COVID-19 and this will continue through Q2 of 2020 with relief not coming until Q3 when things start to get back to usual.
What about the Range Rover? Other than Navigator I think that would be the most obvious cross-shopped vehicle to Escalade….I mean, judging by reality shows alone…
