GMC Hummer EV Will Use Three Windshield Wipers

We’re still chomping at the bit to learn as much as we can about the upcoming GMC Hummer EV pickup, and although we’ll have to wait until May 20th for the big official debut, we’re now piecing together a trove of details thanks to the recent GM EV Day event. The latest is the revelation that the electrified Hummer will sport no less than three windshield wipers.

While most vehicles make do with just two wipers, the GMC Hummer EV’s three-wiper setup certainly stands out from the crowd. Few vehicles go above the standard dual-wiper setup, with a few notable exceptions including the Morgan Roadster and Toyota FJ Cruiser.

To that point, both the Morgan Roadster and the Toyota FJ Cruiser come with a short, wide windscreen, hence the necessity of a three-wiper setup. As such, one would assume that the GMC Hummer EV will also come with a short, wide windscreen.

Styling for the upcoming electrified Hummer is expected to bear a resemblance to the previous Hummer H2 and H3 models, with tall-riding, boxy bodies and straight design lines. So far, we’ve seen little of the new EV pickups styling beyond a shadowy teaser image. However, as we’ve covered previously, we do know that the GMC Hummer EV will offer a removable targa top.

What’s more, we know that the GMC Hummer EV will be offered in both a pickup truck and SUV body style, with the former equipped with crew cab and short, five-foot bed.

The rest of the specs include upwards of 1,000 horsepower and a run to 60 mph in just three seconds when specced with the top-tier three-motor drivetrain. A dual-motor and single-motor setup will also be offered, while GM’s new BT1 electric vehicle platform will provide the bones. Max range-per-charge is expected to be rated at 400 miles.

  1. So another GM vehicle that people will complain about pill box visibility lol

    1. If you’re someone who’s complaining about visibility in a vehicle like this, then you shouldn’t be owning it. People bought the old Hummers exactly because they LIKED the vault feeling, not because they wanted 180 degrees of open glass. Either way, don’t expect visibility to be any worse than the old gas versions, which were perfectly fine for everyday driving, assuming if you had driving skills above a temporary permit holder. Not you specifically Andrew, but the buyers of the old Hummers.

  2. Three wipers are common on other GM vehicles. My 2009 Chevy Equinox has three: two on the windshield and one on the back window. And my 1975 Chevy Vega Kammback Wagon was the first to have three with a wiper on its back window.

    1. Quite sure you’re trolling…. But to make things clear for others they explicitly say “Three Windshield Wipers.”

Meaning three on the front window alone.

  3. What will this relaunch of the Hummer EV do the value of the gas Hummers ?

    1. Jack ’em up. Hummer prices are already going back up, when the name is back on the market (though as an EV), awareness will go back up, nostalgia will kick in, and because you can never get a gas Hummer again, demand will rise as supply slowly falls with each passing year. Grabbing any late-year Hummer with less than 100,000 miles is a great investment idea.

  4. Bring back the Avalanche not the Hummer! Mid gate what does the Hummer have to offer?

    1. Don’t rule out a midgate for the new Hummer EV SUT, it’s electric so a full pas-through is an even bigger and more feasible possibility on this than gas vehicles (see: Bollinger). And as far as the Avalanche goes, that name has nowhere NEAR the recognition Hummer does, so using it would be totally stupid and worthless. If they ever based a new Avalanche off the new Tahoe, now THERE you have me agreeing.
