The GM Authority Take
After 12 consecutive months of declines in sales volume, GM Mexico sales registered the first positive result in February. The automaker’s solid 19 percent increase in February coincides with the first increase in the Mexican automotive market in three years, breaking a streak of 34 consecutive months of contraction.
The positive February result in GM Mexico sales is primarily due to the positive performance of the Chevrolet brand. The increase was driven by several factors. First, the brand’s two high-volume models – the Aveo and Beat – saw healthy increases in their deliveries. Second, the all-new Onix registered its first month on sale. Third, the Silverado and Corvette both posted rather significant, triple-digit increases in sales volume.
Moreover, the GMC Sierra recorded the highest and most dramatic growth in recent history, posting a 503 percent increase in sales. As such, the pickup truck went from selling 39 units in February 2019 to 235 units in February 2020.
