2020 Silverado HD LTZ: Real World Gallery

The Chevrolet Silverado HD got a complete redesign for the 2020 model year, dropping in with an updated powertrain lineup, an all-new Allison 10-speed automatic transmission (which isn’t really an Allison transmission), updated trailering systems, and a brand-new look as well. Now, we’re taking a look at the 2020 Silverado HD out in the real world in the following GM Authority Gallery, focusing on the more luxurious LTZ trim level.

The 2020 Silverado 2500 HD LTZ is offered as the penultimate trim before the range-topping High Country trim level. Standout features for the 2020 Silverado HD LTZ include:

  • Chrome bumpers, door handles, and trim
  • EZ Lift tailgate
  • Autotrac transfer case
  • Keyless Open and Start
  • Power-adjustable, heated, and auto-dimming vertical trailering mirrors
  • Heated front leather seating
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control

This particular model is also equipped with the Z71 Off-Road Package, which adds Hill Descent Control, Off-Road suspension, and skid plates.

Although it comes with leather and several other high-end features, this machine can still get the job done. Buyers can spec theirs with either the 6.6L L8T V8 gas engine, which arrived as a new addition for the 2020 Silverado HD, or the proven 6.6L L5P V8 turbodiesel Duramax. Output from the L8T gasoline powerplant is rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, with the 6L90 six-speed automatic onboard for cog swaps. Meanwhile, the L5P diesel is rated at 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque, mating with the aforementioned 10-speed automatic.

And of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the 2020 Silverado HD’s brand-new styling. The most noteworthy changes are up front, where we find the 2020 model year brings a completely new fascia. Gone are the simple, rectangular shapes used in the 2019 model year, now replaced by thin upper lighting elements and angular lower lamps. The grille also gets a more intricate insert, while the lower bumper section is slimmer.

    1. The new trucks look awesome! Anyone saying different is jealous because they bought a ford or dodge or dare I say nissan or toyota. They saw the pictures before waiting to see the truck in person. And to the jackwing that says the only good looking vehicle is the vette you must be smoking to much of that legalized weed and fried your brain. Good job CHEVY!!! THE BOWTIE TRUCKS ARE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN!!!

  3. The front is still hideous. Can’t wait for a redesign. I test drove a 2020 LTZ diesel…..couldn’t get past the ugly front end. Bought a 2019 LTZ Diesel instead. The only good looking car left in Chevy’s lineup is the C8 vette.

  4. Whoever was involved in the redesign of the front fascia should be punched in the face and then fired. I have yet to hear ANYONE say, “that’s a really good looking truck.” Only the exact opposite. Chevy needs to hit the chalkboard for the 2021 model. This truck is so ugly, that it reminds me of Sloth that played on The Goonies movie. I opted to spend my 80k on a new 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD and not be embarrassed to be seen driving it.

I have yet to hear anyone say “that’s a really good looking truck.” In fact just the exact opposite. GM NEEDS to redesign this ASAP. Remember the movie The Goonies? The front end of this truck screams looks like Sloth. “Heeeey you guuuys!”

  10. Who the hell is designing this truck- must be a spy from Ford or Dodge, because that is one ugly Silverado. Come on guys, A real Chevy guy would never build something so fricken ugly. From that Hideous grill to the taillights, nothing matches, nothing flows. I’ve owned Silverados all my life but I can’t believe I’m going to print this but I’m thinking about a F-150 platinum.

  11. This is one UGLY truck! I don’t know what the designers at Chevy were thinking. The 2015 – 2019 Chevy heavy duties were such beautiful looking trucks in the front and then they come out with the 2020 oh my god. I am a diehard Chevy guy my whole life and have always owned Chevy trucks. I will not be buying another 2500HD until they completely redesign the front end. Not only is it Butt UGLY but it is also way too high in the front. Very poor vision over the corners of the hood.

  12. So many people are b!tching about how ugly the truck is (which I agree with), however has no one noticed the trucks massive size?! I’m 5′ 9″ and have to stretch to close the hood in work boots!

I couldn’t even imagine putting a ladder rack on this thing and having to load and unload ladders! Its hard enough on our 14 F250!

  13. My 2011 Silverado looks WAY better than the new front end. Very foolish move on the new design. I’m waiting for either a better design, or buying a used 19’ model. I don’t understand how someone would think the design looks good, IT’S HIDEOUS!
