The GM Authority Take

GM Russia sales registered a healthy double-digit increase in January, when the two brands that the company offers in the country posting positive figures. In particular, the positive result was driven by the notable increase in Cadillac sales which – ironically – has become GM’s most popular brand in the Russian market. The healthy increase in Cadillac sales was caused by higher sales of the Cadillac Escalade.

Cadillac is the largest GM brand in Russia

For its part, the Chevrolet brand saw a slight uptick in sales volume in Russia thanks to better availability of the Camaro. Meanwhile, sales of the Tahoe and Traverse saw double-digit declines during the first month of the 2020 calendar year.

    1. GM left the mainstream vehicle segments in Russia (Sonic/Aveo, Cruze, Captiva, Orlando, etc.), while also ceasing local manufacturing at a brand new plant that took years to plan and build.

Now, GM is essentially a boutique automaker offering select models that can be sold at relatively high prices and high margins.
