The upcoming GMC Hummer EV is shaping up to be one very impressive machine, with upwards of 1,000 horsepower on tap, a 0-to-60 mph time as quick as 3 seconds dead, and, according to our sources, a conservative range-per-charge of roughly 400 miles. Now, we’re learning that the electron-powered pickup will also feature a removable targa top.
The news comes from the recent GM EV Day event, during which the automaker provided a ton of new info and insights with regard to its new all-electric products. Although photography was prohibited, media in attendance were still provided with a number of details on the forthcoming GM EV products, including the news that the GMC Hummer EV would come with a removable targa top.
GM will offer two body styles for the electrified Hummer, including a pickup truck variant and an SUV, with the pickup debuting ahead of the SUV model in terms of launch cadence. Both body styles will feature a removable targa top that will fit into the EV’s front trunk space when removed.
The extra headroom will be an interesting addition for the model, providing passengers with a solid dose of blue sky on demand.
Under the skin, the GMC Hummer EV will ride on GM’s new BT1 all-electric vehicle platform, and come with a tech-heavy interior featuring a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and 15-inch digital infotainment screen.
Power options will include single-, dual-, and three-motor setups, each with its own range, performance, and price points. The top-dog model will be the 1,000-horsepower, three-second-to-60-mph model already mentioned. We also know that the GMC Hummer EV will offer optional air suspension components.
Look for the battery-powered Hummer to make its big public debut on May 20th. Production will take place at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant in Michigan.

Cannot wait to see this product. It is a real pickup like the Silverado or is it like the Hummer H2 SUT of yesteryear.
@Momolos,
The vast majority of people who have seen both Hummers say they’re very much like the Hummer H3 and H3T, not the H2. Imagine both H3 versions, just more chiseled and modern. In that way, I guess its kind of a cross between the Silverado and H2. Sounds awesome to me.
Since it will be going after the Jeep crowd, the removable top makes perfect sense.
So. Excited. For. This!
I hope the removable Targa tops will be really easy to take off and store within the Cargo areas of the Hummer.
WASTE OF TIME couldn’t GM bring back Hummer with ICE? no let’s do a totally useless vehicle
