The recent GM EV Day event was a treasure trove of fresh info on The General’s latest all-electric models, including the forthcoming GMC Hummer EV pickup. During the event, GM showed off the new BT1 platform, which will provide the underpinnings for the new Hummer EV. The platform included what appear to be air suspension components, indicating that the all-electric pickup will likely offer the feature as an available option.
The GMC Hummer EV pickup will be the first model based on the BT1 platform. Following the release of the new Hummer EV, BT1 will also be used on a new SUV variant of the Hummer EV, an all-electric version of the Cadillac Escalade, and a new all-electric Chevy pickup model as well.
Looking over the platform, we see a fully independent control-arm suspension with air springs. However, it’s likely this setup is for the top-trim GMC Hummer EV model, given the trio of electric motors on board. As such, it is possible the lower trims will offer a traditional steel spring suspension setup.
To note, the forthcoming EV will be offered with three different engine configurations, including single-motor, dual-motor and three-motor setups, each with different range-per-charge, performance, and price points. The top trim will produce upwards of 1,000 horsepower and sprint to 60 mph in three seconds. Range between plugs is expected to be as high as 400 miles.
The platform also reveals details like knobby BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM3 tires in the corners, which is a clear nod to the continuation of the Hummer nameplate’s off-road prowess with the new GMC Hummer EV.
The Hummer EV was officially announced in January. A full debut is expected by May 20th, 2020.

Is an all-electric Chevrolet Suburban EV under development with the Hummer EV and Escalade EV as well?
The fully independent suspension at all four corners and air ride reminds me of the original Hummer from AM General. Not saying it will be that capable, but the setup does draw out some similarities. With independent suspension, air ride, the battery tucked up into the frame, and 35- and 37-inch tires (supposedly a GMC rep said this), ground clearance should be great.
It’s called the Mary Barra suspension, air bag….
Now that’s funny…
This premium EV Hummer looks to be in the price range of $45000- $65000 USD and $55000 to $75000CAD it will be a very low to mid market at best item in the U.S. & And very low market sales item in Canada as a status vehicle in my view as a boy/gal toy only !
If this unit gets 400 miles or more to a charge I might consider on getting one. It wold be nice if it had a backup power when the battery goes low like the volt.
