The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Argentina sales decreased during February 2020, following a similar decrease in January and in the last few months of 2019. The slide is due to a systemic decrease in demand for automobiles in the South American country. However, the 21 percent contraction registered by the brand during February was better than the 32.2 percent average decrease in Argentine auto sales during the same timeframe.

Chevrolet Argentina sales were able to outperform the industry average thanks to significant increases in the deliveries of two models. The first was the Chevrolet Onix, which posted a solid 40 percent increase, leading it to become Argentina’s best-selling vehicle during February thanks to increased availability of the second-generation model. Meanwhile, the Cruze, the only Chevrolet model manufactured locally, became the brand’s second best-selling model, managing to increase its deliveries by almost 50 percent. Incidentally, GM discontinued the Cruze for North America.

In contrast, the remaining nine Chevrolet models sold in Argentina suffered double-digit declines in sales volume on a year-over-year basis.
